  • Guys i found many of user have query on how to accurately calculate Mileage, here's an every easy TIP just use an APP for it, I'm Using MILEAGE 3.1.0 App on Android to record my Fuel consumption details its good check it out. we can also keep track of Service interval in it.

And there are numerous such App available for free on android and i think the same must be available on other mobile platforms also.

P.S. The fuel gauge was an important point of discussion. Mr. Pingle did share a view of one of their internal charts with us.
Apparently at 2 bars, there is 1.5 to 2.5 Liters in the tank.
    From there onwards
    3 bars = 3 L
    4 bars = 4 L
    5 bars = 5 L
    6 bars = 6 L
    7 bars = 7 L
    8 bars = 8 L
    9 bars = 9+ L (full tank)

Once you get your Low Fuel warning, you have safely around 25-30 kms to find fuel.
    Good Info...
But Man i find fuel gauge meter is showing incorrect data. I had run of 424 Km till now, refilling pattern is : first after 56 Km then at 317Km (Tank Full each time) and got 30Km/L, descent in city traffic. as per the pattern i have run in of 107 Km within city thereafter that means approx fuel consumption must be 3 Ltr+. with 10.5Ltr tank, there must be 7.5 ltr of fuel that means 7 bar on Fuel gauge but its showing 8 or sometime full 9 bars....

During my previous tank full run also, upto approx 200Km on ODO (150 on Trip) the fuel gauge was having 8 bars and then suddenly the fall in each bar was more gradual at every 20Km

Any of guys on these forum has noted the same?

I am yet to see above 50 kmpl on the 'real time fuel efficiency indicator'. The lesser you wring the throttle in gear, the higher the reading it will show. However it will also give you an average read for the whole trip as well. I did a couple of stretches, and when I tanked up and checked, the odo showed 31kmpl, and I got around 32 kmpl. So it was pretty much the same. ........
Well from that point of view it's not an OT, but still we better concentrate on other problems and experiences about Duke. Would love to hear your experience also.

Don't worry; just ride your bike between 40 - 70 for some 9 - 10 Kms on a good road(with less traffic ofcourse) without using clutch and brake and avoid sudden acceleration; you'll see the Magic figures (50 - 60 KMPL). I have seen mileage from 17 - 60 depending upon road condition and traffic. Even though I can trust the 17 KMPL, but it's a bit tough for me to digest the 60 KMPL. As long as it gives anything around 35 - 40 on average, I am Happy. BTW the console doesn't show you the average mileage; it's the average speed. The console calculates the fuel consumption over some 800 - 1000 mtrs stretch and shows the mileage.

Done my first service today. Bike get's heated up as used to be. But the 'stressed' and 'suffocating' behaviour is really less today. However, the engine sound still felt as rough to me during that time.

Good info. When we met Mr. Pingle he may have forgotten to explain that thing to us.

Never expect a butter smooth engine from KTM as weel as Duke. The Japs have a patent over that thing . However, definitely it is not harsh. Actually it's a short geared high rev engine producing high power, so it behaves accordingly. The engine sounds a bit rough, but that's the KTM. So no complain from my side.

How does the Mobile App help in this case? The user only can observe and record the amount of fuel used for a trip and the distance travelled. I am sure the user only can input the fuel consumption details and the distance travelled details? If you have these two data with you, it's just a work of a mobile phone calculator to calculate the mileage. What we were trying to discuss here about the FE is which method is the best to capture the data accurately. calculation is pretty simple.

        • My first long distance ride with "the duke". Bangalore to Mangalore, 380kms in 8 hrs. Not a hint of back ache which was a given with my previous bike, Apache 160. God I'm in love. I can cruise all day @80km/hr.
50 kmpl was the number after full-tank method and the console was bang on. And a Fortuner slowed down to take a glimpse of my parked bike. :-)

              • New KTM Showroom in Delhi??

Was just going to the market and saw this new board of KTM Lajpat Nagar.

Stopped and enquired furthur. Guess it will open in another 10-15 days.

Also, found out that a new workshop will come up in Okhla soon.

This might improve KTM's visibility and service network in Delhi.

Yes a simple calculator can do so but you need to remember the ODO of your last refill or one will reset the trip. The app can keep history of your refills & consumption, that make it easy to compare your rides...

Further this post was for the person who were having query on how to calculate mileage.

                    • Has anyone come across a whining sound under braking? I only have this sound upon application of the front brake.
I think it could be the brake bedding in. Is this so? My Odo reads 200 kms.

How long do the brakes usually take to bed in? The braking performance doesn't seem to suffering however.

I'm at 2300kms ODO but I still have that wheezing sound when I brake (mostly from the front discs)
It was common even on my previous (temporary) ride, the pulsar 135LS. I think its a Bajaj "thing" BUT braking is phenomenal!!!
Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

I agree, its very irritating. I am not sure what the problem could be. I haven't come across this on my other bikes Yam FZ-s and Tvs Apache RTR 160.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can help us on this.

I doubt its a "Bajaj" thing. The brakes are by Bybre on the Duke and I'm sure they aren't Bybre on the 135LS.
The braking is fantastic however. I have to brake later than I usually do on the other bikes.

Has anyone else noticed how riding this bike somehow makes the "posers" wild and causes them to ride rashly around you? In a short 50 km ride, I came across atleast 6 of such mental cases on the road.
Live to ride.. ride to forget..

Well a disc makes this characteristic whirring noise because of the ventilation holes provided. Its actually the sound of your brake pads rubbing away during contact with the disc around the holes. Its supposed to be like music to any biker
Also this happens only with light braking. As you increade the braking pressure on the lever, then sound reduces .. As far as other bikes go, the sound is there but probably much lesser. Ride an r15 and the brakes will whirr happily under light braking. And as far as braking is concerned, r15 is the boss. Not starting a brand war. Its just a comparo for understanding ..
Once the pads are worn out there will be a grinding sound. Thats when youll need to worry. So chill out, its normal AFAIK. Please feel free to correct me if im wrong ..

                              • Bike saddles in bangalore?

Have had the duke for almost 2 months now. A great piece of machinery Ihave to say. But I ve come across 2 cons if I can call them that.
                                1. The palm rests/grips are way too hard (Easily corrected by using a pair of gloves)
                                2. The seat, though well shaped and of very nice material, is a bit too hard for my taste. Gets really uncomfortable after a full hour of city riding.

So 1 can be taken care of easily as I have mentioned. But the 2nd one I am yet to solve. Do you guys know any shop in Bangalore or an online shop which sells good Gel/Silicon saddles/seat covers?..
