Go for the butterfly or the U shaped one. I got the single bar crash fixed from Panache, M'halli. It's no good, comes loose if it brushes against something. It even hits the front mudguard when the bike goes over humps. Don't know if it has been fixed improperly, just don't go to Panache, M'halli. Try some other place.Originally posted by Duoscribe View Post

Hi All,
did my bike's 5th servicing today... although my bike has not done any kms on the odo for the last 3 months since, i had left for a project in North East, i still had to get the 5th service done as it was due today. In a way it was a complete waste of money as the engine oil replaced was still in pristine condition and i had barely done 450-500 kms since the last oil change!!
I am least bothered about the 2 years warranty nonsense from Yamaha as it is simply a marketing gimmick. I just want to maintain a perfect service record
.
Got the spark plug checked also... it looks as good as a new one!! No Sulphur or carbon deposition on the electrodes.. even the svc guys were surprised when they saw it!! i usually clock minimum 1200-1500 kms per month so this condition of the spark plug is something that i am quite happy to witness!! i believe it should easily last 15000+ kms
Anyways here are the details:
Odo: 9442 kms (i had made a mistake earlier and posted about 10k kms completion, my bike has not completed its 10,000 kms yet!!)
Charges:
1) Engine Oil: Motul Mineral oil 20W X 40= 250 Bucks (They have suddenly increased it from 235 bucks!)
2) Oil Filter: 50 Bucks (The price has come down from earlier 65 bucks!!)
3) Motul Chain Lube: bought it separately 480 bucks from the SVC (May be available cheaper outside!!.. didn't want to roam around getting drenched during Peak Monsoon weather of Mumbai!!)
Any Problems:
1) Accelerator cable getting stuck: The accelerator used to get stuck sometimes..So just asked the svc guys to simply overhaul it. Now no problem.
2) Battery: the water level had gone down drastically!! Got it filled up to the acceptable level.. My personal opinion: stock MINDA & AMCO batteries SUCK BIG TIME!! I intend change it to Exide or Amaron battery whenever the stock one dies. the last i heard, Bosch no longer makes batteries for bikes in India otherwise i would have loved to go for it in future.
3) Rust: Thanks to the corrosive weather of Mumbai, my bike has witnessed bit of rust formation near the saaree guard joints and one or two places. The rod connecting to the rear brake has also caught significant rust formation. The replacement one will just cost around 50 -80 bucks so not that big of a problem.. i guess this part's metal is of low quality..will get it replaced post monsoons.
Thank god that there are not rust marks on the frame.. I guess post monsoons i will have to indulge myself in a bit of brush painting.. Any suggestions guys which paint to use!!
4) Carburetor Clean up: As posted earlier, the carburetor had got quite a lot of muck which my friend got it cleaned from a mechanic in my absence.. so really can't comment about this one. Earilier my bike used to start after 2 - 3 clicks. Now my bike starts at one click without any hiccups whatsoever!!
I am getting in touch with Joel today and will post the results and pictures of the FFE installation.. should be happening within a week or two.
CheersA quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

Met with an accident again this morning..
It happened at the Pizza hut signal, powai. It was drizzling and the roads were wet. There is this latch type manhole in the middle of the road which is like a plane sheet of iron-ore without any design or patterns which increase the friction and grip. I was riding at a modest speed of 30-40km and happened to pass over this manhole..
The cover was loose and as the front tyre went over it, it shifted a little bit and the tyre skidded, I tried to control it and by that time, the rear one went over the same cover and skidded further..
In a matter of less than a second, I was on the ground with my rainwear lowers torn at the knee, left mirror bar bent and left side faring broken. The fork and handlebar has also got bent, I think.
Thankfully, I was wearing my riding gear like always and didn't have any injuries to my body..
The Nighfury, however still ran smooth without any issues. I took it to the SVC and got it checked. The mechanic said, that the fork alignment would have to be done else where as Yamaha doesnt believe in repairs and would replace the part instead. The fork set was quoted around 8K
.. and the faring would be 680 bucks.
He then suggested that he can get the fork repaired at 500 rs from another mechanic outside if I want.. although, I wasnt sure, but I didnt have a choice then, so I went ahead with it..
I am surprised that Yamaha SVC doesn't repair the repairable parts..

. I have met with a couple of accidents on my fz-s and on both occasions the forks were tweaked/mis-aligned with the handlebars. I took it to the svc and they fixed it using some hydraulic tools to the correct alignment for 550 bucks
. Fork tweaking is very common and can be fixed by yourself to an extent
. For exact, precision alignment they do it with hydraulic tools
. maybe your svc doesn't have hydraulic tools.

Cool Mesh Seat Cover is no longer available for FZOriginally posted by sk7671 View Postok, so am new to Bangalore and been a while since i rode in India. Booked a Bullet but got tired of the wait. The FZS seemed to be a good bike (especially due to the rear tyre). I test drove one last week and was literally Fida due to the ride quality. So finally booked one and might be getting delivery tomorrow. Have read some good reviews for this bike and am actually a fan of Yamaha (experienced the 1100 cc Silverado).
What are some 'Must have' accessories? I was thinking - Mesh seat cover is sure one of them. Any others? LED lights, handle grips etc etc?
Just when I wanted to buy one it suddenly went out of stock . The seat of my bike is too hard and on rides longer than 45 minutes my buttocks feel the burn

I'll try that next time around.. Yamaha Factory shop is very close to my office (<1km) thats why I have been going there.Originally posted by RAK View PostTry Kamla Yamaha, Parel. Thats is far more better SVC as compared to others in Mumbai.
Got every thing repaired, 680+150(labour) for left faring, 450 for Leg guard (2 rods), 460 for fork alignment, 100 bucks for labour + washing..
Now I'm wondering if I should get the stock tyres replaced to have a better grip on the road and such slippery surfaces?Last edited by digitalD; 07-18-2011, 09:51 PM.

I just bought some chain cleaner and lube from a motorcycle essentials shop. the brand is 'rustlic 631'. the cleaner costs 70/- and the lube 180/- combined cost 250/-. they are suitable for use in almost all mechanical components and on painted surfaces too. they also prevent rust and corrosion.
first i put my bike on the main stand after a short ride and put it in gear and
ran it so the chain could get warmed up.
next i generously sprayed on the cleaner and waited for 10mins. it worked rather well and most of the muck and grime dripped off. just to be sure, i gave it a good rubbing using a toothbrush.
after the chain appeared reasonably clean, i started spraying the lube on it. the lube is white lithium grease which is very soft, lathery and bubbly. i applied it generously. the chain became white in colour. i only applied one coat and left it to work itself into the nooks and crannies. sprayed some on the sprocket too. after 15mins i took it out for a ride and found that the annoying sound had disappeared. after some reading, i found out that this lube only lasts around 400 kms max and the can only lasts about 7-9 sprays.
so this will suffice for the next 3000 kms. do the math- 250 rs. for 3000km if you do it yourself. the same thing if done with motul sprays costs around 700+ and if done at the svc 6 times(every 500 kms) costs around 700/-.if you're using yamalube, this will save u thousands. it beats Yamalube/Motul/svc hands down for VFM.
what say guys?
i also plan on fitting an alarm system. Are there any tips I can get from you guys??Last edited by vishal monster yamaha; 07-18-2011, 11:21 PM.Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly

it might have gotten wet when somebody overtook you at that time you might not have realized....
also when riding in rain the water percolates your trousers and then starts wetting your feet...[/QUOTE]
NOPE none of these were the case i m sure
it was clearly rain water dripping from the front somewhere down my feet the thing is even th road was barely wet not a lot of water i wonder why?
i got the Ushaped crash guard could it be that ?
not likely i assume though
