Petrol is coming with 5% Ethanol from December.. you need just nothing now as a fuel system cleaner from now onwards. Just wish that the rubber tubing and other gasket material remains intact.. it will dissolve just everything overtime.Originally posted by juniorbiker403 View Post

(irritates me a lot).... nd they just fiddles with the throttle......will it cause the petrol to flow into the chamber and thus wasting it? leave the kids even if a person say me throttles a turned off bike will it cause the petrol to flow thereby wasting it? is it necessary to turn the knob off always?

Opening the throttle like that might cause the petrol to overflow into the carb, but there in the carb we have an bowl that is there to handle that fuel. Not sure if it will discard the petrol via the overflow tube.
I hope someone with better knowledge can give a more consistent reply.

This phenomenon worked for old bikes. These days once the carb reservoir is filled there will be no overflow until there is any suction of petrol from the engine or there is a fault in the float pin. another question......while descending from ghats like matheran / lonavla and i usually dnt accelerate....i put it in neutral and let the bike freely move....but when i reach down i directly engage 2nd gear bcoz the speed at that time is usually higher that for 1st gear.....will this cause any problem to the engine???.....it gives some jerk when i do so.....Last edited by vimal_hbk; 12-28-2012, 12:40 PM.

If you neutral your gears and ride down slope then bike will move more fast then in normal gears with no accelerator. INMO don't practice this. Secondly don't press the clutch and ride the bike on slopes this take up the life of clutch plates!

Read few posts by members here on xbhp that if we keep the clutch lever pressed and bike is in motion with gears then it effects the clutch plates by clutch gets ruined more before then it's normal durations of periods.Originally posted by Shibadip View PostPLease explain the reason behind this..
Same I had discussed with the the Bajaj and Yamaha SVC too before, even those mech said yes we should not ride with clutch lever press with bike in gear and motion. (Something clutch ghista hai motor k against)

But, would they keep the throttle wide open, nothing would normally happen since the float inside the carb. will shut of the fuel arrival by the little pin that closes it.
However, another danger exists independently from kids or parking keepers playing with the throttle: it is that this pin does not close properly and that fuel overflows and drips on the ground. Then, it is not the "wastage" of this minute quantity of fuel (you guys are really obsessed about fuel, mileage and all!!!) but the much more costly fire risk!! Just needs one to throw a cigarette butt (and in Vietnam they smoke like locomotives and throw their cigarette butts everywhere!) and gone is your bike....together with a few others, cars, houses....all of which you could be held responsible!
Has happened once with my bike, recently, that there was such leakage. Gave me the creeps!
Just close the fuel supply, OK?When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

I would say use clutch only for changing gears. Yes there is a adverse effect on clutch when you ride your bike by pressing clutch lever. Just do one thing to verify that, With ignition off put up your bike on main stand & shift to neutral. Now try to rotate your rear wheel using your hand & see how freely the wheel rotates. Next, shift your bike to 1st or 2nd gear & press the clutch lever & try to rotate the rear wheel, the wheel will rotate but not as freely as it use to rotate in neutral. This is because of resistance due to clutch. This is the best practical explaination I can give to you. One more point about clutch riding is that it increases fuel consumption. For riding down the slopes/hills you can definately use engine braking & ride in lower gears. In general, i dont drive or ride with my Hands/Foot on the clutch. But I do have a habit of fully pressing the clucth, when I have to brake say from 60+ to a <15+ kmph speeds.
And after coming to the desired speeds only then i do change to appropriate Gears.
So reading the above, this might also prove to be bad for the clutch!!sigpicRelationships change, evolve, and it goes deep.

KrishnaThrottle has no impact when engines dead.
