      • Got my red beast yesterday

        Hi,

Finally got my Red beast yesterday, real nice smooth ride. The road grip is amazing. I am moving from avenger so I find the throttle response simply great.

        Couple of issues though

        1) The horn is a crazy squeek more like one belonging on TVS-50
        2) The mileage is real bad I put in about 5 ltrs, and did hardly 50 kms and its already in reserve..
        3) Did not get my manual or toolkit
        4) The position of the front number plate is spoiling the look.

Will try to post a more detailed report later.

        • Hi all, I think I have to introduce myself as this is my first post.

I am Ranjith from Coimbatore. I am the one of the proud owner of the new FZ16. I took the delivery on 25.10.

Here is a picture of my bike.
I have driven the bike for about 160kms till now. I feel the gear shift very notchy and my ride does seem to fall in to false neutrals. This seems to contradict many of the older member's post.
Well I would like to know solutions for the same. There was one incidence that happened today I was unable to shift downwards beyond 2 nd gear.
Am I the only guy who seems to face all these problems

Ranjit, try shifting the gears after blipping the throttle a bit (do not shift while blipping the throttle, only after the blipping).

            throttle blipping = slight throttle

BTW, congrats for the new FZ16.

              Hi All !
I recently bought the FZ-16. It is a lovely bike in the looks and handling department. The only thing iam not completely satisfied is the BHP. Please tell how can i increase the power of the bike. I dont care at all for the mileage.I will be really thankful guys.

Bro free service means the labour charges will not be charged but the cost of all consumables like engine oil , chain spray, gaskets, radiator oil, brake pads ect. will have to be paid by the consumers.

                  • Finally i had a test ride of the FZ16 at Pacer Motors, Bangalore. Some of the observations from my side:

                    Likes:

                    Looks:
Macho'ish looks and that lovely exhaust steals the show.Enough to set pulses racing.

Engine Refinement: The bike felt as refined as the R15 but with a more throaty roar.Even at high revs it never felt strained.

Stability. At slower speeds the bike needs to be nudged more as compared to other bikes in its segment. But once speed builds up it is immensely flickable and with that monstrous 140 section tyre the bike was extremely stable. All in all a very good handling machine.

Power: Well this is the most tricky part. Power/Performance cravers would be disappointed, somewhat. But make no bones about it the bike sheer torque did keep me busy.I went to test ride the bike with to-enjoy-bent of mind and i was not expecting a fireworks a la RTR. The bike is definitely not as fast as the RTR but it's as fast as the UG3 or the Extreme. And yeah, this bike takes the cake when it comes to fun-to-ride factor(low and mid range). In this case, even the RTR would trail as it's more of a screamer at high revs.

The way the FZ made power at top gear at slow speeds did impress me.In city riding would be a breeze in this bike.

                    Dislikes:

Display LCD:I really don't know what was the reason for the illegible tacho display which would require a lens to view during daytime!! You just won't notice it while riding.

Power at higher rpms did seem to taper off more rapidly.May be because the bike's engine character is more for city runabouts.

VFM:This is tricky question.Whoever prefers looks over performance should surely go for this bike and others should look elsewhere or should wait. My friend was not that impressed especially when pricing is taken into account.75k-on road is somewhat steep but hey you don't have any other product like this,Period!!

The bike is indeed a good product from Yamaha and it did impress me more than the R15!!

Thanks for the reply I will try this out today.
Regarding this false neutral issue I feel the bike's neutral comes up every time I try to shift from first to second. The neutral light (indicator) almost blinks each and every time I up shift from the first. Is the case in the bike I never faced such a issue in my previous Unicorn.

I almost feel as if the FZ's gear moves from first to neutral and then to second all in one go. Is it ok ??
While downshifting the bike seems to go smooth its way to 1st from second with out the interference of the neutral.
I hope I was able to clearly communicate my point. Awaiting response eagerly. Thanks in advance

I am not sure of ur previous unicorn, coz in my present unicorn, the reverse seems to happen. It seems to move from first to second without any neutral indication, but when I downshift from second to first, I can see the neutral light blink.

Well it means Yamaha Ram air cooling system. It sounds like some technical electronics but its actually the bike's cooling scoops etc., there is one specifically directing the air to the are near the spark plug for effective cooling.

                            • My Yamaha Dealer recalled my bike today !!

It happened today I got a phone call around 1 pm. My dealer was on the line and asked me to bring my bike to the showroom. I went there puzzled, he informed me that Yamaha has asked to change the brake camshaft (yes that is what he said and he showed me the brake tag maybe he thought I dont know what a brake camshaft is or didnt want me to panic )
It seems that the bike has been fitted one with lesser thickness when manufactured and now with the new one refitted I don't see any change in the braking force maybe it was related to reliability issue.

I asked him to see the chain slackness in my bike ( I felt that could be the reason for the behavior of my gears) and he corrected the same. Now things are fine I had diagnosed the problem in my bike !! I guess I will stop moaning now about my gears

I am expecting to hear from fellow owners !
here is the picture I am sorry I was unable to take one before the change may be some one yet to under go the change can be of help

Me too from Coimbatore, I too have the same issue cropping up when down shifting, but upshifting is a breeze.

Hope to catch up with you.
