Some people can really screw up your bike especially kids playing around. So better cover your bike when you are not around.

OT - This happened in late 2007 when a 220 was a magnet on the parking lot. I parked my bike to go into a mall. Came back two hours later to see that someone had badly scratched my bikes tank to take away the Tank Pad - a novelty on Indian bikes in those days.
Non OT: Has anyone tried saddle bags (the cramster ones) on the Duke ?

Dont buy this lock.Originally posted by joshzma225 View PostDo the disc locks available online on ebay do a good job? has anyone here used it before? Are they a hard enough material?
this is a link to what I'm referring to...
Bike Disc Lock | eBay
Disk locks are available @ less than 100 bucks in the automotive markets.
I have brought one which is local but 200 bucks for 2 locks to lock both front & rear wheel is not bad at all. & Putting up a bike cover with a guard sitting nearby is more than enough.
P.S. - The lock which is shown in this pic is XENA lock which is more than Rs. 3K. What you will get is a desi chinese lock. So dont bother! (I read this in the feedback section of ebay)Last edited by ASSASSIN07; 03-05-2012, 04:29 PM.Hero Honda Karizma

Yes they are sufficient for a thief who is planning to ride your bike. There are disc alarms available in international market if you need extra security (XENA). But you need to get their batteries replaced every 8 months.Originally posted by joshzma225 View PostOH?!?! THANKS for that then! So the crux here is - Think from thief's point of view, Put yourself in his shoes & they plan accordingly

Anyone done first service
Congrats to all proud owners of the Duke 200.
Has anyone done the first service. If so kindly let us know how much does it cost (though its free service), they may charge for oil / filter etc.
What is the situation of spares, are they easily available and are they costly.
Also, the Coolant tank lid (near the steering) is prone to easy tampering. Has anyone thought of some DIY to secure it.

Got mine - this post should be on page 12
Finally, access to post on this forum after creating my account last Wednesday... and see some pictures.
This "got mine" post therefore really belongs on page 12 actually.
I got my Duke!
Ordered Wednesday Feb 1 around 12:30 as I was not feeling well enough in the morning to show up early.
Number 49 was written at the top of my paperwork before it was hastily turned over.
Off course I was told 90 days waiting... and TD's only on Saturday from the 2nd week onwards.
Got the call for paperwork and money after 5 PM on Tuesday 21st Feb and arranged and paid cash on Wednesday 22nd Feb but only after finally taking a TD which had a few downers...
On Tuesday 28th after 7 PM got the call for delivery the next day after 2 PM and did so on Wednesday 29th.
I was there with another lucky guy and they handled us at the same time.
Deliveries are from Deccan area instead of Bund Garden Road...
All Dukes are stored across the road and there were at least 30 or so of them (almost ready for delivery) with another 10 outside at the showroom under covers, fresh of the truck.
The showroom / paperwork guy said ours were number 6 and 7 being delivered, with a couple delivered on the weekend before and a couple done already before last weekend.
They were still applying number plate stickers and polishing with dirty rags, saw plenty of hairline scratches but hey, this is India... I let it go.
I had the saree and mudguard removed there, they were tight with Loctite!
It took a while as they did not have the right tools.
Also asked to have the rear suspension stiffened but after a long delay including moving the bike to the showroom/workshop across the road, they came to the conclusion that they didn't have the right tools.
The bike had 11 km on the ODO and the guy said all bikes were being test driven at the factory...
Brought the bike home and detected a strange sound between 3 and 4k RPM in 4th gear, both rolling on the throttle and off, I suspect chain tension...
Parking the bike and taking the keys out of the storage compartment under the seat I nearly got electrocuted!!!
Sparks were flying everywhere and my keychain was burning hot to the touch.
On closer inspection it was obvious that the red and black rubber covers were not at all properly over the battery poles!
I will have that rectified soon.
Took the bike for a 75 km ride on Sunday and all was fine, highly enjoyable and lots of looks.
Observed during TD on TD bike:
Very soft front suspension (I'm a big guy).
Very grabby front brake.
Handlebar grips are nastily hard.
Gear lever has a very long travel on up shifts.
Neutral can be tricky to select.
Sloppy welding on the trellis frame.
Clutch lever is unnecessarily wobbly (just up and down, not in direction of engagement)
During first and second ride on my own bike:
Front suspension seems less soft then TD bike, thankfully.
Front brake seems more smooth with still plenty of stopping power.
Welding seems a tad better on the trellis frame.
All the rest from TD bike observations still applies.
Also got my Learner's License the morning before picking up the bike, what a hassle...
I have had my license, overseas, for four wheelers since 1997 and for two wheelers since 2001!
Used to ride a Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja with 100+ bhp before I shifted to the USA, where I almost bought a Buell Firebolt XB12R and 1125R, and then Pune.
Btw, 40+ percent failed the theoretical test of 10 multiple choice questions on which you had to score 60% to pass...
THAT EXPLAINS A LOT of what I have observed so far!
Never ride faster then your guardian angel can fly!Last edited by Dinky Toy; 03-05-2012, 05:24 PM.

That would be meOriginally posted by sudeepnbr View PostThere is a bakery over there and some of us bikers, meet up everyday there around that time. Saw the Duke as well.
I assume that he stays very close to that and he was not wearing a lid. He was riding sanely.

I got my Duke!
First of all, welcome to Xbhp. I noticed in the manual that the bike uses Loctite 243 thread locker, this is very good, prevents bolts from getting loosened during usage. It was a bad idea to keep keys in the battery compartment, I wonder how the battery terminals were left loose. Did it not have any rubber at all? or was it in the wrong place?
I also noticed that the test bike was a bit different than the one I got. Perhaps the test bike was abused by the showroom staff.

First bike, first wash...
F**K Bangalore roads....
My baby Duke literally was doing serious off roading most of the times because of the jam in outer ring road, I had to push it intentionally in such a hot and dusty weather just to see wh the engine temp will reach the "H" mark,...and it dint for like 33kms on continuous dusty, CO2 infested roads...
Nearly missed an accident at a signal, but excellent balance of this bike made me hold on and avert the accident,
Now its one dirty Duke to be honest, I m cleaning it and no ride for next 3 days..
Just wanted to know can i spray water just to get the mud off the chain ?? or its tat i need motul oil only, Pls quickly reply..and any other things to b taken care of while using water to wash ...(this is my first bike)

Yes you can spray water! That won't change the lube conditions of the chain by much (Assuming you're not using a jet to do so). Be sure to dry the bike using a soft cotton cloth.Originally posted by Rajathslr View PostF**K Bangalore roads....
