Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
oh my dilemma...8-9k kms is really too less..i know it can differ with riding styles and road conditions etc, but it appears very unlikely that i'll get even 12k out of it..Originally posted by black asp View PostYeah very much but not worth it given the lack of life span

I used Revz S all through out apart from one time when I used PSDOriginally posted by aditya_YZF-R15 View Postyeah looks like i will have to go for the stock MRF rear itself...do you know among the various MRF options for the R15 (apart from the stock rev-z they offer some others) which one might be better in terms of grip without having such a less life ?Yamaha RXZ 5 speed (sold)

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Since black asp you have done extensive riding on your bike for a long time now. This is testament to show how good the stock rubber on R15 is, unlike some bikes in a segment above, where the first thing I would think of upgrading are the tires (Conti-Nos and Euroslips, Remora, etc)Originally posted by black asp View PostI used Revz S all through out apart from one time when I used PSD
aditya_YZF-R15Originally posted by aditya_YZF-R15 View Postshit, really ? 8k is too less...both tyres went bald so soon ?
i am just really looking for a more grippy rear tyre...the stock front's grip is great, i don't necessarily want to change that, but the stock rear IMO leaves me wanting for more...
Mate the R15 is a front-weight biased bike attributing to its super-sport lineage, so rear tire grip will always feel a bit lacking compared to the front, As the moment you touch the brakes or lean on the handlebars, most of the bikes weight will go on the Front tire, so no matter how soft/sticky the Tyre compound is; Traction can only exist if there is sufficient weight/friction between the tire and road surface.
When you say you need more grip from the Tyre. Are you facing problems where the rear tire starts spinning out of control when you try to accelerate or corner on asphalt/concrete in 1st/2nd gear? Because IMHO 17 NM of torque and the (relatively) puny 150cc engine is just not enough to cause wheel-spin on the R15 under normal riding conditions.
However I have experienced Wheel-spins on my friend's Dominar 400 which has 35 NM of torque (almost double) although it has a beefy 150/70.17 profile Tyre. Which is a very unnerving experience in itself.
Sorry for the long analogy, but my intention is to simplify your dilemma.
Best advise is, stick to what the Yammie engineers have researched and recommended. They have invested a lot in R&D of this bike and I'm sure they have selected appropriate tires for our machines. (Can't say the same for every bike though).
Cheers! Safe Riding!

yamahamann seconded in all your above points 17ps power is not enough to exploit the current tyres to its fullest. Psd and Michelin radials will be nothing more than wastage of money imho

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
My vote goes for the stock tires they are the best ..
Stick with RevzS even if you get the zapper S for less price ..
Done around 33k and can say Stock is best 👍☺>>>>Beware of Zombies<<<<

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
Guys a piece of advice. If your bike has run considerable kms or is more than 2 years old I would suggest changing pistons for the front brakes or the oil seals atleast if you feel the pistons are fine. My front brake was seizing after a couple of liberal dosage to the front brake and please use rubber grease for lubing your sliders and calliper boots. Rubber grease is expensive another cheap alternative is dalda ghee. Never ever use bearing grease on rubber parts. They become hard and crack and will lead to rusting of the slider pins.
Most of the morons in SVC use normal grease for lubing rubber parts.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 version 2.0
yamahamann - yes it's true that being a front oriented bike like any other sportsbike-type bike, the rear will always feel lacking in noticeable feeling...but given the fact that there is a room for improvement in everything, i wondered if a more sticky rear tyre will yield better feedback from the rear...that's pretty much the only reason i thought of considering going for softer rear tyre...and while it's true that a grippier rear will of course give better feeling, the fact that their life would be much much lesser than what i prepared my mind for is why i think i'll anyway go for the stock ones after all..at best maybe i will try out MRF's masseter which supposedly has decent life with better grip but it is a wider 140/70 tyre which i am a bit sceptical of trying out (and it's likely worse than the stock in wet), so again at the end i guess i'll continue with stock...
there's been no history of wheel spin at the rear while entering or exiting corners, at least not big enough to worry about and forever register in memory...i just wanted a rear that offers more grip/feeling at corners while also having decent life possibility...being in terribly congested, inconsistent (quality-wise) and flat UP roads, i very rarely get any opportunity to attempt a half-decent moderate cornering, but when i do, the rear tyre leaves me wanting for much more feeling, that's all...it does slip and slide a bit under modest acceleration even at a very modest lean more often than not, but i happen to enjoy that (:P) (no fun in cornering if there's not at least a bit of slide at the rear)..but still, more feeling would have been nice...
the stock rear is otherwise great of course...in fact, at 24.5k kms at the odo, the rear still has a lot of life left in it (the front not so much, maybe at most 1k kms with utmost care under questionable road and traffic conditions) and from day one til today offers great confidence in maneuvering bad roads via the rear and in wet and in high speed stability etc...
so yeah, anyway i think i'll continue with the stock rear..can't delay changing tyres any longer anyways.Last edited by aditya_YZF-R15; 08-05-2017, 08:24 PM.

yesOriginally posted by black asp View PostWow that's quite a wait
just waiting for a few things in the professional side of life...how those things pan out will decide if/when i buy some 300...sometimes get a strong urge to just go buy some 300 right now, ride it for the next 2-3 years and then deal with whatever pans out at that time..also feel very sad about the thought of leaving my R15 at some point or the other....maybe like many of you guys i'll not sell my old bike and keep it as well for memory's sake
