Issue : Oil leak near exhaust pipe.

I'm not sure what is causing this oil leak near the place where exhaust pipe is connected to the engine. The oil which leaks started to evaporate due to the heat of the exhaust pipe and produced fumes and burning smell whenever I stop the vehicle at a signal. I don't think it is the engine oil leaking as the level hasn't gone down. Any help would appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Two things need to be checked - head cover gasket and head gasket. It looks like head cover gasket. It's hard to differentiate drop in oil level at level indicator window if all leaked oil is less than 50 ml. Check for leaks around the head cover and if possible click some photos of the same and post here.

Before starting today's ride to work(around 20kms in Bangalore):

Looks pretty similar to a Head gasket leak as mentioned above. If you look into the bike from the side gaps in the fairing you should be able to see the area where the head joins the bore of the engine. If any leaks are there it will be pretty evident there as you will find oil deposits around the mating surface.
Also from the image looks like it has been leaking for some time now. Usually a small leak will take quite some time to cause such a huge spill or there is a considerably higher leak which will soon reflect in the oil levels dropping so do make sure to get this looked into and rectified ASAP.

        Cheers

I'm not sure why you don't see it but the area just behind the radiator fan is wet with oil as seen in the pic, so basically the front of the head facing towards the radiator is where the leak seems to be originating and the pattern of the oil spillage onto the exhaust port suggests the direction of the leak as well, the sludge formation because of dirt accumulation is the reason you are seeing it more prominently in that area.

Ohhh okay, I'll take a look again at it. Thanks for the help

Do you have any idea on the impact of this issue or the cause?
Also the price for the fix??

Looks like leak is from the head cover by seeing the pattern of seepage and its flow. It is easy fix in comparison to head gasket replacement. Get it fixed ASAP. Total cost would not be more than 500/- including new cover gasket of 100/-. In case new gasket isn't available at the time of repair, Threebond/Anabond would fix the leak with the same old rubber gasket.

In case of head gasket, which is highly unlikely, it requires plenty of work including removal of engine from chassis. Head gasket price is INR 347/- and labor charge would be around 1000-1500 - whole-day job.

Thanks you so much for the information, will get it fixed by this weekend. Probably shouldn't have ignored it for 2 weeks

In LC engines, as long as you don't have coolant mix with engine oil(happens because of blown head gaskets most of the time) you have no actual effects as long as the oil level is topped up and maintained at optimal level even with an active leak.
But that is just poor habit and is never recommended, because oil leakage can at times cause oil dripping onto parts that are not supposed to have or be in contact with oil and cause problems because of it. So best avoid it.
Right now i'd suggest you get the exhaust gasket area and the head area cleaned as best as you can when the engine is cold with a degreaser(WD40 or Kerosene or something), and observe the leak and see how much it leaks within a day.
Also just to confirm that you don't have coolant mix with oil inspect the oil in the oil level window, it shouldn't be milky or puffy or have frothing in it(ignore the bubbles you see in the engine oil when the engine/oil is hot)

I am not aware of the cost, sorry about that.

I see you are in Bangalore, I'd suggest you get the bike to Highlander at HSR. Karthick works there now, he is the best person in Bangalore to work on CBRs. You can ask him by name and just tell Krishna(White CBR) sent you. My bike gets service by him and him alone ever since '13.

                    Cheers

LC Engines aren't leak friendly, get the gasket/seal changed at the earliest, don't think twice.

Better to change a consumable than to rebuild the engine later.

P.S. Threebond is the way to go, they're available at all MGP Spare outlets, a tube costs 300/-

P.P.S. Never reuse a consumable, they're called consumables for a reason.

A couple of pointers I'd like to add is, don't use sealants to seal them permanently. It leaks because either the gasket is swollen or become hard due to the heating and cooling of the engine, which is a given. So, using sealants on a old gasket means just prolonging it and not actually fixing it. Get the valve cover removed, the mating surfaces cleaned thoroughly, new gasket installed by mildly applying grey gasket maker along the edges of the gasket/o-ring and make sure the valve cover bolts are TORQUED well and you're all set.

Also make sure, you clean that oil goop on the cylinder surface. Too much heat and not washed quickly enough, the oil will be baked by the heat and leave a permanent stain on the cylinder. Not that it matters to everyone, but hey, cleanliness is next to happiness.

The gasket costs 96 bucks odd, a year or so back, that I bought as a back up. Here's the picture.

                        Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                        THE END

                            Guys I newd a help.
My fuel pump motor is behaving erratically.
Sometimes it starts on the first attempt and sometimes it starts after 10-15 attempts.
I have to manually switch off and on the ignition key again and again for it to start. Fuel pump light comes on every time but fuel pump motor does not start every time.

What may be the problem. How can it be solved.
Fuse is OK. Petrol quality is OK.

I would like to start with simple measures before inspectng the fuel pump itself.

                              1. Replace fuel pump relay. Or just interchange both radiator fan and pump relays' positons to see if it makes any difference. If problem gets resolved, replace old one with a new relay. If not, go to step 2.

                              2. There are 3 wires under the ignition switch. Try to remove cap underneath ignition cap and pull each wire gently to check if they are soldered firmly to contact points. Out of 3 wires, one goes to fuel pump. If all wires are intact on their points, go to the end of the cable which ends with a coupler - coupled with wiring harness near the steering neck lying above the rubber flap. You can pull it though space is quite tight there. Spread wd40 in the coupler and rejoin the wiring harness. Neglect over time leads to corrosion in points in sockets and it breaks supply of current.

                              3. Kill switch. Spread wd40 into it. Same corrosion and rust happen due to moisture and it interrupts the supply of current.

If above remedies fail to resolve your problem, you may proceed with pump inspection.
