Not sure. Useful in rainy season but not a must have, unless you do not want to clean the chain often.Originally posted by segagt_0 View PostThanks for the reply guys. One more question, how much more effective is the new chain cover compared to the older one? Is it worth an upgrade?

Thanks Deville.. Your tip worked!! The fuel sensor is back online. Also i got the fuel stop cork replaced then the fake one which i had to earlier install in an emergency. The root cause of the problem was that the older cork and the fake one, the screws holding the whole unit connecting to the tank had become lose may be due to harmonics or vibes. As a result, the carb was drawing in more air and very less pressure was being formed to suck in the fuel. Thus, the engine was starving of fuel and she then decided to stop. A lot of fuel was slowly leaking throughout the night from the joint where the stop cork unit connects to the fuel tank. I had lost near about a ltr by the time the whole issue got sorted out. So i guess in a way i am thankful to my FZ-X that she didn't allow me to take her for a spin or else it could have been a major fire hazard..Originally posted by deville_56 View PostUnplug and replug the green connector under tank. I had the same issue when they removed tank for fuel tap replacement.
The older stop cork indeed was choked but my bike would have been still functional. After inspection it was concluded by the SVC Head that the carburetor, jets and the inner workings of the Carburetor are in pristine condition. I guess System G treatment and ensuring that i don't run her on reserve ever have kept the inner workings free of gum and dirt.
Below are the images of the old and new Fuel stop cork. As per my discussion with the SVC Head, the newer stop cork does have a fuel filter but it is much smaller compared to the older model.

Checked with SVC they say the bore piston has to be replaced and engine valve seating is to be done estimated cost is around 6k with labour included.Originally posted by Mizt View PostGave the bike to svc to my suprise the yamaha technical staff who read my mail was there.
He accidentally noted my name in the service card ,then the attitude of svc guy changed. The service guy told too many complications in the engine. As i had a small chat with technical staffs i got thier nos and discussed if the warranty will be covered if any replacements necesary. He replied it would if I had done all the services and the bike is within warantty period. The downside it will take 3 days for the service and i will be out of home town until 31. I hope the bike will be in prestine condition when I get back home..
I asked them why are these not covered in engine warantty they only engine shaft and gears are covered under warantty
Please help me guys, are the SVC guys trying to rob me
. The bike is been with them atleast for a week now..

Abhijit has already answered your query. I do most of my purchases from South Mumbai. All these automobile shops have been running since, generations and they usually don't cheat people.Originally posted by vimal_hbk View Postthanks buddy.....when i searched it gave me multiple avantikabai gokhale road.... :P
I don't have an idea about such shops in Central location. But may be Sion, Mumbai and car centric markets in central Mumbai.. That should give you good results.

What's system 23/g. I've never heard of that before.
I still haven't got around to buying new tyres for my bike. For the front I'm sticking with the stock. For the rear I was thinking about going in for a pirelli or Dunlop. I loved the handling and the grip of the stock rear, the only thing that's making me contemplate about going in for it again is the fact that it developed so many cracks so easily. I have my concerns about pirelli too, I mean I know their great tyres but they're a softer compound which means they'll wear out faster which I don't want.

How long have you been using the stock rear?? how many kms on the ODO. Since both of us live in Mumbai, understand this the coastal weather will eat into anything even rubber. The life of the tires are so short here and it starts to harden and crack regardless of how you use, 2 years is the max life i have been able to extract. PSD's unfortunately are only coming with the spec of 130-70-17 as of now in Mumbai market. I wanted to try out Tuffgrip but it was out of stock or IIRC but then again it was darn expensive. For me stock tire is good enough. I would recommend you should shift to a new pair soon. The handling has improved drastically. If stock MRFs have served you well then i would recommend that you can try a new pair. PSDs surprisingly rider Devillle has crossed over 19000 kms on his rear tire without a single puncture and the tires have still not got bald.
All my major expenses are now going towards the transformation with the heart transplant of my FZ to FZ-X courtesy RC power up Kits so I am slowly turning into a miser.
As per my experience there is no point of dragging tires beyond a certain point. The moment the tire side walls start becoming weak coz of usage and natural degradation and hardening of the rubber, it directly affects braking, grip and handling abilities of the bike. Trust me i am seeing a drastic transformation in my bike post tire change. She now loves the corners even more
. The old tire was slowly starting to slip on hard cornering.
I would recommend System G/23 every 5000-7000 kms keeps the engine, fuel lines and carb clean. Doesn't cost much kms wise. The fuel quality is crap the moment you go outside Mumbai. It is basically a petroleum detergent which gets rid of dirt and gum formation inside the tank and the fuel lines and keeps the internal healthy. I am more then confident that it is not a snake oil as yesterday's inspection revealed that the engine, carb and the fuel lines are in pristine condition. So highly recommend it.

Yeah it seems like I've pulled the life of my tyres for way too long. They're as old as my bike - one month shy of 4 years. I know, too long. But they really have serve ld me well, all 34,000 kms. One major complaint I forgot to mention besides the cracks that came quite long ago, they're not there because I've used the tyres for so long is that this one month a long time ago I had really bad luck with punctures. Would you believe 8 punctures in the rear tyre in that one month? I just couldn't figure it out. I assume the rim was slightly bent and letting air leak out which made it even more prone to punctures. Once I put in a pair of tubes in both tyres, I've had literally like one puncture in the last year and a half. That's another thing I'll have to get checked while putting in the new tyres. Whether or not the rim is actually bent and if it can be straightened. I wouldn't put my money on straightening it. I'm sure it will still leak air. Don't want to make any "trial and error" moves now because the bike needs to be ready for my next Goa ride coming up in Feb.
Which shop in South Mumbai did you get your tyres from? I checked at the shops near Alibhai Premjis a few months ago. And will I get the latest system 23 solution from there? You're description really got me intrigued. Definitely going to get my self a bottle. Maybe use it after the Goa ride.
PS: I can't wait to get back that feeling I used to have whole taking corners
Now I don't feel confident enough.
