The cooling system in these bike works only in high rpms. So all that we need to do on the duke during running in is, exploit each gears by steady accelerating and de-accelerating. A easy running in will make a bike slow, irrespective of how hard You ride post run in. Thats what Motoman is trying to convey.
Hmmm the method also mentions that the first 20miles=32kms is crucial for setting the piston rings....however the first 30 odd kms will be done by a factory rider bringing the bike from Bhiwandi to the Kanjurmarg KTM showroom :-( so there goes my chance to ride it hard!!!

        Lets talk about...
        1. External Lock Mechanisms used (Such as disc locks)
        2. Bike Covers?
        3. Motion Sensors (for those that have had their bikes stolen before!!!)
        4. Parking the Bike in your house/Garage (is also a security measure some people have the fortune of being able to do)
        Bike Cover is a MUST.

Alarm can be a good option but the original KTM Alarm System will cost anywhere between Rs 15,000-18,000.

Is KTM coming up with its Alarm system?

Bike Cover A MUST. Wards off 80% of hopeless buggers since they do not know what is hidden underneath. A lesson I learned after getting my Ninja.

& what about the remaining 20%? Do they raise the cover & screw up the bike? (sorry for the OT)

I owned two R15 s in the past (2009,2011). I got around 50 kmpl or sometimes over 50kmpl during run in and around 35 to 45 kmpl after run in.
Ninja 250R and R15 have different run in methods, as During initial run-in(phase 1, under 4k till 800 km) ninja will do only 4k rpm which is a little over 60 kmph. Consider the peak power of ninja is at 11 k rpm it will make very less power at 4k rpm and only need minimal fuel). In the second phase of run-in which is 6k rpm till next 800 kms I got around 35 kmpl.

I have read on a g2g thread, a ninja got over 45 kmpl during a xbhp g2g trip. (he was riding at 80 kmph constantly with other riders, may be that was the reason for such a high FE)

Different people get different FE be it run-in or normal riding bacause everyone has their own riding style.

                  • @^^ +1 I don't think the FE will drop drastically post run-in since you people can already take it all the way upto 7.5k RPM in run-in itself. For a redline of 10k RPM, thats already 75% of redline.

I highest I got on the P220 during run-in was when I stuck to 5k RPM (75kmph) and the bike returned 54ish kmpl (tank full method) on a 4-lane highway. But, that was when I was limited to just 50% of redline RPM. I have managed this figure only twice in the entire 35k+ km of ownership. When the revs rise, the picture ain't so rosy... The Duke, as of now, is returning much better FE than a P220 ever can. And IMO, it will manage better no.s even after the run-in finishes.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I really doubt that high a price for an alarm system even from KTM, it is just unreasonable!!! And then if you don't install their alarm system what happens? you void your warranty :-/

Yes..very well capable of doing that. You will have to invent methods to safeguard your bike..cant do much.

Do the disc locks available online on ebay do a good job? has anyone here used it before? Are they a hard enough material?

this is a link to what I'm referring to...

It might come in with the Power Parts. I checked their website for Power Parts (International Section).....

They did have an alarm system..... I googled that alarm for prices.... It showed some 279 dollars. So has to be around 15,000-18,000 here in India

Does the weight of the bike also has something to do with mileage figures?
Duke is hardly 125kg. Is that the reason its able to manage to give awesome mileage?
