This is unbelievable man! I can only blame it on the lack of proper training.

I visit shell only for re-fuelling. If you want the oil changed in front of you, choose a competent mechanic.

Now, if you are going to have the bike parked for two days and the oil is already leaking, won't you lose a lot of oil. How will you ride back ?

Don't even start your bike without the proper oil levels.

Do this - take your bike to a local mec, if oil is low, push it!

Remove the bolt and drain the oil. No choice.

Get some plumbing thread (white one) from a hardware store and wrap around the threads on your bolt. You can also use electric wire strands.

This will make the bolt slightly thicker. Now fit it back in. If you feel it's not tight enough, add more thread/wire.

Don't add too much though, as you tighten, it will form a fat layer near the head of the bolt.

Get the cheapest oil that is genuine which you can find and fill it.

Keep monitoring your oil levels and go to Yamaha ASC only. They may replace the thread insert.

Keep this thread updated on what happens!

Well, today I see that the oil is still leaking but, at a slower rate as the engine oil has cooled down. For now, I have kept an empty bottle under the leaking area, I am planning to re-fill that leaked out oil back when I go to showroom tomorrow, (is it a bad idea ? Should I be using only new oil again ? )

As for that bolt, Those SHELL guys itself had done that part, But for some reason, I don't see that it's good enough and the oil is still leaking.

I would say that i would any day prefer the servicing of my bike including a plain oil change to be done at the svc then these bike zones... coz if anything goes wrong i can always catch someone's throat or worse call up backend office and can atleast expect some response to happen.

anyways, i would say just simply pick up one motul/yamalube 20W-40 mineral oil.. (won't cost more than 250-270 bucks!!) and fill her up till you reach the svc and then get the issue sorted out there.. i am not comfortable with the idea of putting leaking oil back in the engine as the oil might have accumulated some dust or grime which may affect the engine badly.

                I agree with this ...

Small things can be DIY provided you know how to do it thoroughly , I mean no experimenting with the bike . But I learnt it the hard way .

I just got to know that in the hard way possible. I just wanted a good semi synthetic oil for my bike, When I checked the pricing the SHELL one seemed better, hence went for it. But from now onward, will only do servicing of my bike done in only SVC

I did not get a chance to buy a new oil. But, I did check my oil levels now, it's still midway between the MAX and MIN levels. SVC place is 4kms from my place. I think it's better I go to the SVC place morrow with the oil I have got in the bike instead of putting back the leaking oil.

Yes, Even I learnt it now in the hard way, Won't let any one repair my bike other than the SVC guys.

Its probably because he mis-alligned it than over tightening.

                      • Joel's big bore= ???

                        Hi,

Could those who have had this famous "big bore" kit tell me what it includes? I have looked at Joel's website, but it does not give any detail. All what I know is that the capacity grows from 153 to 180 cc, with the same crankshaft, meaning a 5mm. larger bore.

AFAIK, since 5mm. is not negligible, this kit should also include a cylinder head with re-worked compression chamber, larger valves (and normally new valve springs) and enlarged intake and exhaust gas passages, this corresponding to the larger carb. (extra) and enlarged exhaust system (extra too). Eventually, the camshaft profile could have been altered?...

So: what does the kit include: piston, piston rings and re-bored cylinder only, or cylinder head too???

I understand that Joel is quite busy to answer to questions at the moment, so thanks for your replies.
When I do something stupid, my consolation is to know that I'll do the worse one only once!

                          - A warm engine will always feel so. The oil would have reached every nook and corner possible and compression also would have reached the ideal state. I can't explain technically, Sorry.

                          - I believe it is because most of us are right handed and can distribute the weight that way. I too have had the same feeling.

Have you also noticed that, we always hop on the bike and also push the bike from left.

Try pushing the bike from right and see how uncomfortable you feel

There is a good amount of oil traces on the rod and the mechanic at SVC has also confirmed the same. Its just that, they do not have new ones in stock to replace.

Im trying to be as cautious as I can, but I dont think it can survive the bad roads of mumbai.. I wish I can get if fixed soon.. what other parts of the bike can go bad due to the leaking oil seals.. ?

For the cornering thing, it must be about being right handed.. that makes sense.. thanks.

Thought I'll share my horrible experience here.
Today I had been to shell petrol bunk (Whitefield road, Bangalore )to put Shell Advance engine oil. Everything was going, the oil was drained properly. But then the mechanic said the bolt is not sitting back properly. It was because that guy had over-tightened it, because of which the threading on the engine side of the oil tank had gone off, and the bolt is not sitting tight any more.
Initially the SHELL guys said they will repair my bike, But when I inquired the showroom guys, they said it will take at least one full day to repair the threading. SHELL guys stance began to change and the after some time of frustration, I decided I'll file a complaint against shell for damaging my bike.

After I showed signs of lodging a complaint, they said they'll pay for my bike repair. But, They weren't ready to give me any written guarantee for the same. But after persistent request, they paid 700 rs now, and they said they'll pay the remaining after receiving the bill from showroom. I decided not to file a complaint for now.

Having somehow come to an agreement, the SHELL guys put some thread tape and fitted the bolt. Put back the engine oil and then I was off to the showroom. Once I reached the showroom (PANACHE, Indiranagar) I see that engine oil is started to leak. When I talked to those SVC guys, they said they were full and not ready to keep my bike for the weekend and I need to come back on Monday. Since the engine oil was leaking, they gave me an empty can and told me to keep under the leaking oil once I reach home. I will have to refill the oil on Monday and go back to the showroom.

This has been a very horrible experience so far, Just hoping that everything will go well on Monday.

Can anyone tell me if I have done enough on this ? Should I be doing anything else now ? For the bike maintenance or to address the SHELL guys ?

Guys, got a call from the showroom, they told me that they have temporarily stopped the oil leak using some metal plates (don't know what it means). He said the repair will take at least 2 -3 days and 1K rs. Since it's festive season, he's asking me to come back after a week. Going to collect my bike. Feeling absolutely gutted 1 year I rode my bike without any problems and now so much troubles.

But I will bug him a lot tomorrow since it is a holiday and I will have no other work. I am waiting for him or someone to update. Plz let me know if you get any info. Been a month since ordering. He must be really busy and labor problems I think.
