from what i have observed when i rev at 60 kmph in 4th gear this thing kicks in and some plasticky like smell and it feels like the bike is overheating. Maybe psycological at 4th gear coz this happens in every-gear afterwards and when one is in the traffic and this thing happens .. dissapointing, my bike won't even start after that by self starter , if i am like still at some good speed say 20's i release the clutch and the bike comes to life again.Originally posted by abhijitkn View PostOk..but you mentioned the screw, so was not sure. Does it happen at any speeds or only at =/> 60kmph?
SVC guys are dumb here in srinagar
Ps.: they changed that jet coz the bike was giving some black exhaust when the bike was idle and i pulled the throttle to 5-6 k rpm (This thing occurred immediately after 1st service )Last edited by sxrmafia; 01-26-2012, 06:57 PM.

It seems that the engine is not getting enough fuel at that RPM due to which it dies (try using choke) & black smoke is due to improper air furl ratio (excess fuel) & may be that is why the technician played around with the carb. You can get it checked again by some other technician (apart from SVC / non Yamaha if they don't have an expert). Also try the same thing (60kmph at the same RPM it should be bet'n 5k-6k) when the bike is on main stand. But make sure bike is stand still
. The engine should stall.

Can someone please tell me how to adjust theheadlight beam of Fazer and whether its possible to adjust it horizontly as well.
I have a setup wherein both the headlights work together. You start the game with a full pot o' luck and an empty pot o' experience... The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck.

Wat kinda road surface do u usually use ur bike on. Also if possible post a pic.
Ma bike has covered 32000+ in 2 years n the tire can go on for another year.

I heard making the headlight twin beam is a very easy task...can I do it myself? If I tell SVC people, how much would they charge? Any tutorials on this?Originally posted by Jdsouza81 View PostCan someone please tell me how to adjust theheadlight beam of Fazer and whether its possible to adjust it horizontly as well.

Hi All,
finally decided to get the fork seal repaired on coming Monday (30th Jan). Kamla Yamaha work shop, Lower Parel is currently out of stock of the front shocks, fork rubber seal for FZ. So have requested fellow xbhp member, iceman331 to help me source out the genuine ones from the Andheri Yamaha dealer/workshop. I will put the stock fork oil from the svc only though there are other good brands from Motul(http://www.indiamart.com/atlantic-lu...-products.html) and others.
@RAK: thanks for the suggestion, i guess it makes sense to replace both. Just got little bit confused by fellow mates who were advising against it.
I remember reading somewhere that even fork seal oils have viscosity and operating temperature grades (i.e. 10W 40, 15W 50)? if that is so are there any recommended grades for Indian temperatures? stock grade offered by the svc is 20W.
@LuckyLuke: your comments/advise would be a great help.

you can adjust the beam, you can see there's a big silver srew head inside the fairing. you can turn it to adjust with a screw driver. removing the panels around the instrument thing make its more easier to spot and work. use 4size Allen key to remove the parts.Originally posted by Jdsouza81 View PostCan someone please tell me how to adjust theheadlight beam of Fazer and whether its possible to adjust it horizontly as well.

Hey, this sounds similar to my problem. I called the Yamaha tollfree and they patched it to my SVC, and I got a call from them in just an hour or so. they asked me to get the bike, the mechanic at svc let the engine warm up first, then revved it at varying RPM's but that smell did never crop up, me wasting just the petrol. He concluded saying "Its nothing, as its a new bike the powder coated paint or new gaskets must be setting so you may have got that smell".Originally posted by sxrmafia View Postfrom what i have observed when i rev at 60 kmph in 4th gear this thing kicks in and some plasticky like smell and it feels like the bike is overheating. But i was still getting it, really bad like some rubber melts off when I rev hard and change gears i.e around 6000-7000rpm and its close to what you described and my 2nd service is still due in another 10days. The gear shifts were hard, since my engine oil was just little above low mark, I topped it up to the level at high mark, now the engine and gear shift is smooth and I havent had the smell crop up,.Last edited by prajnyan; 01-29-2012, 08:25 AM.There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. FFE Comparison
Hi All,
got hold of genuine front shock rubber seals thanks to iceman331. Total cost of a pair is Rs. 314/-(inclusive of all taxes). will get them fixed tomorrow at Kamla Yamaha, Lower Parel. have a pic attached of the same. Some idiot had dropped my bike while it was parked at Phoenix shopping mall parking area and as a result my bike's handle bar got bent. I didn't even realise it till iceman pointed it out to me. so will get it replaced tom as well. Costs around Rs. 300-350/-
FFE Comparison:
Since, iceman331 had recently got a free flow exhaust done by his friend who does tune ups for cars and stuff so we decided to test each others bikes to see what major difference does Joel's FFE have against his friend's. For 1st 2 rounds, i got hold of iceman's ride and we decided to do a drag test against my FZ. Then for the test to be fair, we decided to switch over to our own bikes and give it the beans (Please note that all this was done wearing proper gear and empty roads. We made it a point that at no time any such drags will be carried forward if we witness traffic or pedestrians!)
Results & Observations:
1) Iceman331's FFE is definitely silent compared to my Joel's race spec exhaust and it has more glass wool content which in turn gives a deep bassy note when idling and also reduces the overall decibel level of the FFE. Since, his friend has successfully camouflaged the FFE inside the plastic cover which comes with the stock, it is nion impossible for a cop to distinguish it as a free flow unless he owns a stock FZ and then too looks for it very carefully.
2) Joel's FFE being derived from racing background is more unrestricted and has a much deeper bass tone and is loud as hell with the DB Killer removed. So far i have done many rounds along with the pandus riding their beat marshal bikes right next to me without raising an eyebrow. Even on routine check nakas no problems whatsoever. Being simplistic design and no crazy logos and stuff, i guess it is more or less ignored by many. Only that the riders on the road give a curious look whenever i overtake them.
3) At full throttle, My Race Concepts exhaust is loud, i mean really really LOUD!! Whereas iceman331's exhaust is way silent and after riding with my FFE unlocked, i felt like i was back on stock exhaust but with better performance. on an estimated basis iceman's FFE would be doing around 70 - 80 decibels whereas mine would be doing around 90 - 95 decibels when one guns their bike to the max.
4) On Performance basis, after 4 rounds of drag race, iceman331 and i both agreed that Joel's free flow exhaust is definitely 10% better and lets the engine hit redline in no time. Throughout the drags my bike kept pulling faster than his but only by say two FZs length at the finish line. So without a doubt his friend seems to have pulled it off with a good free flow exhaust. The bike indeed revs better and reaches top end faster.
Out of 10 i would give iceman's exhaust 8 points just for the fact that it is camouflaged and looks like more or less stock. On the looks department, this is where Joel's exhaust loses points.
On pure performance basis Joel's exhaust is better followed closely by iceman331's exhaust. And to make it an unbiased report, i would request iceman331 to share his experience with you all.
