Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
I had seen my previous mechanic do that.also checked youtube videos,it showed sandpaper scrubbing.though I'm not a blind follower of youtube, but I thought cleaning the tip like that made it a bit more effective.Originally posted by abhijitkn View Post

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Sand paper will cause abrasion on the tip which in turn cause more problems. I have iridium tipped so generally I clean it with a cloth. Sand paper will not required since there will not be so much of deposition.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Compare the heat emitting from your engine with the heat being emitted from another FZ/Fazer. If you find that the heat is significantly different then only u have to give it a second thought.Originally posted by sivaram View PostI can feel the heat without even touching. Evening i unexpectedly touched the engine side and it was like a hot iron box. That was after riding just 2 kms
Im using the traditional yamalube and 7200kms on ODO
If so you can check your spark plug to see if your engine is running lean. A lean mixture causes excessive heat. Also have you fitted some sort of splash guard or soemthing like that behind the front wheel or in front of the engine?
Cheers!!Your pair of feet can tire you... Your pair of wheels can never tire you...

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
You are touching the engine in the wrong place. Try the black part of itOriginally posted by sivaram View PostAlso my fz's engine is overheating like anything. It gets so hot to touch with bare hands even after riding sanely for 3 minutes. Any possible issues? oil changed 1 month ago and i've run 700kms on it.
Ok when you look at your engine, You will notice a lot of fins, The same as on electronics that get hot.
These fins add surface area so the heat travels to the fins, air flows through the fins taking away some of the heat.
This is how the engine cools down.
If you had a liquid cooled engine then there will be a radiator. The engine will still be too hot to touch.
Keep the airflow to the cooling fins clear, this will allow the maximum airflow.2013 Ducati M795 with a few mods in here http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/superbik...95-owners.html

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
its the stock battry.....nd i am unable to check whether the battry water is low or not..i removed the side panel......i can see the level indicators on battery...but nothng is present inside it seems.....coz i moved the bike nd there was no signs of any liquid like movement......so i am guessing the battery water is almost nil.....i was able to see 2 red colored caps...so do i have to remove it and pour the water????Originally posted by devils_friend View PostThanks for the info.
For the battery, remove the battery, remove the small caps on the battery and fill it with battery water. Is it the stock battery or have you upgraded it?
Cheerz!!
do i have to necessarily remove the battery from the current position????

I guess there are four small caps on the upper face of the battery.Originally posted by vimal_hbk View Postits the stock battry.....nd i am unable to check whether the battry water is low or not..i removed the side panel......i can see the level indicators on battery...but nothng is present inside it seems.....coz i moved the bike nd there was no signs of any liquid like movement......so i am guessing the battery water is almost nil.....i was able to see 2 red colored caps...so do i have to remove it and pour the water????

Yes, you have to remove the battery to fill the water properly. If you dont want to do it, go to a battery shop and get it done from them.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
If you want to DIY, unplug the connections from the battery first, then take it out of the battery cage. Place the battery in a flat surface, then pull out the small red caps from the battery head, check for the water level, if found below the level indicator, pour it to the level with distilled water (5 litre of distilled water costs Rs.25) and do the fittings in reverse. Else, as devils_friend said, take it to the nearby battery shop, they will do the fill-up process. Also, ask them to fill-up the water level with acid water and charge the battery separately (Acid water fill-up = Rs.10, Charging separately with charger = Rs.15). And you're good to goOriginally posted by vimal_hbk View Postits the stock battry.....nd i am unable to check whether the battry water is low or not..i removed the side panel......i can see the level indicators on battery...but nothng is present inside it seems.....coz i moved the bike nd there was no signs of any liquid like movement......so i am guessing the battery water is almost nil.....i was able to see 2 red colored caps...so do i have to remove it and pour the water????

. Asked you to fill-up the battery with acid water, since you have mentioned that, the water level of your battery seems to be almost nil, elase only distilled water fill-up will do the job.

Hi Speedy, as abhijitkn said, it's really not recomended to clean the spark plug tips with sand paper or with any other hard devices, such as, in our local bike repair shop, people are used to clean the spark plug with torn-up clutch cable wire, which can also damage the spark plug tip. One more thing to ask you, my steed came with NGK spark plug, is it default with every FZ,Fazer series?Originally posted by SpeedyKol View PostI had seen my previous mechanic do that.also checked youtube videos,it showed sandpaper scrubbing.though I'm not a blind follower of youtube, but I thought cleaning the tip like that made it a bit more effective.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Changed the air-filter of my bike today (DIY). 10568 kms on ODO.
But noticed one thing that something oily like engine oil in the Air filter box, hardly two-three drops to be precise. Is anything wrong?
The engine oil (Motul 5100 SS oil) is only 1650 kms old.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Looks like rains are troubling my bike. My headlamp has become slightly foggy. Can anything be done to remove it or to prevent it from happening more?
Also, how can the chain slackness be fixed. Looks like, my chain is to loose, jumps a lot
done 9.5k on odo.

If you know google, you could have got the answer, that too in Xbhp. This question has been asked many times before. Oil in airfilter box-fz

Why you are so much worried about the slightly foggy glass? Don't worry
Even then, if you want to keep it clean, buy few silica gel packets & keep inside the headlight.
For chain slack correction refer manual or search this forum.

It's pretty easy. But make sure alongwith battery water you have petroleum jelly with you to apply on electrodes. Also do not forget to attach the overflow pipe back to the battery.Last edited by abhijitkn; 06-21-2013, 12:43 AM.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Guys my rear Tyre pressure is losing very rapidly....around 12-15 psi in 3 days. Really pissed off with it.
Have checked for punctures and rim bend. everything is fine and also installed puncture sealant in rear Tyre but pressure is losing very rapidly. Can anyone help??? filling air is much harder than filling petrol at pumps
Biker is not recognised by its byk but love for his byk

have you checked the pin..? Sometimes air leaks from there also..Originally posted by Kavit View PostGuys my rear Tyre pressure is losing very rapidly....around 12-15 psi in 3 days. Really pissed off with it.

apart for that, all the problem makers have been checked by you..
if nothing seems to found, go to the nearest mrf station and ask the guys there for solution..
you can also check the tyre alignment with the rim, by checking arrow markings.. They should be parallel to the rim and in the direction of wheel motion..
air also leaks out when they are out of sync..
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
hi friends im a proud owner of a new fazer streak red...this is my 2nd fazer since 2009...one thing i was thinking about is the rear tail fender which has been extended vertically as well as horizontally but i have seen that it can be dettached quite easily but i dont want to make my pillion get angry due to mud or water spillage and as well i dont want to spoil my bike...So i thought how it would look if i went for something like rear tyre hugger or mudcover like on pulsar 200ns or ktm duke200 which will allow me to protect my bike n pillion even if i do away with the rear extended fender...posting few pics of duke n 200ns to give an idea of exactly what im trying to say...please guide me...

It would be very inconvenient to check this physically..
first use photoshop or simply ms-paint and put the tyre hugger on the fz.. if it looks good to you, then its upto you..
