Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Thanks. I have tightened the chain. But, i guess it wont last too long now. The chain is normal one or with a link lock?Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Postyea, change the full set after every 12k kms.. why take chances
the stock yamaha parts are very reliable.. go with the yamaha chain set (in my opinion) it would cost the same..
Cheerz!!
Thanks. The Yamaha is Rolon os Diamond? 1265+taxes i suppose?Originally posted by chaosaddict View PostDunno the name but I paid more or less the same price while changing mine (Yamaha Genuine spare parts).

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
12k kms?? Isn't that too less?? A well maintained chain-set should last more than that. I'm expecting 20k kms.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Postyea, change the full set after every 12k kms..
The chain-set on my friends honda twister lasted 13k km. And this one was with zero (and I mean 0
) maintenance. He never ever oiled the chain. most of the time it was as dry as the handle-bar
. Still it lasted that long. So shouldn't a well maintained one last longer??

i don't clearly know the chain type..Originally posted by devils_friend View PostThanks. I have tightened the chain. But, i guess it wont last too long now. The chain is normal one or with a link lock?
Cheerz!!
but if you are facing problems, now would be the time to change it..
i have seen a guys making it way through the traffic and its chain just broke.. also damaged the sprockets.. leave alone the pain of taking the bike to a mechanic after that..

when i went ot the SVC for my service around 12k.. they asked me to get the set changed as the sprockets have started to loose their edges.. i went ahead.. didn't see how much damaged they were.. i don't want to make my bike a pain by breaking on the road..Originally posted by arijitmaniac View Post12k kms?? also i think its given in the manual to get the chain set and some other parts to be changed after every 12k kms..

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
I doubt if this can be true. A chain starts rusting, the moment it is exposed to some water agent. Also, the chain depends on riding style. Sudden throttling and braking results in more chain related issue.Originally posted by arijitmaniac View Post12k kms?? Isn't that too less?? A well maintained chain-set should last more than that. I guess, 20k is way too long for it to survive (my view).

Yes, will observe for next 200kms how does the chain behave. The sprockets looks absolutely fine, the chain has too much of slackOriginally posted by nadz11.ns View Posti don't clearly know the chain type..

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
It won't last long. IIRC you'll see overall drop in performance of your bike - better to change ASAP.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostThanks. I have tightened the chain. But, i guess it wont last too long now. The chain is normal one or with a link lock?

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
earlier i have seen the mechanics remove one link from the chain to cope for the slackness.. but that is not recommended for our bikes as it heightens the risk factor..Originally posted by devils_friend View PostYes, will observe for next 200kms how does the chain behave. Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Well, to be honest. I haven't seen any significance drop in mileage or so. The only thing that is affected is the pick-up. But, after tightening the chain, its back to normal. Will surely change the set coming monday, will be giving the bike for servicing.Originally posted by chaosaddict View PostIt won't last long. The chain has to replaced completely along with the sprocket set (as told by the mechanic).
Cheerz!!
Removing one one or more link will affect the strength factor of the chain. Infact, it will add more load on the chain and might go kaput.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View Postearlier i have seen the mechanics remove one link from the chain to cope for the slackness.. but that is not recommended for our bikes as it heightens the risk factor..

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
hi,
My chain drive is through 28k and till now no issue,i suggest if lubrication and cleaning is done regularly the chain life will extend till 35/40000 kms.
Lubricate your chain regularly, there are many options available--kluber OKS is good one to go with,,,never lubricate your chain set without cleaning, before applying any lubricator use cleanising agent--kerosene/petrol can also be used..

Re: Selling my Yamaha FZ16
Query Approved and MergedOriginally posted by Ananth_1992_ View PostHello Everyone,
I am leaving the country this September and i want to sell my yamaha fz16. I dont have much knowledge about bikes so i am posting here to get a knowledge of how much my bike is worth(for the sole purpose of me not getting swindled). I bought my bike on 26th feb 2011. She is 2.5 years old now and has clocked 11k on the odo. Never been in an accident/fall and there are no scratches on the bike. I handled the bike very carefully and i never rev beyond 5k so the bke must have a decent milage(nevr bothered to check it) It is a stock with no aftermarket modifications. The buying price was 77k with insurance. How much will i get for my bike now?Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Re: Selling my Yamaha FZ16
^^ @Ananth_1992 I would say nothing less than 50k, given the condition you described (I think fz is at least blessed with resale value
)

Re: Selling my Yamaha FZ16
Hi Guys,
Query to be answered. I recently serviced my bike at Excellent Yamaha,
ODO: 29500 Kms
Changed the Chain set, Spark Plug and Clutch and Acce. cables.
Also asked them to check the Oil Seal for the Front suspensions; upon inspection he told me that both steel Rods had to be changed. I got them changed @ around 1150 per rod.
Question is.. are the suspension steel rods under warranty ?
My bike would complete 2 years in Oct '13..
Thanks

You can start from that range!!Originally posted by Ananth_1992_ View Posthey thanks for the reply. I was hoping to get around the 55-60k range. should i put it up for sale locally or on the internet?is there any decent/reliable website to do that?
Try teambhp, xBhp classifieds & of course do not miss OLX, Quickr etc.... you can expect a lot of calls very soon.
