I had downloaded the manual from the net long back. I am sure it'd be in the Indian Manual too, but will have to check it once.

Had my first fall today. A car suddenly shifted lane to avoid a crater on the road and for my shite luck rammed into the bike (the bastar* didn't even have the basic courtesy to stop and check). Had no time whatsoever to react. I escaped with a few bruises on my knee and toe. Happened quite close to where I live, so managed to get back home quickly.
Looks like the bike has taken a bit of a beating.
1) The left side of the handle bar was touching the top of the tank when I picked the bike up. Had to push the bar out. Possibly bent handle bar?
2) I'm not able to lock the handlebar because it wouldn't turn fully to the left - what could be wrong here?
2) Gear shifter's broken - will need to get a new one. (Gawd knows how I can ride it to the SVC tomorrow!)
3) Left side of the crash guard is bent
3) Left mirror gone again! (got it replaced just 2 days back!)
4) Scratches on the tank, rear hand-grab and few other places

That's really sad. I think the insurance should cover the handle bar, lock, gear shifter & the crash guard. The mirror, & scratches r gonna be something U'll have to deal with urself.Originally posted by walter View PostHad my first fall today. Try the scratch remover agents. The hand grab can be changed too, try to persuade em to replace it as well. But it's really got low chances that they'd agree to it.
I think they provide those pick up autos or something to get it to the SVC, call em 1st thing in the morning & ask em for it.
The rest is up to them to deduce & summarize to u properly.Ride Fair, Ride Hard...

^Thanks, Roy. I worked out the lock thing - a tiny metal projection/stop near the lock (that somewhere limits the turning radius I think) had got chipped off and was blocking the handlebar movement. It then became loose and fell off and the lock's working fine now. Will probably need to get the piece welded or replaced. Fortunately looks like there ain't no fork bends or damage to the brakes/rim. Quite a relief.

Get it thoroughly checked & examined. Insurance will act on all but the plastic parts mostly. So stand beside em while they examine & ask em to check everywhere U think is necessary to. Changing the handle bar would be wise. Don't let em trick u with anything less than required at any cost. My friend made sure about everything being fixed/replaced covered under the insurance after his accident.Originally posted by walter View Post^Thanks, Roy. Will check closely, Roy.
Wanted to take the bike to the SVC this morning (tried a little jugaad for the gear lever which I was hoping would take me till the SVC) but the bike refused to start! Argh! I was able to ride it back home last evening after the fall but now it just wouldn't crank up. I'm yet to check the battery. The guy at the SVC said they don't have a towing service and that I'll need to arrange for one on my own. My dose of shit luck continues. These testing times... darn!
Edit-1
Any recos for 2 wheeler towing service in Bangalore (around Frazer town)?
Edit-2
Noob alert: I tried following the instructions in the manual to remove the battery terminals but failed. How do I disconnect the cables? Can't seem to find where exactly it is fixed from where I'll need to take it off! Oh, btw, is this the right method to check the electricals on the bike to see why it isn't cranking up? SOS! SOS!Last edited by walter; 04-12-2013, 12:03 PM.

It's really sad to hear abt the fall. But I appreciate you man, to come all over here to explain abt the incident and asking for some suggestions. I suggest you to take some Tow Auto to carry your bike to the SVC center. The battery terminals are under the front seat. So you need to unscrew it and try to check for the faulty cable(but I suggest you to leave this to the SVC guys). I think most of the damage will be covered under the insurance and your bike will be as new as it was earlier. Let me come back with some more info on the insurance coverage.Originally posted by walter View PostWill check closely, Roy.

Sad to know I have company. I was stupid and you unfortunateOriginally posted by walter View PostHad my first fall today. A similar thing happened to me though(when I was not stupid) in the fag end of Dec last year, but the cager was decent in that he pulled his car and inquired about my well being!!!
You mention that you have scratches on your tank. Which means the handlebar hit it(actually the switch assembly). This either one or all of these three things have happened:
1)Your handlebar is bent. You need to replace it. (900 odd bucks). Everything else all right(I am not talking about the gear shifter)
2) Your handlebar is OK and the forks are misaligned. You need to take them to a lathe machine to get them realigned again. (900 Odd bucks. Replacing forks mean 26K, and normally insurance guys would not approve it except it's absolutely necessary). Everything else alright.
3) This is the worst which can happen: The impact was such that the upper aluminium T which has protrusions to limit the handlebar movement(called a KIT triple clamp ASS in the spare parts jargon, worth Rs 3800 ) gave way, in that one of the limiters broke off, and the fork hit the chassis making a dent. If this happens then the T itself would have hit the chassis too. So you'd have two dents. One near the weld at the front meeting point of the trellis(due to the T hitting the chassis) and the other a bit further down(by the fork)
This would mean trouble of replacing the chassis as well as the T. Chassis costs around 9K. Would be covered by insurance surely but you'd have to take the trouble of getting new chassis number from the RTO and getting it embossed on your chassis. If your svc does it then great or else be ready for some wandering around!!
So do a thorough check. The aluminium T is not very strong IMO and the limiter easily gives way resulting in that fat fork hitting the trellis and denting it.
If the right T limiter is broken off then you'd have dent in the left part of the chassis and vice versa.
I have one too. but have decided to keep the chassis because of many reasons. I hope the chassis doesn't loose it's integrity while riding one bad day catastrophically. But that is more likely for an aluminium frame than a steel frame(duke's is a steel).
That's another problem with a high end sportsbike having aluminium frame. There are chances that your frame gets a dent/bent even with a slight fall and then you are runied. Because aluminium has a tendency to crack and break at the dent area even if the dent is small unlike steel. Or may be I am just comforting myself after reading up on the net

Just completed 500km on my dukie and went for replacing the Oil filter &engine oil - with the same mineral one(Bajaj 20W50) at Khivraj Bangalore. There I saw a duke getting its fork changed. It reminded me abt the accident from the previous posts (but this time it is on the right side
). I agree that Duke is meant for stunting(mostly), but it need some proper care & maintenance (I felt sad after looking at the dukes... how mercilessly they are riding it). Anyways... so, I paid a total of 650 (including labour charges and TAX
) and came back to post it.
. TAKE CARE OF YOUR DUKE WELL.

Well, it's true that those insurance people will not agree to everything easily, but like I'd mentioned before, don't let them trick u at all. Outsmart or over-power em with everything u've got to get things done. I here hope too that ur chassis is intact, it'd be I suppose.
All the best...Ride Fair, Ride Hard...

Thanks a bunch for the words of wisdom, guys; has been really useful (and Doga, frankly, your RCA pointers did give me some creeps!).
Well, the tale so far - the Domlur branch put me on to the main branch at Kasturba road and they promptly sent a mechanic after 3-4 hours. I placed an order for a new gear lever through him, which has now been mounted on the bike. The guy's immediate reaction (on seeing that the bike wasn't cranking and just making a little 'click' sound when the starter was pressed) was that the battery was gone! I was almost certain this wasn't the issue because it was running fine till last night. He then plugged in a spare battery he had and it wouldn't do anything more than the click sound! He then checked some connections concealed under the left side panel of the bike (the side which took the beating during the fall) and pressed them a little and voila, the bike cranked up! So, it was a loose connection eventually. Glad it was just that.
He also confirmed that the handle bar is bent and that the clamp that holds the fork is damaged; will need to be replaced. I did a close checkup of the fork and the chassis and didn't see any bends/dents. He was of the same opinion too. Will get it checked again at the SVC. About the scraped tank cover, the guy said I could get it changed and claim insurance to get 50%. Not sure if this would really work though, lets see.

I Will suggest you not to claim insurance if the cost of replacing this part is not too high.Care about your No claim bonus buddyOriginally posted by walter View PostHe also confirmed that the handle bar is bent and that the clamp that holds the fork is damaged; will need to be replaced. I gave my duke for service today here at kasturba road bangalore, just out of curiosity I asked Ravi (SVC Engineer) about the top speed,it was to my surprise brought to my notice that all the D200s have got a ECU remap done which will not allow these machines to clock post 130kmph.Yes it is not 138guys.bit of a heartbreak
.This is to correct the famous low speed engine jurking (as if it has run out of fuel) issue that people saw in the first lot of dukes.
Secondly,I just learnt my free service is not so free
,will be spending 1500 on the motul synthetic and 600 buks for the teflon (which i ignored at the time of delivery). The KTM bike cover is at 700 which I liked and picked.
Lastly,They did not cause any porblem looking at my good looking white parking light
,I was worried if they would start their ranting of voiding warranty etc.
The LED cost me 60 buks and fitting charge was 100.Dream Machines Sanjaynagar BangaloreLast edited by manu4j1; 04-13-2013, 04:14 AM.

Took a fall today. Speeding down a steep slope and unable to take proper turn. (My SRs came into action). Hit the sidewalk in a dirty area "filled with garbage and black goo" :/
Bikes skidded along with me and fell to the right. Was able to save myself by keeping balance on my Palm (now scratched palm). Picked up the bike, turned it off, turned it on, lowered the gears (was on 6th gear, didn't realize), ignition was stuck, wiggled it a bit and good to go. Rolled the throttle in, and sped away with passers by looking at me.
Time to give the bike and myself a wash. Bike was stinking a lot, and I am sitting in the office, stinking a little (or maybe I just think that I am stinking not sure). Will take a half day and look for a bike wash place.
Am yet to check on the bike's exterior if it's Ok. I just parked it and came in office without looking at bike (Guess I am afraid to find out something damaged or missing)
P.S: Anyone knows of a good bike wash place near Ghatkopar or Powai in Mumbai?
