  • Honda CB Unicorn vibrates at 60-70 .

    Hi All,

I have CB Unicorn black color which is 1.5 yr older with 16.5 KM in odo meter. I have a sever vibration problem from engine when ever my meter crosses 60 KMPH.
It again becomes smooth after 70 or 75 KMPH. I have complained this many times to my mechanic where no is able to solve my problem also 2 of friends has unicorn with same issue (exactly after 60KMPH). is this is common in all the unicorn or is there any way to solve this.

I have tried many engine oils to over come form this issue. Currently am using Shell Mineral 20W40 oil.

    Please suggest

    Thanks all

Just for to be sure that nothing else I have to face in the near future.
Yes the mechanic was very much a perfect guy who did the job I know him since 10 years.
At the end the bike is superb now the mechanic told me to start the bike @ home for 2 hrs so that the engine is smooth as the bike has got new heart, also the work has been carried out outside the company meaning its asc but since they start and keep god now why did he say any ways currently the bike is start as he adviced me and also I am not riding her more than 40 speed also the bike is super smooth. I am happy
ok, glad to hear the work on the engine is completed. but your posts are sometimes difficult to understand looks like you are typing with a lot on tension in your head and eating up words and missing sentences.
you say the work was carried out 'outside the company' and then say it means asc and then go on to talk about keeping the bike started...

Yes it is a good practice to keep the engine running for an hour or two after a rebuild (with a few minutes break every 30mins). Do a careful run-in for 1000km.

ah! Sorry for that buddy. I meant the work was carried in the asc only. But I meant when the company makes a vehicle do they do this work of leaving the vehicle ideal like I have to do today after an engine rebuild.
Well also one more thing the mechanic told me to do a 2 hrs engine start today in the evening and 1 hrs tom when the engine is in cold condition. And he also told me to wait in the morning after the engine becomes cold after u have done a 1 hrs of ideal? Why is this can anyone explain me this or a link or something to understand it better.

        ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Also want to add here the picture of the piston back well it is the old one and not the new one. As I had to leave the vehicle for 1 day as the time got over. Well yes the parts which have been put in the vehicle are new as I have seen the old parts at the asc and yes I trust them they will not cheat on me and I am sure for that.

Thanx guys for helping me also yes I will ride her very slow under 4000 rpm and below 40 - 50 range for this period no fast movement very slow ride.

Well can't go through all this torture for my bike anymore she had enough.

Leaving the engine running for an hour or two after a rebuild is a general practice followed by mechanics. It is supposed to help with engine break-in and ring sealing with the bore and is like a 'warm up' before you play a sport - This allows a safer run in (than riding the bike i.e. pulling loads) and you can monitor if there are any leaks or oil level drop after running the bike at standstill. An hour should be enough IMO, after that a gradual run-in with varying the rpms.

the mech asked you to wait for the engine to cool down after 1 hr of idling, so that the engine doesn't end up over heating when you ride it. he was just being safe and taking an educated guess to keep you on the safer side from engine seizure.

but again a factory built bike has a different level of reliability than one that has been opened and worked on. I think even in the factory, after a bike has been assembled it is run for a few minutes and tested before being sent to the dealers. The odometer may not show up the kms, but the bike might have been idling and revved at the factory.

it's a clip on handle bar for Honda Unicorn which will cost around 450-500rs, looking forward to fit this handle bar next. . . I too have a different handle bar on my bike, the Suzuki shogun handlebar which works like wonder for my bike and I had previously tried out RD Handle bar, what they call, was wider and offered good stability but then later on switched to Shogun sports handle, am very pleased with its grip and handling. . . Jus love it. . . Here's a pic of my handle bar,

Go for a semi-synthetic or fully synthetic oil for your Honda Unicorn. . . I previously had a little bit of vibration on my Unicorn but after I used the Shell Helix semi synthetic oil (not the yellow bottle but a level higher than that but a sought of blue color), I found much a great difference in my bike, the bike has become totally silent and it's smoother too and the roar it makes at higher speed is sweet to listen. . . Just do this and change the oil in current intervals and you will have a happy bike to ride on. . . One more oil I have been hearing lately is the Castrol magnetic, my friends and other mechanics say its very very synthetic oil and causes almost zero sound from the engine, you can check that as well. . .

              Cheers!!!

The bar looks narrower than stock, doesn't that mess up the cornering of the bike? Did u try fz handle bar?

                  HI All,

I have a Honda CB Unciorn which is 1.5 yrs old and with 16.7 K kilo meters in Odo meter. My problem here is when ever my bikes crosses 60 KMPH it started to vibrates., It totally losses its smoothness once it reaches 60. May be it come back to smooth after 75KMPH.

I tried with many engine oil brands but of no use. Currently am using Shell 20W40 Mineral Oil. Please suggest and help!

Try to source Veedol super swift 10W40 SS oil, it is very good oil for Unicorn.
Immediately you will find smooth engine, better heat management and improved FE.

If you unable to get the above oil, the second choice is Shell AX7 10W40 SS oil. Don't try any 10W30 oil in this chennai hot summer.

@sinnerz2000 Cornering. . ? Are you kidding, it's just superb handle, it gives me confidence in corners than my regular Unicorn handle and in fact, I can bend it a little more than the stock handle bar. . . It works like wonder, . . In starting you'll find it little difficult to adjust but as time passes, you'll start loving to ride with it. . . The fz handle seems too short for my Unicorn, next planning for a clip on handle bar like the one someone had posted above. . . As it's quite short handle bar, it turns direction very quickly and you will be amazed with it's handling. If you are planning for a new handle bar, just go for this, it's superb, SUZUKI SHOGUN SPORTS HANDLE BAR, take the original one, it'll be quite heavy, around 6-8 kgs, that's how you will come to know. . . Will post the pics after I put the clip on handle bar. . .

I have few queries regarding my unicorn.

                          1. The unicorn engine is drastically changing in to like put it on vibration mode when i exactly cross 60KMPH. Does this happens to any other unicorn riders and pls help me resolve this.
                          2. For a very long time my chain guard makes sound. When i inquired this with my mechanics they said its very common in all the unicorn and every one has this issue. is it so ??
and one my associate said its because the chain length is little comparing to other bike so when it runs it swings a little which makes noise when it touches the chain guard.

                          please help me!!!

I have ridden two unicorn's recently and did not notice any such vibration (both are around an year old)

                              2. For a very long time my chain guard makes sound. When i inquired this with my mechanics they said its very common in all the unicorn and every one has this issue. is it so ??

It could be because of too much chain slack or a loose sprocket (especially rear- had this problem on my RX100) that is causing the chain to rub against the guard. If your ASC is unable to help you out, take it to a local mech and any decent one should be able to check and adjust it.

                              please help me!!!
