Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
See motul or no motul 4.5k kms is too much for a bike with such low oil capaicity. This won't affect when the engine is new but as it gets old every engine wears out and oil is the only thing that supports it. Changing oil under prescribed intervals makes sure that oil viscosity remains up to the mark and helps take a bit of load off the engine parts. 4.5k kms is asking for trouble in a commuter engined bike like R15.Originally posted by vijaycool View PostI am feeling nervous after reading those line. When I drained the oil at 25.5k kms it was around 600ml oil. This was the second oil change with Motul 7100 but the oil has run close to 5500 kms. Prior to that I have collected 900 ml for 4500 km ran Motul oil. Replaced with Yamaha FS oil now need to keep an eye on oil level. If its fine then Motul is thrown away from my oil list for good and forever.
Secondly the parts quality have gone down that's why I have stocked a pre blue core bore piston kit(~10000 bucks) just in case.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Its all due to my running. 3k is very short interval and I have to replace oil for every 40 days. Currently I am using 10w40 what will be the ideal odometer reading to switch to 10w50 oil. Are the pre blue core engine block imported from Indonesia/Japan? Where can i find oneOriginally posted by black asp View PostSee motul or no motul 4.5k kms is too much for a bike with such low oil capaicity. Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
I run around 2000-2500 kms in 30 40 days and I change oil twice a month. The result is visible. 1.3 lakh with a ring change. I never use any oils above 500 bucks. Using shell ax7 10w40 or motul 5100. Motul 7100 and other hi fi oils are out of equation.Originally posted by vijaycool View PostIts all due to my running. 3k is very short interval and I have to replace oil for every 40 days. Point is there is just 1 ltr of oil and that gets bad easily when u compare it with a bike like cbr250 which has 1.6 ltr of oil.
Junking oil frequently is the only option.
Yeah the pre blue core rings were different. I have seen blue core rings
.They look flimsy and quality difference is visible.
Can't say about availability right now.
Got it in 2015 when the blue core engine was introduced.

When did R series get blue core ? Thats news to me. I havent seen any ad or mentions anywhere on the net regarding blue core for R series. All except the R's have blue core stickers as well.Originally posted by black asp View PostI run around 2000-2500 kms in 30 40 days and I change oil twice a month. Close friends new R15 also was running through rr unit issue. All service centres across Bangalore charges the battery and gives back, how much ever time I mentioned its not the battery. Took it to Kerala, showed it to a trusted mech , changed the RR unit and all is well now. Bike is an year old with ECU already changed under warranty.
My 2012 v2 always ran perfect . New lots are very much worrying.Last edited by Ivin; 04-25-2017, 03:48 PM.Ride, ride and ride.. But always do it responsibly..

If you see the part number of rings of old R15 rings and post 2014 is different. The prices have gone down too and so does their feel. Yeah my nomenclature may be wrong but the parts have changed and that's what matters.

Well RR failing is a common issue with the single phase R15 models.Originally posted by Ivin View PostWhen did R series get blue core ? Thats news to me. I havent seen any ad or mentions anywhere on the net regarding blue core for R series. All except the R's have blue core stickers as well.

The RR is placed on top of headlights with no ventilation hence they overheat and go bust.
Me and my friend did a small DIY and mounted the RR unit with a small clamp near the horns so that it gets adequate air. It's holding up good till now.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
wouldn't the dust accumulation affect the heat dissipation? RR units are usually placed where water won't reach.Originally posted by black asp View Post

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
In case of CBR150 it's right near the left bottom part of fairing and exposed to dust and water. If your connectors are secured tightly no issues with that. In older R15 and R15 v2 it was near the air filter and dust used to accumulate. So dust accumulation hardly matters. We didn't document the DIY but it was a straight job take the wiring harness from the rectifier and mount the RR unit near the horn with a small clamp and tie down the wire using zip ties.Originally posted by christo View Postwouldn't the dust accumulation affect the heat dissipation? Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
RR unit should be placed in well ventilated spot. In cbr150 RR unit is placed on left side, above the horn. Where it gets adequate airflow. Besides of that, Whenever i ride my cbr150 for 10-15 minutes, RR unit becomes very hot.Originally posted by black asp View PostWell RR failing is a common issue with the single phase R15 models.

Then i think of RR unit of R15 model's. Which is placed in zero ventilated area.
They will surely bust after overheat.
As black asp suggested, do the mod and place RR unit near the horns. This will surely eliminate the RR unit failing problem in R15 models.Live To Ride✌

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Since faulty RR issues are being discussed, Would uprgrading to a 5amp battery cause the problem?
Another querry, Can I use this http://www.amazon.in/3M-Choke-Carb-C.../dp/B015OJJQXI (3M Choke & Carb cleaner) to clean the fuel injector of R15?

No don't think so. Running 5 ah battery since 4 years.Originally posted by Andy_kristine View PostSince faulty RR issues are being discussed, Would uprgrading to a 5amp battery cause the problem?

If you are taking out the injector and cleaning it then I would say yes use it. I use wd40 to clean injectors. If you plan on adding it to the tank with petrol then I would say no. I would refrain from putting a powerful degreaser in tank no matter what anybody says.

When it comes to respecting old customers Yamaha leads by a lot of margin. If you have decided R15s then go for it. No issues regarding support
