Hero Impulse ownership experience

hey guys i have been thinking about forming a group of all the mumbai based impulse owners. coz like me some of u might have come up with the idea of going offroad on ur impulse on weekends and anyways its always better to have a group to ride along with when u go for offroading. (coz i personally feel its a bit too risky to go offroading alone) so guys who are interested to join such a group plz let me know. we can also share our ideas about places where u can go for a good offroading and our experiences and even check out each others bikes and know about different changes done by different people on their bikes. people who dont have an impulse but any outher kind of dirt bikes are also welcome.

Hi all, Im planning to get an impulse ASAP.
Before I do, I want to make sure that I know its faults and niggles well. Ive been following this thread since day1; so Id like to know if there's any issue about this bike has been left unsaid.
Next, has anyone done some hard and fast offroading? Ive been through harikeshpk's thread and thats a good indicator of its ability to take a beating....but the question is: how consistently can it take a good offroad beating (rocky paths, small jumps et al) without the suspension and wheels giving up?
So it'd be helpful if anyone can share an account of some long distance off roading on this. Or maybe any reports of the guy\s who participated in the desert storm 2012 on the impulse.
Also, how well can the chassis and suspension take jumps?.....say 3-4 feet jumps. Anyone tried it out?
Finally, is the non-adjustability of the rear suspension going to be a problem? How does the rear generally feel?
It would be a nice, reassuring push for me to get the bike if anyone can answer these questions.

go get it tiger !
it cant do 3-4 ft jumps w/o breaking down. 1/2 ft jumps can be done. its not a dirt bike but a transroader . the chassis ,suspension and wheels arent strong to handle big jumpssigpicThe Moto Cafe - India's first bike theme cafe @ Chandni Chowk

Thanks for the push. definitely getting it....but a few clarifications would ease my mind in those regards. Im confused if this just a commuter with dual sport pretensions or a dual sport in a commuter's disguise.Originally posted by niks_devil666 View Postgo get it tiger !

I think it should be able to manage more than a 1\2 foot jump....thats the size of a small ruler. I regularly manage atleast 1\2 foot of air over some speedbreakers, on my suzuki gs150r. Its taken the beatings in its stride since the last 4000 km.

its a 150 cc , so definitely not a commuter. for me , its a trail riding 150 cc super moto bike . not mx or a dirt bikesigpicThe Moto Cafe - India's first bike theme cafe @ Chandni Chowk

got a chance to ride the track in Coimbatore astride my Impuse. I was pretty impressed with the way it handles on the curves..........though on the straight it can get pretty boring...reached a top whack of 110kmph on the straight with a crouch....it goes without saying that every other bike (the least powerful one on the track was a R15) was lapping it......if we can extract about 18bhp on this engine, it would be very interesting.

Satyen and Niks, if possible meet this guy and check how good it is.
met some folks in Coimbatore who had fitted on the Karizma engine onto the Impulse, but the Impulses front fronks aren't able to handle the additional power that the Karizma engine throws up.

On 28th Jan, I skipped office and went for offroading with my friend. The only good photo he clicked is this...
Same is the case with me , all the people I know are against it ... they are stuck onto bhp and top speed figures where as for me this will be my 2nd bike. The bhp and top speed on my first bike are more than sufficient for Indian roads.Originally posted by southpaw View PostGot my Impulse yesterday.. after some weeks of thinking, reading xBhp, went for it.. though most people advised me against it, still something about this bike it struck a chord with me

yeah, whoever's stuck onto bhp and top speed comparisons probably doesnt realise its competently fast upto 80-90 kmph, which is more than enough for city use. Their loss....we will be happily bombing the streets and dirt on this.Originally posted by niks_devil666 View PostSame is the case with me , all the people I know are against it ... they are stuck onto bhp and top speed figures where as for me this will be my 2nd bike.
I just hope its going to be a laxmi bomb than a bijli.
Nobody here ever talked about where the meat of the torque is on this bike...is it low down or in the middle rpms? or is it evenly spread?
Ah, the damn guy captures all the boring things and loses focus when things get interesting. Cant be 5-6 ft, looks a bit lower, maybe 4 ft. I think the guy was supposed to ease it down the ramp, but instead, he jumped it.Originally posted by niks_devil666 View Postsee the jump at the end of video . It must be atleast 5/6 ft.
Its a good sign that he and the bike maintained composture after the jump. Cant wait to get my hands on the bike.Last edited by 2strokerama; 03-31-2012, 11:26 PM.

i dont know if it is just happening to my bike , but i am experiencing an engine overheating problem. I took it to the service centre but the guys told me to change the engine oil so i did it but still the problem exists, i really dont know what to do now and due to dis i don't feel like riding my bike now a days, i am thinking of taking my bike once again to the service centre and if they are not able to help me dis time i guess i will write a written complaint to the hero moto corp. on their website........
I hope none of the other impulse owners experience dis problem....
