      • Hey Wing Riders,
        I'm new in this forum.
Bought myself a Uni in Sept 2008.
The Silver one, and i am very happy with it.
has done 4k. took it to highways a few days back.
with 75kgs + 75 kgs on the bike, it achieved 118kmph.
Is that normal? COz i have a friend in my college who has attained 122 on his uni with a pillion!
Started ripping off the bike at 3k now the bike gives only 38kmpl.
But if i drive it normally it gives 45kmpl. is this a normal FE for a uni?
yeah i read the whole thread. So pls forgive me for again asking something bout the FE!
        With Regards

Heh heh. The thought counts man
I for one was just trying to revamp this thread
Won't go targeting people just because they're worried about fuel averages. I see a change already here..

My bike's 3 years old and gives exactly the same mileage figures as yours Infact, the best ive ever got is 45kmpl.
On an average i get around 38kmpl. One must'nt forget that each bike that comes off the assembly line has some inherent differences/flaws, whatever you may like to label it as.
Although, driving at around 40km/h and not exceeding 60km/h does help the fuel averages to a great extent.

118 with a pillion is pretty impressive man. On nearly flat NH4 stretches, my bike capped out at around 112 (speedo) with a pillion. I weigh 70kilos and my buddy about 65.

As for the fuel average worries, one has to remember that its a trade-off. Once you start getting better averages, you'll lose the sprint-to-60 performance etc...

          Cheers..!!
I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman.

The top speed you mentioned is speedometer reading not the actual speed. The actual top speed of Uni is somewhere around 108 to 111 kmph.

FE is totally dependent upon your riding style, if you go beyond 60-65 kmph then any will start drinking fuel more. Uni's engine likes to be ridden peacefully rather than hard on throttle. The figure you mentioned is fine for your riding style i feel.

              • Thanx for letting me know that d FE is normal!
And i am not satisfied with the lights of Uni..
Can i change to a better one.
I have already installed a ROOTS horn.
So is the stock battery capable of handling that heavy horn and a better bulb?
                And just thought of mentioning.
Uni is the most comfortable bike in its class.
Not even once did i get a back pain!
Honda has done a great job!
Only after riding other bikes did i cherish that i bought a Uni.
                Regards

                • Well, I ride at a sedate speed of 3.5 - 4K rpm and it returns me an amazing 52-55kmpl in the city. On longer distances, I hardly take it over 65kmph and it returns 58-60kms to a litre!

And backpains that I had for so long have all disappeared!

                  • I have been touring alot recently and i can vouch for Uni's excellent suspension, keep it on hard for tough corners like ghat sections and medium for normal riding, overall the medium setting with correct tyre pressure (25 front 29 rear) is best suited with/without pillion

                    • Well I always like to drive my bike at 3.0 rpm and at a speed of 40kmph not beyond that everytime and on the top gear. She is giving me an average of 48-50 km. any suggestion to improve it more it is most welcome if i take her at 45 to 50 then will the average drop and should i increase the rpm. since the bike really sounds perfect at the speed i am riding her, and she is the best machine i think i have got till date apart from the previous bikes which i had. I guess, but i am not happy for one thing which really i miss on the bike and that is the handle bar should be short.

Since I have made my handle right down just a small gap is left before the tank.

Tried fitting a after market short handle but it was not successfull since the cowl was giving hell of a trouble and the tank was not giving any room for the handle to fit. So i quickly got the stock one put in.

have got pulsar both the horn with a cut out so that there is no load on the battery along with for safety feature have got black cat (not after market) from the company auto lock put on the bike which is really good and no problem have it since 2 months now, and there is no problem.

                      • Hey guys sorry if it discussed before. Is 10w30 engine oil ok for unicorn? I asked about it to the authorized seller but they couldn’t ensure about that. The manual of the bike indicate different grade oil for different temperature, Bangladesh’s weather as same as India so hope you guys give me some useful tips. Should I go for 10w30 or 20w50?

                        • I would advise to stick to 20W40. I reckon the weather in Bangladesh is about the same as West Bengal, then the climate isnt too hot nor too cold. Which means 20W40 would be better suited. Of course, if u do ride up to very cold areas, then u might want to consider 15W40.

                          • @prajwalkashyap: thanks for the reply.

Right now here in Bangladesh we can trust or can find good quality engine oil are “Mobil Super 4T 20w50 SG” and “Caltex Havoline Super 4T 10w30 SJ” so I have to choose between them. So which one should I use? May be I can find Castrol 20w40 but I’m not sure; need to check. Most probably I won’t get it.
But are Mobil or Caltex brand better than Castrol?

Well, 10W30 and 20W50 are both incorrect grading for the unicorn regardless of the brand. Its important to have a grade of oil with the higher rating at 40. The lower rating can change depending on the riding style and general weather. So u could use 15W40 or 20W40.

Try and look for Castrol 20W40 bottles and pick up a crate for urself!

                                I second that.
                                Stick to 20W40.
