An update on my query. I went to the SVC today to get my bike checked. The guy said that the rear sprocket is damaged and needs to be changed. But also said that the I can use the same sprocket for another 1000-2000 km. It'll cost me 1700/- and will take 2-3 hours. So I'll be giving it on Monday for the sprocket change.
How did your sprocket get damaged?

I think Rs. 1700 is not just for replacing the sprocket. It must also be for replacing other parts since the sprocket alone cost less than Rs. 300. Could you tell us what else will be replaced?

      • Hey guys , today I saw an FZ it was Red and White, with white alloys. Was looking excellent. Sad part was the guy was riding with his family, He his wife one child between the two and one the youngest one say around 3-4 yrs was on the tank. Think he never heard of the term 'Safe Riding'.

BTW , is there a Limited edition in red and white too?

If any repairs to be done are not covered by warranty, I don't see any reason to go to the dealer. I would prefer going to my local mechanic whom I know and trust and is almost certainly cheaper too.

As for parts, you can buy them at the dealer or at other stockists who sell genuine parts, usually at a discount.

I checked with yamaha spare guy, he told me that rear sprocker cost - around 250, front-150, chain-750 and labour charges-250. Before giving, ask them to explain how 1700/- is coming...

              • Hi Guyz,
A Query, My FZ is a 900Km old and yesterday took it from 1st service. i said to the service guys abt a burnt smell from the engine someitmes for which they said its usual only...and suggested me to use only Speed/Xtrapremium petrol.

jus want to know whether it is usual thing or something need to be checked? Also what type of petrol needs to be used for FZ?

Burning smell is common in initial run-in period. Don't worry about it, unless its still coming even after 2-3K kms.
Also do not use 91 octane petrols, the bike's engine compression ratio is less than 10.0:1, so designed for use with regular petrol only. Get fuel filled from a trusted pump where adulteration will be less.

You're doing it wrong when you slam the rear brake in case of emergency. The bike will start fishtailing, whether the brake is disc or drum doesn't matter. Emphasis should be on the front brake if you want a quick stop.

Thanks Sarvajit. sure will check for the same after 3k kms.

Don't know. I asked him how much will it cost n he said around 1700/-

I have no idea. He just had a look at my tire running in 1st gear n said that sprocket is gone . This he suggests is due to normal wear n tear since my bike has clocked almost 12000 km.

Haven't tried this before. Also, here the nearby mechanics have no idea about dealing with FZ so I'm scared to give them my bike for their hands-on practice.

Thanks mate. Will double check it with the guys. Good that I didn't give them the bike today else I'd have been 1700/- less upto now

                          • Hey is it ok to apply Formula 1 wax to the FZ? I used to apply it on unicorn but since FZ has a fibre fuel tank,i am in doubt.
