Bang on.Originally posted by Edd View PostNormal Petrol have RON 91 in India except for a brand whose name I cannot remember (it has RON 89). Bharat Petroleum's Speed is also RON 91 but with additives that help in keeping the "system clean". Now, it is of no use to have Petrol with octane higher than 91 in Duke 200 as its compression ratio is around 11.3:1. Basically, Speed 93 and Speed 97 are useless for Duke 200. (Speed 93 will be good for Duke 390 tho as its compression ratio is above 12:1)
Also, it is of "absolutely" no use to fill your tanks with Speed (just a waste of money). It would be sufficient to use normal RON 91 petrol. However, you may get it filled with Speed once in a month or two just to "clean the system".
Rest all features (like Smoother engine, better pickup etc.) of Speed (BP), Extra Premium(IOC) and Power(HP) are all marketing gimmicks.
P.S.: These are my views based on my findings and discussions with "experts". Still you can curse me if you want to. :P
Update:
Bikes that are in Run in period (New bikes) are recommended to use Premium petrol like Speed. After run in period you may change to normal fuel. (But RON 91, and not 89)
Exactly. People can bulls**t all they want. (please don't start off anything here, it's just my opinion.) But accidents do happen, and sometimes, yes we aren't aware and sometimes it's just bad luck.Originally posted by Doga View PostI was honest in admitting the truth and frankly I all I could expect was brickbats here . I agree. There is no running away from the fact that I did a stupid thing and in hindsight that stupid thing could very well have turned into a fatal thing for me or for someone else. Though I was hardly doing 20 and did not hit an oncoming vehicle(I actually hit a person just trying to ride his bike out of parking from blind spot because my line of sight was blocked by a huge SUV), it could have been a lot worse. Fact is I in general abide by the traffic rules and this was a very rare occurrence when I did it. I should learn my lesson and not repeat it.
But one thing I'd like to add. Sometimes people, although totally right in voicing their outrage, become a bit too preachy and in not a very friendly way. Ok sir I am nincompoop/moron/'jeopardizer' and what not but tell me one thing here guys: Which is the race track people go to for testing the limits of their machines and report routinely here on this forum about the rev limiter of the duke cutting in sharply at 137/138 , about the Ninja's prowess at high rpms or about the CBRs long legged manners on the streets/highways? I'd like to go to that track too to crash my bike and hit some innocent bystanders or some other rider.
Even if the argument is that the stretch which was used to test it is a desolate road with sparse traffic, there is always a chance that some slum dweller just decides to jump on the road after having relieved himself in the bushes. Who would be the moron then? The rider? The jaywalker? or Both?
Truth is almost all of us act stupid and break some kind of traffic rule once in a while. Speed limits are the most common ones. Entering a wrong lane was recipe for disaster and the guy who paid for his stupidity was me that day and I would try my best to abide by the rules from now on. But I just hoped people would be a bit milder here.(though some guys did show their soft spots I'd agree
)
Slap back all the naysayers getting back on saddle.
Just a friendly anecdote.
10 to 12k for a chain sprocket? That's way too low for an O ring chain.Originally posted by Ankitvile View PostGot mine serviced yesterday. And the chainset was replaced. Total bill was around 5025rs.Its quite fascinating about the chain going off around some odd 11000kms. My friend had his bike's changed at around 11-12k kms.
Boy oh boy, my Victor's chain set lasted 32K kms with still some life left on the both the sprockets, except the chain.
Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Man, I thought you were going to go ballistic on me. Good to see you taking it all in good spirit,
besides I did say 'I am extremely sorry' didn't I.
I don't think any of us would want to see you GO prematurely in a stupid fatal accident while
taking someone else with you in the process and that my friend is the bottom line. Ok that

Hey, thanks for the reply buddy.Originally posted by splus View PostThe cut off in 6th gear in the original first ECU map was at 137-138 kmh and it was quite strong and sudden.
The cut off in new (5 months old) ECU map is at 133-134 kmh and is soft and gentle.
At least in my bike...
You might want to check with KTM which ECU map you have (sounds like the old one) and decide if you want to ask them to flash the new one or not.
The new map locks the revs in 5th and 6th gears at 10,000 rpm (leaves it at 10,500 rpm in other gears), so it reduces the top speed but not by much, and smoothens the power delivery at low revs, it's less jerky.
Or you could go with Kiirus or Race Dynamics' modified ECU and increase the rev limiter to 11,700 rpm and top speed at 149 kmh, with boosted power esp in mid range...
I saw the bike hit 137 and a sec latter it hit the rev limiter. So am guessing it kicked in at 138kmph. I bought the bike on Nov 26th and was told that all the old problem have been rectified and mine was from the new lot. I doubt it coz, the rear shock was replaced last week under warranty. Paint was chipping off, as far as i remember that problem existed only in the older lot.
Any reviews on Kiirus or Race Dynamics modified ECU?07 HH Zma

My worst mileage so far has been 37 kml when I ride @ 125 kmph @ 9000 rpm on NICE road & best has been 65 kmpl .......Originally posted by dishayu View PostWhat's the minimum fuel efficiency you guys have seen on the console yet? I saw 17 km/L yesterday. That's as low as i have ever gone.

Are you F***'in kidding me! 37 kmpl is one of my best mileages. But 65 kmpl is ridiculous! Are sure about the figures?Originally posted by Suresh Upadya View PostMy worst mileage so far has been 37 kml when I ride @ 125 kmph @ 9000 rpm on NICE road & best has been 65 kmpl .......
On another note, I am thankful to god and bike and trembling as I write this post. I was on my way to office today and had sudden rush of adrenaline. I just put the bike in 6th gear and rolled the throttle in. Now on way to office there is a downwards slope after which there really really bad road and potholes really big and consecutive. I knew the road very well as I travel regularly, but still as I was approaching those potholes I could not let go off the throttle. I just lifted myself a bit and thought I will pass over the holes while in a bit of standing position so that it doesn't hurt my back. But my speed was too much and potholes too big. Three consecutive potholes, bike jumped in first pothole, tilted towards right (and I mean it was almost at 20 degrees from road surface). Then it it second pothole. ANd then the third and I was about to fall along with bike. But thanks to KTM it could take so much beating and being lightweight it just kept running tilted and I could pick it up straight (due to my standing position). It would have been really fatal if bike had fallen and I would have been thrown on road with speeding traffic. The vehicles behind me did see what happened and I just couldn't stop myself and sped off from there all trembling.
I am sure if it would have been any other bike, I might not have been writing this post. It was just plain stupid of me. And whatever be the case, I might not be able to speed up on that road again. For those who are from Mumbai, it was the JVLR road going towards Powai just after crossing L&T.

What if i say ive recieved 94kmpl....It depends on the road youre riding. Riding on a road which is quite a slope for few kms may give you good kmpl figures. While riding downhill i was in neutral and engine idling. I rode 10-15+kms that way. My bike's console displayed 94kmpl. Thats because while engine is idling the rpm is very low thus fuel consumption is low and downhill were rapidly munching kms on clock. So it shows high km/l figures. Same might be the case on a gradual gradient i mean not too steep but a gradual slope. Duke ridden on that will surely show good km/l figures. So it depends on the road too. It is possbl it may have shown 65kmpl. Conditions apply.Originally posted by Edd View PostAre you F***'in kidding me! 37 kmpl is one of my best mileages. But 65 kmpl is ridiculous! I get max of 52-53kmpl on straight highways. On mountains slopes the whole story is different.Code:https://www.instagram.com/ankit_himalayas/

Looks like you got your bike JUST before the new ECU map was released. It's up to you if you want to stay with the old map or ask the KTM guys to change to the new one.Originally posted by onlinesatish View PostHey, thanks for the reply buddy.

The new one is smoother at the low end, no more jerking. But it cuts off at 134 kmh, albeit softly.
Surprisingly no real reviews about either Kiirus or RD maps, just some sparse info and opinions from some individuals. I don't get it why there's no some proper info and reviews or comparisons to the stock ECU, it's being treated as if it's a secret even by its makers...
Hmmm, I kinda doubt you let the bike run at this speed for longer time. The console needs some 10 min of constant ride at this speed to show the accurate mileage for that speed. Otherwise the figure is a mix of mileages at current and previous speeds.Originally posted by Suresh Upadya View PostMy worst mileage so far has been 37 kml when I ride @ 125 kmph @ 9000 rpm on NICE road & best has been 65 kmpl .......
I did some tests with riding the bike for longer time at same speeds - at constant 100 kmh console finally got stuck at 39 kmpl. But then riding at around 130 kmh, and then even 133-134 kmh for longer time, the console got stabilized at 28 kmpl. Tankfull to tankfull method confirmed it as well. This low figure isn't surprising, it's a redline mileage.
I haven't tried riding at 60-70 kmh in 6th gear for longer time but I'm sure it would be close to 50 kmpl...
I second this. I also had a few situations where I'm pretty sure with any other bike I would have had a fall, but Duke somehow stayed up and under control.Originally posted by Edd View PostBut thanks to KTM it could take so much beating and being lightweight it just kept running tilted and I could pick it up straight (due to my standing position). It looks like it's very difficult to lose the control over Duke, it somehow stays composed "by itself".
I was so grateful and was just saying "wow, what an amazing bike!!!".

Got my self the duke 200 yesterday
purchased it from the showroom at phoenix compound (lower parel). And Boy does it acclerate in a flash. It just keeps going. Although i read everywhere that it has rev limter at 7500 rpm but my bike just went on goin to 85 and upward's i thought rpm imiter would kick in but it seem's it doesnt have a limter. So i slowed down and kept riding at 40-50. when i reached home i see the heat bar almost all the way up some warning signal's flashing, i could smell something burnt, like oil or may be it was just the heated up exhaust and other components. So my question is should i hv a limiter on or not, the showroom sales guy said yesterday that it has a limiter till 1st svc, but the mechanic told me today that it does'nt.
Also when excatly does the radiator fan start spinning? and is there anyway to know if the coolant is being circulated properly?
This pic was taken a little later after i stopped, the heat indicator was even higher than in the pic, but not all the way up i guess.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

All the new dukes are limited to 7500 rpm till 1st service. No exceptions. The bike does around 90 or so (I havent tested it at that speed yet
) at 7500 rpm. Next time you take it up, try checking what the tacho is saying instead of the speed. That'll probably clear your doubt.
The heat is normal, as long as it stays within the big segment as indicated on the MID. Dont worry about it, since the bike is new, components are running in, hence more friction, hence more heat. It will settle down over time. The fan comes on as soon as you reach the higher end of the segment and will bring it down by a few degrees.
Enjoy your bike and welcome to the club

Thank dude, it's a club i've been dreaming to be a part of ever since the fz 16, well that dream just got better. Yes i will check the rpm and see how far it revs, what worries me is the svc center mechanic from the ktm svc center told me in clear word's that there is no rev limiter and that the bike will go all the way. will test how much it revs to confirm. And i guess heat it not really a big issue untill the bar goes all the way up to maximum? is that correct?Originally posted by katoom View PostHey,

I guess till about the end of the big segment, it should be fine. Anything beyond, just take a break for a few minutes, and let it cool downOriginally posted by BikerKid View PostAnd i guess heat it not really a big issue untill the bar goes all the way up to maximum? is that correct?
Other members can probably throw more light on this though!

Rev-limiter comes into play only at 10.5K RPM in the first four gears & at 10K RPM in the remaining two gears. Heat is normal, nothing to worry about as long as the fan kicks-in & there is no 'High Temperature' warning message in the MID.Originally posted by BikerKid View PostAlthough i read everywhere that it has rev limter at 7500 rpm but my bike just went on goin to 85 and upward's i thought rpm imiter would kick in but it seem's it doesnt have a limter.
