Also do not use 91 octane petrols, the bike's engine compression ratio is less than 10.0:1, so designed for use with regular petrol only. Get fuel filled from a trusted pump where adulteration will be less.
FYI, all normal petrol sold in India is 91 octane number since over two years. This came about because of the Bharat stage 2 and newer emission norms imposed by the govt.

Also, using a higher octane number petrol such as 93 or 97 octane will not have any ill effects on the engine. In fact, using a higher octane petrol could improve the engine performance in certain situations.

Another advantage is that if they are adulterated, the lower octane number is likely to be high enough for the engine to run normally.

Generally, higher the compression ratio of a petrol engine, higher the octane number required.

The only disadvantage of high octane number is the high price!

The rear shock absorber can be adjusted for spring preload. It needs a special tool that Yamaha doesn't supply with the tool kit, so you'll have to visit a mechanic. It's a very simple job and should take less than a minute.

Ok. Forgot to mention that in my 1st sevice. Got to get that done while collecting my RC card. B'lore owners any idea how long does it take for the smart card to arrive?? SVC says 45 days. Is that true??

I have no idea. He just had a look at my tire running in 1st gear n said that sprocket is gone . This he suggests is due to normal wear n tear since my bike has clocked almost 12000 km.

Lemme have a second opinion too n then will let u know soon.

Haven't tried this before. Also, here the nearby mechanics have no idea about dealing with FZ so I'm scared to give them my bike for their hands-on practice.

Thanks mate. Will double check it with the guys. Good that I didn't give them the bike today else I'd have been 1700/- less upto now

Hmm, one of the local mechanics also told me my rear sprocket is gone. I have done some 17K KMs. He should me, that at certain place, the wheel is not as free as it shud be. Is it because of the sprocet or something else?

                  • 1 week bike for a 1000 KM ride?

                    Hi Guys,
Its amazing to see all your experiences with the FZ16. While I am planning to buy this beast I have a rather stupid question.
I might have to take this bike as soon as I buy to a 1000 KM ride over 6-7 days. Now is this something that I should avoid with the new bike? Please let me know. Will it damage the bike to go so far without a service? Will the engine hold up well?

                    Look forward!

It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

If the rear sprocket is gone, then change it. Today i went to service centre, i saw a FZ with rear sprocket teeth broken. Not 1 teeth lot of teeths broken.... So better change the chain and both sprockets.. me changed at 8k. changed to R15 sprockets and FZ chain....
