Go for osram(around 1000 INR) or Philips t10 led(around 1500) if budget doesn't matter.they are reliable. Or pick a pair of your desired colour for less than 100 at any local stores.

The L2 and R2 in my R15-S adjust the horizontal throw but I never got around to fully understand how exactly! They just fock up the throw until you find a sweet spot.

Now that worked well, but it was a major strain on the bike's electrical setup. That was to the point that you could hear the fuel injector's hum die a little bit.
That's a good DIY stuff there, thanks for sharing. However, I have serious doubts on those Chinese LED lamps of no brand, they *can* stop working literally anytime, might leave one stranded in the middle of nowhere at night, but they might work for years without a problem as well.

On the other hand I wanted to know the bold part - My R15S's FI's hissing noise is pretty prominent and members have said its pretty normal. Did you observe a serious lack in that hum? And at idle or on lower gears where you can at least hear that? That's interesting for me to know.

A few people I know who've been using both lights on their v1.0 R15s with stock setup, as they really didn't know low/high beam concept, just wanted full light. They've been fine so far.

True, they can, but that can happen with any bulb, the "being stranded in the middle of nowhere at night" part. They do have some warranty stuff for 6 months I think, where they ask us to upload a video of the light or something, and they send out a replacement. People have claimed they have received replacements as well. Plus I couldn't figure out what the Phillips had that made it 10K more expensive, so I went for the cheaper obvious solution.

Yes with a 60/55W there was a major drop. Although, I've seen on some bikes it's a little louder than the other bikes. Least hear? If my engine noise is louder than that. What do you mean by least hear that?

Rephrasing that - On idle or on a lower speed where "at least" you can hear the hum before the engine sound takes over? I simply meant, is the hum not audible at idle or lower speed itself? I can hear it out loud though.

I've been using OSRAM Hilux 55w as my low beam which I practically use as my DRLs also, since 4 months now. I kept the high beam bulb as stock 35w as I rarely use it in city, only to flash the lunatics getting in my lane. I'm still to experience any serious drop yet, but its good to get others experience on this.

            Regards.

At idle. Once the engine revs it takes over the sound. When the engine is running and you turn on the low beam and turn it off, I can hear the hum drop n then pick up again.

horn on my bike is giving problems.

bike is 6 yrs old. so thought maybe battery is dying. changed to a new amaron but problem persists. whenever i give it for servicing and complain about it, they do something so that it works for about a month. after that it keeps fading till it no longer works.

i suspect culprit is switchgear. its not conducting properly.

can anyone give insight in this issue? also cost for any repair?

                thanks.

Cross posting on the R15 V2 thread for visibility

Ownership update after 6500 KMS in 6 Months:

I have a Spark Green R15S bought in late October 2016. The bike has been maintained religiously with chain lubing/paint waxing/air pressure done every 300-500 KMS as necessary. No trouble given by the machine yet. Took it on two long rides so far. (Ahmedabad-White Rann of Kutch & Ahmedabad-Rajkot-Gir Forest) the engine seems bulletproof and cruises easily at 115 KM/H all day long. Ride quality is highly commendable for such a tiny motor.

                  Small Comparo with Dominar 400:
This weekend I swapped rides with one of the Dominar 400 riders in my group and rode it for about 90 KMS on the Highway; Although the torque and top speed were way beyond the R15's league the Dominar has some very prominent vibes above 110 KM/H or 6000 RPM.I sorely missed the smoothness of the engine and the precise throttle input of the R15. Not trying to defame the Dominar by any means but there is a clear 0.2-0.3 second lag in fueling when compared, but for someone who hasn't had the chance to ride these bikes back to back it will be difficult to notice.

                  Parts replaced so far:
                  • Left Fairing Panel- Once (Small crash in the first month)
                  • Right Fairing Panel- Once (Not so small slide in the third month)
                  • Right RVM- Once
                  • H/L Assembly- Once (Some idiot hit me from the front)
                  • Headlight Cowl- Once
                  • Gear Shift Pedal- Once
                  • Brake Lever/Clutch Lever- Once

                  Issue that I am facing:
So I was in for an unpleasant surprise yesterday when I checked the oil level in the engine (Usually I check oil level every 500 KMS). Came back from a 150 KMS ride and let the engine cool down for a bit. Put the bike on temporary center stand & unscrewed the oil level dipstick, wiped it clean, reinserted and was startled to see the oil barely touch the minimum mark. The oil was replaced just 900 KMS ago O_O. Now I do understand that nominal oil evaporation of about 100-150 ML is acceptable at 2K-3K kms, but this seemed way more than that. There was no indication of this from the sound of the engine or engine smoothness.I saw some oil smeared near the drain bolt, but that could have been due to the excess chain lube on the front sprocket.

Decided to take the bike to SVC and have the oil drained & measured, since the bike is relatively new & covered under warranty. I explained the issue to the head mechanic and he agreed to measure the quantity of drained oil before we arrive to any conclusions. It came up to around 650 ML , thus my suspicion was sadly spot on. We were left scratching our heads as to how come so much oil evaporated/leaked in just about 900 KMS?

What I want to know from fellow members here is:

                  1. Riding on about 650 ML of oil would have done any permanent damage to the engine? (The oil was a mucky dark black color but i couldn't find any metal bits or particles in it)
                  2. Has anyone faced such a drop in engine oil levels on their R15?
                  3. Is it possible for the Oil drain bolt to become loose on its own ?

At the moment I have refilled 1 Litre of fresh Yamalube Sporty Premium 10W40 in the engine and will be keeping a careful watch on the oil level every 250-300 kms to see if it drops any further. Fingers crossed it could have been a fluke or maybe the mechanic didn't change the oil on last service. But the only way I can think of oil leaving the engine is through blown piston rings or a loose drain bolt. And if that is the issue then the SVC shall fix it under warranty.

Hoping that my R15-S won't have sustained any long term damage as I have no plans to part with it anytime soon and wish to do thousands of kms of riding happily on this gem of motorbike that I can't get enough of.

Please offer any insights or pointers that I should watch out for!

                  Thank you,

My first point of suspicion is the svc guys didn't really change/fill the oil last time and took you for a ride. Trust me this happens more often than we think because not everyone cares to cross check all these things after a service.

On another note, when you put your bike on side stand for a few hours or overnight, do you observe any oil leakage from any joint or bolt?

On a third note, its getting moronically hot in here (43 c in Pune) and we can expect the oil consumption to be a little more than usual but yours seem like an unusual drop.

Lets wait for others to provide their inputs as well.

                    Regrads.

What RPM range do you usually run the bike?

I've owned two R15's in the past. Both consumed oil when ridden regularly in the 7-10k RPM range. When the engine was new, a top up was required every 800-1000 km for this kind of riding, progressively requiring more frequent top ups with accumulated miles. Both bikes were finished by around 25k km. The oil consumption would suddenly peak and one day when i open the oil filler, i would discover to my horror that the oil level has fallen below the bottom mark and that would be it. After that there is rapid deterioration. I don't know much about engines but just from my experience at 650ml i am sorry to say but i suspect there could be some engine damage (depending on how many miles you have covered & how hard you rode with low oil). You'll have to wait and see.

(BTW, i did get a top end & CP rebuild done on my second bike but that did not help at all, in fact i'd say it went further downhill after that. This is almost certainly down to the incompetence of the mechanics at the service center but that is a practical reality.)

I doubt this was the case in this instance. As I was in a hurry the last time I picked up my bike from 3rd service and did not check the Oil as usually this one is a reliable SVC in my experience.

On another note, when you put your bike on side stand for a few hours or overnight, do you observe any oil leakage from any joint or bolt?

Nope, no leakage from the crank case seals/joints or the bolt after today's oil change. The bike has been stationary for about 8 hours now.

On a third note, its getting moronically hot in here (43 c in Pune) and we can expect the oil consumption to be a little more than usual but yours seem like an unusual drop.

I agree its sweltering hot in Gujarat as well, which could justify a slight increase in oil consumption. But usually I only get time to ride in early mornings or late evenings due to office work

Lets wait for others to provide their inputs as well.

I agree. But I am hoping this is a one off odd occurring as I tend to take care good care of my bikes and don't abuse them off their limits.

My riding is a split of 40% City and 60% Highway rides.

In the city I like to keep the bike in the 5K-7K RPM range, and shift at around 7K RPM in 4,5,6 gears and about 4-5 K RPM for the lower gears.

On the highway I run the 6th gear between 7K-8K RPM (between 100-110 KM/H) and upshift at about 8500 RPM in all other gears.

I will be keeping a closer look on my oil consumption until the next service and hope that it does not drop too much since it is a fairly new engine.

I will need to have a word with the Service manager regarding this, also from now I will make sure they change the Oil in my presence. Can't trust the SVC technicians. *sigh*.

Also to add on the above points, can you confirm which oil those guys are putting in your bike - the current Yamalube FS or the SS one? Doesn't harm to check this as well.

Sorry to say if there are no leaks and you lose 350ml in 900 kms then your engine is toast.
I would suggest re ringing the engine after checking the liner for scores.
If there are marks on the liner then the bore has gone "Hallelujah". In latter case change bore piston rings and all.
Redo the valve seals and put in new valves too.
If you had used the garbage motul 300V I would have said that it's oil but as I can make out you are using a decent oil .
Can be atmosphere too but again it won't be this much.
I stayed with R15 in Bhubaneswar for 3 years with summer temps reaching 44 46 degrees often and I use to commute to office in peak traffic. Never had this bad of an oil evaporation issue.

Hello everyone. My friend and i had a pretty bad accident a couple of days back on our r15. Luckily both of us were wearing helmets and both of us are fine but the bike's body is gone.

The front plastic is loose now with fractures and also the rear panels came out loose and they broke( they were like broken before as well and luckily we didn't get them changed before the accident)

So I'd like to know how much it might cost. Especially the plastic below the rear seat. It maybe fine if we don't change the front.

So somebody please tell me how much it might cost to get the whole body kit( almost) or the rear ones.

And also, please let me know the best place to get it fixed. I live in Hyderabad near tarnaka.

                                Thanks!
