  • This is very peculiar , all my bikes have a simple steel bolt with a crushable aluminum washer . In this case the chance of cracking the engine case by over-torque-ing it is minimal . But now a new problem will arise. Aluminum nuts/cover thread will tend to bind with the aluminum alloy case threads easily , causing it to break off while attempting to unscrew after a long gap . Also steel spanner / torque wrenches & tools will chew(deform) it easily like this sample Ashwin has .
I believe the Uni has steel bolt too (like the cbz-x) ?
Yes Ashwin , these Honda engines have the mesh oil-strainer as well as a centrifugal filter , but the clutch-side case has to be removed to access these for cleaning periodically .

Thanks bro, thanks to good digi cam of my friend,I love to click pics but i dont have a cam till now.

This one looks like die-cast aluminum to me too .
Is this the nut under the kari's engine that you open to drain the engine oil ?
Yes bro,Its the drain bolt,I have 2 of them in stock at home.I do oil change myself,so when ever it breaks or anything happens,i can replace it with the new one.

there shall be a wire-mesh strainer, since my cbz-x has the same and they are supposed to have the same origin .
      Here it is:

When should we clean the centrifugal filters?

Here's my experience with deformed aluminium cover bolt's in detail. May be helpful to someone.

The SVC's refer to it as the 'Rotor Filter'.

        • i've got to change my 1st gen uni's sprocket set now and wondering if i should go for the old 42 teeth or the new 43 teeth rear sprocket set. AFAIK the 43 teeth sprocket will increase acceleration but will increase engine strain a little which will also decrease the mileage a bit.

          • Tyres for uni

My Unicorn clocked around 28K,now planning to change its tyres.I am totally confused between MRF(OEMspec) and Michelin.I didn't faced even a single puncture till this date. Some one please clarify that, is Micheline tyres are more vulnerable to punctures because of its soft compound nature? What will be the approx lifespan of Michelin? Please guide me..

Get Sirac Street 2.75 * 18 for front and Sirac Street 100/90-18 for rear. Best tires.

Set it to 1500rpm when the engine is hot,it will be 1000 or 1200rpm in cold.

I have tried 1500 rpm,but its too high for uni, engine getting heated very fast and noise also increased so reduced to 1.1

Then try 1400rpm,1100 rpm is too low IMO. You mean 1100rpm in hot right?

Yes.1100 rpm in warm condition..other problem is needle not getting steady in one point its fluctuating between 1100 and 1000 unable to measure properly even with heated engine condition

Well revankar'Jee , this can be simple problem or a big one too . (i) the sealing ring that is between the crankcase & oil-nut is damaged and needs replacement or (ii) the same oil-nut was overtightened by someone causing a thin hairline crack in the engine case . Change the ring & bolt for a few bucks and see if the leak disappears , and while you are at it , ask the ASC to inspect the engine case thoroughly for any cracks or faulty gaskets . Both are possible , both are common .

                            Hi all,
I got my bike checked and the problem was with the washer its made of aluminium image attached. Now i don't see any leakage.

Mileage is quite OK between 45-50kmpl.
One more thing to add with pillion the engine loses the initial pickup and engine sound is prominent but as I move to the 4 and 5th gear (45kmph) it becomes smooth.
Last one month has been a tough one for my bike considering it did not even cough for 18 months, will monitor its performance.

                            Thanks everybody.

                            • I want to tune my bike by adjusting the idle screw and the fuel screw. I saw a tutorial regarding the same, only problem is i cannot find the fuel/air screw... the idle screw is on the right side of the bike.

Can anyone guide me in finding the air/fuel screw?

                              Regards,

I'm not sure if i explained my doubt clearly, but i was referring to this site:

Is it recommended to do the same for the unicorn?
