Any other factor I should consider that will affect the bikes performance in mileage and is it ok to rev upto 4k RPM or 65+ KM/HR speed at times or does this affect before the 1st service. I have been advised to maintain below the speed 60KM/HR in first month and/or upto 1000KM.

What exactly are you asking about the engine kill switch position? Sorry, quiet didn't get it.
To start up the bike, it requires an initial investment of fuel worth about 30 seconds of idling. So if u r (for instance) at a red light and the light is gonna b red for less than 30 seconds, and u switch the engine off, u r actually wasting some fuel. But thats really very negligible compared to the change in FE that u feel should be there. It has no effect whatsoever on performance.

What I wrote was in context to another discussion about the kill switch.. read a few of the earlier posts by me for context.
@Kinshuk: Ok.. i do the same thing

EDIT: There's something going on with the console .. A bunch of bars going from 5.5 to 7 k RPM and the ones going from 8-9k RPM are missing on the tacho, in the speedo - only the last digit is visible, the rest have switched off.. the ODO/TRIP text and a few digits on that meter are also missing. Can this geet rectified or do I have to change out the whole unit? What would be the cost of change / repair? This happened gradually (first the tacho bars were missing, then the speedo digits then the rest.

I suggest you to immediately report this to the Yam SVC guys. I think your digital console is in trouble. It may be also due to faulty electricals.

You will have to change the whole unit and that means loosing your ODO too.
but the speedo has a 3 year warranty and your SVC will replace it for you for free, don't worry!

          • My Black & Green Panther

Hello Friends, I own a Black & Green FZ-S. Bought it on 07/07/10. Done with the 2nd servicing and the bike runs butter smooth now...
Initially I had some problems like, mis-firing and the engine used to stop if I apply brakes. When discussed about the same with the mechanic in Pacer Yamaha(B'lore) he said that this is a regular issue and will be all fine once the vehicle has clocked 1000 Kms. i was however a bit upset about this.
It happened once that I had to cross a road and the bike's engine stopped in the middle of the road!!!!
Just imagine, fast moving traffic and i am stuck in the middle, that was a havoc. Anyways later called the Yamaha Service Manager(B'lore) explained to him about this problem, a very nice guy helped me a lot and also assured that I can call him anytime if any further assistance is required. The next time I was in Pacer I called the manager and handed over the phone to the mechanic. They discussed something and later the mechanic did some tuning maybe, the problem was then resolved. He however warned me that the mileage may get affected. Honestly speaking I ride at the speed of 55-65 Kmph and I am getting mileage of 40-42 Kmpl. I haven't ripped it much as I want go exactly as the User's Manual says. I have done only 1070 Kms so far in 3 1/2 months
I am very happy with Pacer's service, they are very friendly and make sure that every issue is looked into..
Yesterday got the 2nd servicing done and also got my baby Teflon coated. She looks beautiful now All Bling Bling. Got a Yamaha FZ's Tank Pad/Guard, looks grand now. I am infact very happy with my bike.
            Thumbs up for :-
Looks; (People always give a second look, feel like going slow and let people enjoy)
Road Presence; (Big tires more rubber to grab more of road)
Braking; (Brought it down to 0 from 55 on a wet road with no skidding)
Ride Comfort; (No wrist pains, no back aches perfect for touring as well) Power; (Initial Pick up is just awesome feels good at high speed too) Maneuverability ( Get a hang of it and you can ride it like Hero Ranger Bike- good old school days, Ranger bike were all time favorite)
            Thumbs Down for :-
Mileage; (In fact FZ rider should not worry about mileage-As you do not ask a girl's age you shouldn't ask FZ's mileage)
Pillion Seat; (Meant only for the chics in jeans/no saree allowed if you want a ride)
This is more or Less about my experience with my FZ-S.
Friends, I need your help regarding this-
Yesterday the mechanic at Pacer Yamaha told me some thing about CC upgrade. He says Yamaha has come with a new upgrade option where you can upgrade your 153 CC machine to 180 CC. This process also boosts up the power to 17 BHP from 14 BHP. He says this will cost somewhere around Rs. 11000 and will be 100% street legal. Best part is the mileage will not get affected
Just wanted to know from FZ Gurus, do you think this is advisable and is this a company set price(11K) or are they just charging me more??
If any XBHPian has done this upgrade can you please give some info about this.
            Thanks & Regards

wonder if he was referring to the Racing Kit.
Anyway ask him for more specific details and post here

OH! Phew man! Thats a load off my chest.. thanks!
EDIT: Just remembered, I missed a couple of services. Now would it be replaced for free?

@FuzzyLogic: Dude.. 11k for reboring the engine is just not worth it.. u will be f**king up every kind of warranty that u have right now and the thing might not be done correctly. Honestly, do u think u can get 3 extra horses for the loss of no mileage? And if he is thinking about putting in a P180 / RTR180 engine so that the mileage remains similar, I personally feel it would be a very very silly thing to do.. should hav just bought a p180 / rtr180 instead :-/

I would suggest stay away from this mod.. but thats just my personal opinion.
All the best with whatever u decide to do.

yes it would be replaced for free but you might have to give them a tough time to get it replaced....

about the mod.. for reboring i think they should be changing the carb to a bigger one and the air filter to K&N(might be)....

and if it is being done by the svc itself i dont think it will void the warranty..

                          in my view
if you are switching of the engine in the middle of the ride and with accelrator it would lead to a wastage of the fuel which has already been pumped in by the carb.... but if you are standing still without any accelerator it shouldnt affect the mileage...

yeah I agree with you. In the owner manual itself it is said that don't use switch when bike is in motion.

                              • got my first service done today.. The NightFury (my black Fazer) feels much more smoother now, will report any change in the mileage in a few days..

I still have questions about the gear shift pattern, whats the ideal RPMs to shift gears to get the best performance in speed and acceleration..

the other day, a unicorn had beaten me on the road while I was running at almost 97kmph, i think i might have caught him back if i wud've went full throttle, but at that speed I felt the engine was stressing out so, I let him pass on..
