The engine should wear during running period, if we use fs oil there won't be much wear, dats y its better to use fs after that period.

Thanks buddy. When i bought the bike i was insisted in installing grip covers. Due to lack of awareness i agreed. During the first service i was informed by the service engineer to change the grip cover as it is thick and the clutch is not getting pulled in completely, though i am able to change gears. He mentioned this will cause the gear box to wear out fast. I inspected the grip covers and it seems the honda stock covers were removed before installing the showroom recommended grip cover. The showroom people did not give me the stock grip cover. Will i get honda unicorn stock grip cover???What other alternative do i have to install a slim grip cover??? Most importantly where can i find them in kolkata???

        • Timing Chain Changed

My Unicorn has completed 31500Kms was having engine noice after a few kms of driving. It increased after engine becomes hotter.

Last weekend changed the timing chain and timing chain adjuster (Rs 340 & Rs 250 respectively + 200 Labor) and changed Oil to Honda 10W30 (Rs 240)

Now the engine sound seems to have vanished and sounds like a new engine from showroom.

Gear shifts have become harder and the pickup seems to have reduced to a great extent. Might be because of the oil ??

There doesn't seems to be a drop in Mileage as bike has run for 112 Kms till now for 2 litres of petrol and yet to hit reserve.

The timing chain and the adjuster are from Hero made for CBZ.
These spares were out of stock in Honda Showrooms.

          Hi Girish,

They should not have removed your stock grip covers. The ones which come with Unicorn are excellent.
Even if you pay for installing additional grip covers, how can the stock one be removed. !!!

Usually, it will be installed over the stock one. Check that out.
If you are unable to find it, fight with the service centres and get it back.

This is fairly common, here my mechanic does the same, for unicorn he installs extreme spares nad for activa pleasure spares, because Honda spares and not readily available and those who stock it jack up the price.

Regarding pickup, then since the timing chain and tensioner is new the bike is feeling tighter to rev so perception of less pick-up wait for some kilometers and free revving nature will come back.

I checked today morning. For the accelarator they have removed the stock grip cover. For the clutch once i lifted the cover, i could see a black layer, hoping it is the stock grip, but not sure. When i lift the grip cover for throttle, i see white plastic. Seems i have to fight it out if honda workshop does not have them in stock. It is so unfortunate, how people manipulate in the name of customer service and doing business.

same torque on shift up for some initial seconds..and when you twist throttle lever further..it will change..this is unicorn's setup for smooth upshift..but if you quickly downshift to 4 from 5 you will notice the engine roaring for an upshift..wait patiently till first service..be happy...comparing to splendour ,unicorn is not a ride that will disappoint you..guarenteed

                Hello there,

I have done 1st service , also changed oil. Gears have become more smooth and engine can be revved little more than before.
I feel bike has good mid range power.
Only down side is It sucks little at low speed specially speed below 30kmph. I have to keep patience initially.
It starts showing good pulling power after 3k rpm and in 3rd gear.

Now I don't mind shifting 5th gear as it leaves other roaring bikes behind smoothely.

Good to hear bro....Yea....low rpm will be lil bit sluggish...to overcome that you need to rev up little bit extra on the previous gear..however that is not adviced if you are an economic rider...hard revving will drink more Gas......usually we use midrange torque more in a commuter like this..thats why they tweaked the Gears and Engine for Mid rpm performance..dont worry it will be flying smoothly till 7000-7500rpm..beyond that you require shift up rather than thinking your ride is begging for little bit mercy...depends on how you ride it...anyway your bike is a brand new one..try maintaining it proper..and avoid redlining and all..ride it like what they meant uni for..I know couple of 4-5 old year bikes which were ridden like their own children..and they are now stock champions...better refinement and performing than my newer uni..

                    thanks.
I would recommend shell helix semi-synthetic oil (I have been using this for my Unicorn and it's awesome, makes the engine run smoothly) or shell ultra helix fully synthetic oil, . . The best and also many of my friends and mechanics have been recommending Castrol magnetic, they say it reduces the sound to almost 0%, just give it a try, I will also see and tell you about some who have put it and their views about it. . .
