          • Hi everyone!! I wish to buy an Impulse bike, but there are some problems, that I wanted to discuss.

            First and foremost is the mudflap for the front wheel. Is there a need for the same and if yes, has anyone tried sth for it?

            Second, is there any major problem in the engine? I have observed from this thread that there is an issue with the gear slipping, the noise from the front handle bar and some heating issue in engine. Are these for real and to what extent.

            Third, Please tell me any other issue that you are facing.

            Fourth, Has anyone tried this bike for +500kms route and on any mountainous trek. How did the bike and the engine respond. Were there any issues.

            I have planned to buy this bike within this week, and will go for it unless there is some serious concern. Would really appreciate a true response. It would be very helpful.

              1.we discussed this sometime back on the thread. Untill rains r here noone is certain if we wud really require it.
              2.on the right leg , u will feel heat coz the exhaust goes pretty close to it. If u wear riding pants,u wudnt notice that. No other heating problem. While going over potholes the front does make some noise but nothing feels odd and most of us are fine with it. I have never faced any gear slippage till date.

              4.never done that.have done a lot of off roading and jumps here and there. The bike is a gem.

              • Can someone please develop a solution for the big HOLE between the 1st and 2nd gear ratios? For example, can the gears be replaced with those from the NXR Bros? This bike is a nightmare to ride in slow moving traffic. Why did Hero have to go and change the gear ratios???

                  Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done. We can play with the final drive ratio but that would affect the entire ride-ability. Yes NXR Bros gearbox should fit. Hero has messed up the gearing ratio big time for want of better fuel economy.

                    I am also dreaming to have long rides on Impulse ... The longest ride I have done in a day on Impulse so far is aprox 450 KM. It is fun on the highways since our highways (specially state highways) have almost all the obstacle that you can find on off the road .

                    I could not tried any but there are some mods in my mind...

                    1. More power, by swaping engine to P200 or P220 or Karizma ZMA. I am not sure which engine will be best powerful for this dirt bike.
                    2. Brighter light by perhaps HID or extra fog lamps.
                    3. Bigger fuel tank.
                    4. Soften rear suspension. I hate the rear jumping like a frog (as in the below picture).

                    Overall my idea is to make it a bike which I can ride any where (on/off road), any distance (very long distance too), any time (day or night, i.e. need good lights).

                    The front suspension behaves very well on small speedbrakers but the rear suspension seems to be very tight (considering no pillion) and it shoots the rear end quite high. I really tried different techniques of riding but still not able to gain confidence. Can I swap the rear suspension with any softer one???

                    • modding the impulse would be fun, but it will spoil the bike esp if you tamper with the engine. fitting a karizma engine may feel sweet, but it carries quite some bitterness too. the CG of the bike gets changed, means the balanced ride quality goes. off road stability goes. eg: while climbing a steep incline the heavier engine may just lift your front wheel more than required, and same when you come down ( your back wheel may lift up ) etc etc.

                      increased heat from engine is sure to toast you up. the bike is not designed for high speed road riding. so it may not be a good idea to ride the bike over 100 kph and get a sure footed stop if you have to panic brake.

                      still you get some kick out of modding and that's all to it. you cannot make your impulse a BMW simply by an engine swap.

                      and to top it all the impulse is the cheapest off roading bike with a quality in propotion to the 70 k i have paid. so i will enjoy the menu without too much salt and pepper.

                        I really need to know further on what you have said above. How heavier are the engines of P220 and Karizma ZMA if you compare with the existing Impulse engine??

                          • attended the hero impulse camp at delhi today... hero managers, plant engineers and senior ppl were there.. snacks, drinks and complete wash, polish, inspection and tuning etc of the bike and if any impulse owner had any specific issue they rectified..
                            then gave a 20 minute 1-on-1 interview survey regarding the product and service i m getting frm the dealer.. and my suggestions and desired modifications they should introduce in the bike..

                            good event but had a bad day twice was stopped by traffic police and bastard took 200 bribe, giving reason i don't have original RC+license only a color photocopy..

                                it is the centre of gravity not the weight. the bikes frame design and the engine structure, mount points etc has to be in perfect sync to give you a balanced ride. in case of impulse it is more a case of the frame tailor made for the current engine structure.

                                what ever mode is done to upset this is going to adversely impact the handling of the bike.

                                we don't have the infrastructure of the MOTO GP racing teams to fool around the way they want with the bikes, and improve upon the already excellent machines.

                                let me repeat , i am not against mods. i have played my share of games on doing all these. but i can assure you the mods will spoil some attributes of the bike to gain in one or two attributes. it is trade off. but all the best for the prospective modders and keep posting updates.
