Do not run the bike in that condition, it will damage the piston / cylinder. Get in touch with your ASC ASAP.

Joel, this sounds unfortunate as a new engine behaves in such a way. petrol may be one of the culprit. Confirm if it is 91 Octane that you are using. try shell super if it is available.Originally posted by joel_sherly View Post

Me too facing similar kind of experience. The Grunt in the engine is not there and the engine exhaust note seems soft(Refined kind of).I doubt whether it is the characteristics of the engine once the engine is run in.I have done 2133 Kms on my bike.Originally posted by joel_sherly View Postmy duke is two months old and has completed the first service..
I noticed a considerably reduced throttle response when compared to the usual one and also noticed that the bike knocked more often...
does it have to do with the petrol quality or is it some other issue.. I have never experienced these before.
The engine stalling problem still persists on my bike.Currently Owned

Ashutosh..Originally posted by ashutosh_xThat was a nice message by you bro!! ....
All said and done...my message(s) in the past at least ensured that you came firing on all cylenders and thus made the thread have the much needed entertaining spark.
nice of you to keep your cool.. obvious entertainment as long as it doesn't hurt anyone..
I don't think its right to prohibit someone from sharing their experiences or opinions, just because they don't own the bike. Mountain doesn't own the Duke yet.. however, his plethora of knowledge on the Machines does help us newbies a lot.

What fuel have you been using ? Did you run-in the bike as per manual or motoman method ?
Navaroj, what engine oil have you put in at first service ?
As for engine stalling, could you point out as to what makes it happen. Remember duke is a high revving short stroke engine, so there is lots of engine braking, which tends to bring down the rpm quickly when we close the throttle. With practice you will come to know that around 15-20 kmph, engine tends to stall in most gears, so either pull the clutch or change to lower gear and rev it a bit. It stalling is connected to some other issue, ask your ASC.Last edited by Janesh.J; 07-11-2012, 04:56 PM.30+ YEARS OF RIDING

I agree with this.. Even though a person does not own a Duke, he still can help with his knowledge of bikes just like @Mountain does.Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostAshutosh..

Help from those who have lots of experience is always welcome. But there should be a line between experience & grape wine. There have been lots of instances where someone is reading about an issue in one thread & posting it in another, which keeps replicating in all forums & then some poor soul thinks that this bike is made up of issues only.Originally posted by devil_rider View PostI agree with this.. Also, this is not a thread to compare bikes.

the engine breaking subsides after 2 and more oil changes. At least in my case has happened. The exhaust note too changes and takes a bit of refined character than the earlier wild screaming banshee note. This has been confirmed by numerous owners I have met at the svc
However regarding the knocking thing, my bike doesn't knock, but there is this occasional cough/hiccup which I hear when downshifting from 4th and 3rd. I thought this may be due to dirty airfilter or a mapping issue.
Air filter was cleaned and the ECU diagnostic tool was used by the regional technical head to check if my ECU is alright(actually he used it on my bike to teach the functions and how to check various ecu parameters/error codes to a newbie technician, so everything was checked.Lucky me
). Nothing was found faulty.
So don't know what the issue is or if this is a normal behaviour. The problem is the occurrence of the slight hiccup like exhaust sound is not frequent and hence have not been able to demonstrate it to the mechs at the svc.
The lack of pull issue I had reported earlier has miraculously vanished now.I hope I do not have it again. The hero always RIDES into the sunset!

Right from day 1 i am using shell super only.Engine oil is MOTUL 7100 FS.After this issue the next day i tool it to the ASC.The guys there checked it and said that everything is normal.Below is the list of Check-ups,Originally posted by Janesh.J View PostAlso as devil_rider mentioned, do visit your ASC and get their opinion too.

1. Combustion chamber pressure - 11.5 Kgf/cm2 (163 PSI).They told that the
normal is between 10~13 Kgf/cm2.
2.In,Ex valve clearance.Inlet - 0.09 mm(spec.0.08 ~0.12mm and Exhaust -
0.18 mm (Spec. 0.17~0.2 mm)
3.Any malfunction in the ECU was checked with the diagnostic tool and
nothing was recorded in it.
Since there was nothing serious in the engine, i was a bit relieved.
This issue started only after engine stalled 2 times consequently (within a span of about 100 metres distance).
Thats why i wanted to know whether the Engine Grunt disappears over a period of time and becomes soft else it is abnormal.

Remove the Spark plug,Plug a pressure gauge instead and Crank the engine. If the guage reads a low pressure (Below the spec) it indicates there is loss of pressure due to various reasons. The peak pressure is recorded during the combustion stroke when both Inlet and exhaust valve are in closed condition.Hope it clarifies.Originally posted by Doga View PostI am using Motul 3100 4T 20W50 technosynthese(which means SS).
