I would like to replace the horn of my FZ-16 with that of R15 v2.0 , I really like the sound of that ,has anyone here got it installed on their bikes ? should i go for it ? What would be the approx cost for this mod .

Have you bothered to call up a Yamaha dealer and speak to the spare parts department for a price?
and the SCV managers for a price for installation?

Why would he? This forum is a free service from people taking the time to investigate for all the lazies who find easier and cheaper to just post here, and get advices and expertise for free from others who are here to devote themselves to answering all the dumb questions. He - like others - would be stupid not to use the wonderful service this forum provides!

Here is a serious question now

Has anyone changed their valve caps/dust caps? You know, the little caps on your bike rim where you remove these before inflating the tyre.

I'd like to change mine to the ones on a Fazer.
I'm bored of the FZS ones. Has anyone tried this mod out?
How much will it cost and anyone know of a good mechanic near Pune?
Also what mileage will I be expecting to get?
Can you give me examples of mileage before and after changing the caps.
I read online somewhere that by changing the caps you can pull more girls. Can anyone verify this and I can use all the "pulling" power I can get!

Those are minda twin-tones also known as "Tavera Horns" in the market,will cost you around 1000 with fitting charges included.

Oil burning issue.
After an open heart surgery it came out to be a bust oil seal in the cylinder head. Got decarb done at 17000km.
replaced push rod.
The engine looks a beauty when opened...

Were you keeping her constantly on the red line? Did ever did top up.. Seems to be the culprit behind a busted seal to me atleast.

Any reason as to why the push rod

was replaced? As far as I remember there are no pushrods in this engine as the cam is overhead.

Pushrods are used in engines (usually old american V8's) where the cam is lower down the engine block, there is a cam follower/lifter then pushrod that pushed against the rocker arm that in turn pushes down on the valve.

There is a Conrod. Is this what you meant? The connecting rod from the crank to piston.

Do you mean the oil scraper ring? the wavy one?
Did you get the cyl rehoned, new compression rings installed also?

Yes the engine when fully opened does look impressive, though the big white plastic gear that drives the oil pump is not too impressive.....I would have much preferred a nice steel gear.

You forgot to ask for the cost of this "mod" and the address of a good mechanic for doing it since you are not sure about the Yamaha SVC!!!

....but this "serious question" is priceless (for those who share your sense of humor - very few here I am afraid, to judge by the avalanche of reactions!)

Rattling Sound from Engine

hi guys,

I have been hearing a weird rattling noise when I run/idle the engine at 4k RPM. Also the engine rhythm is harsh and ride feels viby.

I rode my friends 3 yrs old FZ16, the bike felt smooth and engine rhythm was very smooth.

What could be wrong with the ride?? Please help me out guys...

See the posts above regarding the valve caps....

but seriously, It can be from a number of things.
time/km since last oil change
cam chain not tensioned
burnt valve/s (too lean)
valve tappets need adjustment
cam timing is out
worn sparkplug
high tension (HT) lean earthing out
CDI/electrics connection loose
carb tuning (too lean/rich)
carb blocked
Carb choke stuck on/partly on
cat converter collapsed (very rare but can happen)
bad fuel
worn piston rings
blocked airfilter
PCV blockage

The list can go on and on. Need more details.

New FZ Mods

The latest version of FZ bares wider rear seat, grab rails and chain guard. Is it possible to carry out these changes on existing FZ? I checked with YFS and they said that it can not be...... the new FZ bares different chassis
