  • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0

had an interesting ride today....went deep into madhya pradesh in search of empty corners. found them empty alright, but broken, disfigured and too dusty every here and there (and it was a national highway :P). as a result, although couldn't do cornering as fast as i'd have wanted to and as fast as i could have had they been not so dusty and semi-broken, still went fast enough for the conditions to derive a lot of fun riding leaned over mostly at 60-70 kmph through those curves (on a small mountainous region) :-D... subsequently, once that hill passed over, the road went completely broken down into small stones and gravels covered in dust for several kms (still a national highway :P) and me thus having lots of off-road type fun with the rear tyre sliding on that dusty gravelly road with zero traction...despite such bad road around the place that had a bunch of killer curves on those hills, i still liked the place so took snaps of some of those corners (where i will go again a number of times)..a fairly long ride after a long time, and quite a fun-filled one overall with several types of flavours - some nice corners (but mostly disfigured, so sadly incomplete fun there), lots of off-roading fun, and of course the usual highway fun as always...the bike (its suspension) got really abused today yet this awesome thing never gets upset (thankfully)...

again a pulsar (180 i think) rider with no helmet and with a damn pillion tried to race me today...just until 2-3 days ago i was thinking how come no overexcited rider has ever tried to indulge me in a street race, and here i am having faced two pulsar riders with pillion and no helmet attempting to indulge me to race in 2 consecutive days lol...
another new thing that happened in both these 2 days that never happened before (about which i often pondered, because apparently happens with other riders often) was the rear sliding under hard braking of the rear :-D...my front also slid a bit along with the rear, had to brake so hard so late, but it was all under control and not a random uncontrollable screwup...

      Now,
I need to join a rally and i want that Intake sound which feels good untill it bothers to engine just for 1 day,

      The main question is,
If i remove air filter cover, which air filter will keep my engine safe just for 1 day that too the place where i will join that rally is quite good and clean.......(K&N or Stock Filter)

If stock filter does its job good, then why do people buy K&N.

Its just for 1 day, i will never use it for regular use coz i want my R15s engine to be always happy untill i have it.

Does removing cover makes any difference in performance, is there any problem like leaner micture and all?
Sure you can run the bike for one day without the air filter cover, but be ready for an expensive engine overhaul shortly after that. A day's pleasure of sound is going to cost you a big wad of money.

Guys i had a sudden drop of mileage from 40-33kmpl after the service. Only main thing that was done during service was rear brake pad change.. Is it because of new pads settling down?? I mean is it touching the discs as they are new thereby reducing mileage?? This is my lowest from the time i got my bike

What is the life of stock brake pads? I feel like its not as sharp as it was when I rode it for the first 1k kilometers. The bike has run 2.3k odo only. Or does it need some tightening?

P.S. Had a funny incident when I was returning back from a ride today.

Not really, the brake pads should be fine as of now. 2.3k kms is too less for the pads to worn out.
Still, get them checked. With hard braking, they might not be at their best.

            Ride safe and have fun.

I suspect the engine oil level. So Check the engine oil level. If its below the mark top up.

                ^^^ check for these things;
                1. Check if the chain is too tight.
                2. Check if the air filter is clean (while the SVC is suppose to clean, who knows?)
                3. I don't know how much your bike has run, however, as a bike gets older the AFR requirement changes depending on the state of wear in the engine. Therefore check the spark plug and get the AFR set if the reading is off.
                4. Also depending upon your use age and the number of kms covered, check the valve clearances.

Mileage also depends a great deal on the quality of fuel. So check the quality of the fuel you are using.

                  Fuel-Only shell from starting
                  Odo-9000km
Engine oil- 3000km old 300v. Level was fine when i checked 2 weeks back(still dunno how to check exactly )
Tyre pressure- seems alright, but will check tom
Air filter- will check( but i guess it wont block suddenly to drop this much)
                  Chain slack- perfect i guess
Others- Nothing touched till now... No afr check, no valve clearance check.

You need to get the valves checked. You are nearing the recommended valve check interval.

Ok!! Thanks. I though of checking it at next service.... But will do it if i get the same mileage during next fill. 3000 km for 300v is fine right?? Am thinking of stretching it to 3500km. Just now its starting to get harsh a tiny bit

Got the chain sprocket kit replaced this week. Plus changed the 300v and gave a chance to Motul 7100 20W50 as I was unable to get Motul 300v.

This is a 4.5k run 300v. Its still green in colour. A little dark though.
