Answer this
Tell me this if the vehicle piston is bad even if u run the bike for 1000 km or 1200 will the vehicle give smoke?
Or
After how many km we can see smoke.
The problem is the asc is saying we can't give u warranty for the piston until and unless we see smoke from your bike? Now I need to know this as this is my first experience...

Re: Answer this
Smoke is emitted when oil is leaking into the combustion area and is burning along with the petrol. Lot of smoke is seen when a lot of oil is being burnt. If less oil is being burnt, it means less smoke will be emitted/seen. Nevertheless, less smoke is still faulty enough to be investigated.. Question is, how less is the smoke coming out of the exhaust?Originally posted by arjunb25 View PostTell me this if the vehicle piston is bad even if u run the bike for 1000 km or 1200 will the vehicle give smoke?

Even if there is very less smoke, is the engine oil level going down? If so, then it still warrants a replacement.

Re: Answer this
If oil is leaking in to the combustion chamber then you will have smoke. If its definitely a bore/piston problem, and in its initial stages then you may notice small drop in oil levels with very little smoke and as the damage increases it will be smoking a hell lot (even without revving it much)Originally posted by arjunb25 View PostTell me this if the vehicle piston is bad even if u run the bike for 1000 km or 1200 will the vehicle give smoke?

Now coming to the ASC - Are they saying that bike has a problem but we cant give warranty unless there is smoke? This is stupid, because they are acknowledging a problem but refusing to fix it unless it became worse !?! You need to write/email to Honda explaining this situation and they may help out to get things fixed faster from the service center.

Engine flooded
Hey guys I need some help with my uni. Yesterday while I was driving suddenly petrol started leaking from the bike.
Then it woudnt start, I took it to a nearby mechanic he said the engine was flooded and he will need to check the carb and clean it. I didnt have time so brought it home and havent ridden it since.
I have turned the fuel cock off to stop the leaking. Will take it to asc on sunday but need to know what has happened and what is to be done. Any help is appreciated.
Btw bike is 7 months old, 4000k on odo and all free servicing are done. Last servicing was around 20 days back.

Re: Engine flooded
Yes, the mech is right. Your carb was flooded and the petrol leaked thru the over flow pipe. This might have been caused due to a stuck float in the carb.Originally posted by ajtheghost View PostHey guys I need some help with my uni. Better to open the carb and clean it, while you are at it get the petcock also cleaned. One of the reasons why the float might get stuck is due to gummy deposits caused due to petrol break down. Sometimes just GENTLY tapping the float bowl with the handle of a screw driver 'un-jams' it ;-)

Thanks for the quick reply sid. That explains why the mech was hammering the carbOriginally posted by s1d View PostYes, the mech is right. Your carb was flooded and the petrol leaked thru the over flow pipe. This might have been caused due to a stuck float in the carb.

Can you please explain the procedure for carb and petcock cleaning so I can understand what all to look out for.
Thanks.

Re: Engine flooded
The procedure is pretty simple, they remove the carb, open it and clean it with a brush & petrol. If you are not having any other issues such as poor mileage/bad pick up etc.. make sure they dont fiddle with the tuning (i.e. the AFR mixture screw).Originally posted by ajtheghost View PostThanks for the quick reply sid. Make sure you get it done at the svc unless you know a trusted mech.
LOL @hammering, i hope he seriously dint bang on it with a hammer!!
If you want to learn how its actually done, then pls sit and watch the mech do it and look up some related vids on youtube. I cant explain in more details with just 'text' & i do not have any related pics to show you
the petcock is nothing but the 'on/off/reserve' mechanism. They will remove the nut from under the on/off knob and it may have a mesh or just a small 'pit' area were the rust/dirt settles over time. this will be cleaned with some petrol (yes the mechs love to take petrol from your bike and clean up parts ;-) )Last edited by s1d; 05-04-2013, 04:47 AM.

Re: bike ripped
@arjunb25, Why is the entire engine (crankcase split) opened up ? And surprising to see a ASC using bricks to support the split crankcase !!
And the pic showing the underside of the piston, is it the new replacement piston or the old one ?
btw, what is the nature of work being carried out and parts replaced. Lets know about the parts replaced and costs (warranty / extra charges) incurred.
I hope its being worked on by a competent mech. And be firm and make sure you get it all fixed up properly. All the best
take a breather buddy.

Re: bike ripped
All the history I don't know just that the 2 baring, crank case, block and piston have been changed. I have got the whole warranty for the same its just I had to pay for 1 baring which does not come from the company but u have to purchase it from out side which costed me 422 rs also I got the new engine oil with new spark plug. Just for to be sure that nothing else I have to face in the near future.
Yes the mechanic was very much a perfect guy who did the job I know him since 10 years.
At the end the bike is superb now the mechanic told me to start the bike @ home for 2 hrs so that the engine is smooth as the bike has got new heart, also the work has been carried out outside the company meaning its asc but since they start and keep god now why did he say any ways currently the bike is start as he adviced me and also I am not riding her more than 40 speed also the bike is super smooth. I am happyclick me
