However, if warmed up for around 3-4 minutes with chalk and then another 10-15 minutes without chalk, it works better. However, I feel loss of acceleration intially. Its like there is no petrol in the bike.

It does around 53 in 5th gear at 4000 rpm, 60 in 5th gear at 4400 rpm, 50 in 5th gear at 3800 rpm
Ohhhh Sad hearing this. Am unlucky. Why honda is doing like this ?? I am from kerala. I will get my unicorn on Wednesday from purackal honda kottayam. Has anyone faced the same issue ??

dude I have a 5 year experience of honda unicorn. Right now I have p220. Soon changing it back to unicorn as sick of bajaj. Well this problem was there in my brand new 220. When ever riding at some speed suddenly the bike reaction is like there is no petrol but when u start to pull the accelerating it works right. If so just close your eyes go to svc and give money for new spark plugs simple problem solved don't worry she will be just fine after that and u shall not have any problems at all for future.

One more thing my friends never ever use high octane fuel for cb unicorn u shall face serious issues.

I am from Kerala, and i have been using CB unicorn for 1.5 years. It took 10 months to get it delivered, and seriously i too have got the same problem with carb. What i blame myself is i installed K&N power filter 1100 to my ride and it was good for acceleration and the sound but after a certain period usage precisely saying after a long ride thru rain the slide got stuck n the the accelerator never worked. I was able to ride the bike by tripping on the choke. Later i removed the filter and now to the problem persists randomly. But this stopped for certain time period when i cruise at 100+kms.
guys i think its time for us to change the carb. or get it serviced well.

Yes, there are couple of guys who had the same issue. It was resolved after the first service.

That wont work, as they will merge it here.
Your bike does 50kmph at 4000, Mine does at around 3800. And 60 at around 4.5k. Now why is there a difference? looks like your carb is tuned leaner or is mine rich??? What do other owner have to say here??

That's a good Idea. will try to change spark plug and see how it goes.
Btw I think P220 is also an excellent machine. Wonder why you got fed up with it.

I dont think the problem is with the Carb. If that was the case then the bike shouldn't perform well after warming up. Also checked with a mechanic from Honda and he insisted not to change the Carb settings until atleast first service. I might try to tune it for optimum performance (not rich nor leaner) after the first service.

carb settings has nothin to do with speed-rpm relation. the difference you and Fayad quoted may more likely a human error

Yes I do think the issue is with the plug itself. SVC's seldom stock NGK plugs. They may have Bosch instead. u can buy one urself on specific uni's heat range- NGK oem(CPR8EA-9), NGK Platinum tip(CPR8EAgp-9) both are available in market. A store man told me Iridium Plug(CPR8EAIX-9) was also available a lil while ago. If u manage to get it, its the best deal!(can't find it in their website as its not updated)

Yea, better not to touch the carb settings if the prob is solved with the plug replacement. and K&N is known to damage stock carbs

leaner/richer mixture wont make any such difference, may be this is a speedo error.. but I've been getting these readings for all these years...

                • Issue resolved

                  Hi Team,

I am glad to tell you that the Honda ASC finally resolved my issue. They tuned the carb and now the bike feels wonderful. The pick up is awesome. I am not sure of the fuel efficiency though, but again I don’t care much. I wanted the mix of both. They had messed up with the front fork free play which they fixed after i had been to the place. I had also written to Honda earlier when i was frustrated and they replied back to me asking me to get back to them with the Concerned Dealership name, Vehicle details like - Model, Registration No / Frame No. Date of Purchase.

One thing is very evident. If they want to do they will do it. Fortunately for me it was just another visit at a different ASC where i had been once. I did not speak like an angry customer but again i was rewarded by tuning my bike properly. The engine sound has increased but i care less. May be i was too much expecting the engine to be silent. Other unicorn's also make similar sound.

I am happy. I have also decided to stick to the Honda 10W30 oil. I have 5 year extended warranty on my engine and after a lot of thinking i came to a conclusion that i will have problems claiming the warranty if i use another oil. I don’t want to get in the mess again. And also if Honda has taken a decision to use 10W30 then there must be a good reason behind it. At the end they are the manufacturers. Also i am going to change the spark plug. I don’t have a problem but many recommended changing the spark plug after every 8K kms. I have already changed the air filter.

Just waiting for my work off's so that on one work off i can clean and lube the chain and on my 2nd work off i can go for a ride on Thane Nasik Road.

Till then guys safe and happy riding. Thanks for all your help. I still will be active on the forums though.

Congrats.. Follow the run in properly. Keep it upto 4000 RPM till your first service. Use chalk in morning and always use kick for the first time in a day.
                        What else.. wear safey gears.

                        • guys going for a long trip of around 600kms up and down. using 20w40 grade now, shall i switch to 10w30 for better acceleration? will 10w30 is ok for summer?
i'm getting 60km/h @5000 rpm. isn't it less than what you people are getting? i'm using NGK plug.

                          • Just for info's sake.

My bike when accelerated hard shows 60kmph at 4k RPM, but the same bike when accelerated slow and steadily shows the same reading at 3.5~3.75k RPM. Hence small errors should be ignored. But if a huge margin of error is noticed then suspect clutch wear.

                            • What is the economy speed of unicorn ? Most of the other bikes have marked green in the speedometer. But Uni doesn't have.
How can i install parking light in my unicorn ? How much it costs ? Is the switch for parking light install seperately ??

AFAIK the changes in value depends on clutch plate wear & tear.
When I bought the new bike (Apache 160 HE) it showed 55kmph at 4k rpm & 70kmph for 5k rpm. Now after more than one year it shows 54kmph @ 4k-rpm & 68kmph @ 5k-rpm...
