ive narrowed my choice to the duke 200 and the r15 , I love the duke but I am quite concerned because a lot of people seem to be facing a lot of problem with the chain sprocket and noises from different parts of the bike and the hard seat
    My requirements are as follows
    1) comfortable city ride
    2) maintanance free( excluding the regular oil changes and stuff)
    3) after purchase survice (location Hyderabad )
    & being owner friendly
So would the duke be the bike for me !?
    thanks in advance
    Hi Sashank,

Being a Duker, I want to share my experience with you. First of all the price is high when compared to R15 but it is worth each & every penny. Its is definitely a head turner on the road when compared to many other bikes including R15 & CBR 250(which are close to its class). I work in an IT firm in B'lore and it is 16 km away from my home. I ride daily and for sure it is comfortable in terms of city ride and traffic. It is easy to flick and vroom in traffic.
Coming to maintenance, I haven't face any issues so far and the regular oil change is must in any bike for keeping it alive. The service is good and also the spares are cheap(Thanks to Bajaj).
The problems what you saw in this thread are from the bikes before 2013. All the problems were fixed in the new bikes and comes with more options (Color, Power-parts, ABS in future ...etc).
I think this bike can be a true asset if your plan is to maintain it for a long time. It is a stunt bike too and you can explore your skills with this.

Hope this info helps you. But EOD your choice matters, so get a trail on the bikes before you purchase.

    ATB for your future bike.

    • KTM Duke 200 New bike issue.

      Hello there friends,

I have bought a new KTM Duke 200. I stay in Pune.

I might need some help for some topics mentioned below:
      - I noticed an unnatural surge in fuelling between 4500-6000 rpm, I noticed while riding the bike a bit bland. What might be the issue???

*****- The bike is relatively new... i have done approx. 3000 Kms by now. Keep the bike as per manual and suggested by the dealer. Lubricate the chain every 500-550 Kms.

But My friends revved the engine very rough and high when I got the bike (Hardly 150 Kms done)..... Issue- I am experiencing slight vibrations and hard gear shifts.

Does it mean that revving hard might have got my bike into this problem... Or should I wait until 2nd servicing so as to let the piston be more free???

Please help me out guyz... I am a newbie in Biking and especially to such a technology.

What im thinking is if it might be a mechanical issue. If the oil filter is clogged or oil is diluted it can be replaced locally, quite a doable job. But big malfunction is scary....Its scary i dont want to ship it.
Anyways....rode back the bike 300kms with the low oil pressure on console. Turns out it tends to come up only at high rpms. 6k+ ..not below that. Will take the bike to SVC today. Hoping everythings fine.

                • Re: KTM 200 Duke

Ok Guys, here comes my buying experience and intial review of my White Duke 200.

A small flash back. I used to ride a P220, that was Joeled to 230 CC, with lots of mods to the bike. The bike held up well, and always brought a smile to my face. However, it had served well for almost 4 years, and I thought it was time for change.

                  I had 4 options. CBR250R, Duke 390, Duke 200 & P200NS.

I took a test ride of CBR, and quite liked it. However, the attitude of the showroom guys was a big downer. They do not care if you are buying a CBR and putting close to 2 lacs on a bike. On top of that they want to create a false impression of very high demand. They went on to say I have to wait for a month, even if i paid upfront in cash.

Also, stories of spare parts unavaialability put me off. Thats the end of my CBR dreams.

Moving on I also gave a thought to Duke 390, however, I was not sure about the launch date, also I was not sure about buying a newly launched bike.

Hence the final list boiled down to P200 NS and Duke 200. I took a couple of test rides on Duke but wasn't blown away, like most of the owners say. I had the oppurtunity of riding my friends 200 NS (Ashish), and quite liked the overall package. Looks, styling, refinement, power, Bajaj Service (I have had good experience with Bajaj service, hence the inclination).
It ticked most of the boxes.

Finally, yesterday when I made my mind to buy a bike, I walked into the nearest Bajaj showroom in Vashi, and asked for a Red 200NS. However, they just had 1 piece (Blue) with them which was a February 2013 model. I wasn't to confident about the bike, hence decided to try my luck at the nearest ProBiking near vashi Station.

My experience at Probiking, was just great. The Manager there was patient enough to hear me. He suggested that I should go for Duke as I already had a P220, and Duke would be the right upgrade. He said he also had a red 200 NS with him and could give me then and there.

I was in a confusion and asked them to give me a test ride on a new Duke 200. I told him up front, if I like it I will buy that piece, else I will go for 200NS.

The Manager was more than helpful in this regards. He arranged for a new "Peti Pack" bike, filled in petrol and gave me a ride. It was completely different than the test ride bikes.
2 minutes into the ride and I knew this is it. I got down from the bike, made the payment, and took the delivery of my white Duke 200.

I am happy with my purchase, and I am equally happy with the Customer Service of ProBiking staff. They just make you feel special. They know investing 1-1.5 lacs on a bike is still a big deal in India, and they respect that. They just pamper you. After I made the payment, Manager was on his toes, readying the bike.

All in All a very happy buying experience. Also, the intial impression of the bike is good. I dont have words to describe the amazing power delivery, oodles of power and torque. It is something you got to experience yourself.

If I had to select between CBR and Duke 200 solely on the basis of riding pleasure, it would be Duke.

Watch this space for Pics of my bike.

It's not a new bike as such. Almost all components are common with a duke 200 (apart from tyres and brakes, each of which are objectively better). And the launch of the bike is merely days away.

I highly doubt if a 200 duke would be much of an upgrade over a souped up p220.

I too have bought a duke 200 yesterday and have a souped up Pulsar equally if not faster than Chinmayakar's and I don't think the 200 is an upgrade but I definitely don't think its a downgrade. The 200 is just like my pulsar but much more daily ride-able The duke is lighter, has better brakes much more refined and much better quality products. I don't think Chin ever said its an upgrade, the Manager said it was and from my guess he didn't know that Chin's Pulsar was souped up.

One of the foremost debates revolve around the way the 390 is styled - it looks exactly the same as the 200 despite the fact that it would be offered in a different paint scheme and has been beefed up marginally in terms of size.

But that's where the similarities end.

To crank off this debate, let us start with the engine.

The 390 will be powered by a newly developed 375cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled mill capable of pumping close to 45PS of power and 35NM of torque. These are numbers which an average two-wheeler enthusiast in our country has never experienced in a budget which makes the 390 Duke all the more desirable.
It is not just the power of the new bike that impresses but the manner in which the boffins at KTM have packaged the bike so beautifully. For any motorcycle or car, the basic mantra for performance is power-to-weight ratio and this is a department where the 390 shines. The new engine weighs a mere 39kg whereas the whole bike tips the scale at just 139kg (dry weight) which transforms to an impressive 340PS/Ton.
The KTM 200, on the other hand, has a power-to-weight ratio of 200PS/Ton and those who have ridden this bike swear by its performance so one can well imagine how much of a bump up in performance and rideability the 390 would have.

To make a powerful bike is one thing; translating all that power on to the road another. The engineers at KTM have ensured that all the power is utilised not only in straight lines but in sharp corners as well, for which they have equipped the 390 with an ultra-light trellis frame, die-cast aluminium swingarm and WP Suspension so the rider can harness the full power making the 390 a fun bike to ride.
Apart from this for better handling, the 390 Duke is also fitted with superior performing Metzeler Sportec M5 tyres which are renowned for the grip they provide on wet and damp roads.
Keeping in mind the new bike's performance advantage over the 200, KTM has armed the 390 with Brembo-developed disc brakes and disengageable 9MB ABS by Bosch as standard.
                      Here's Mine BTW

He didn't say it was an upgrade, but the general trend is that when someone replaces their functioning bike with another bike, it's because they want an upgrade, so it wasn't an unfair assumption on my part that he wanted an upgrade to his pulsar.

As for quality, me being an owner of the bike for nearly a year longer than you, can conclusively state that duke's build quality isn't really anything to go gaga about. It's better than what they have done in the past but not really a deciding factor and definitely not in the class of truly international bikes that sell here (like the ninja 250/300). I have been on about this topic in this very thread months ago. Please feel free to dig up if you so wish.

I know the differences quite well, thank you very much. The engine is obviously new, i didn't think it needed a mention. Apart from that they only mention brakes and tyres, which i already covered.

As for my statement, i can't really help if you didn't pay attention to the context. He said he was skeptical about the "new" bike. And i meant to say that he should have waited because "new" really shouldn't have be the concern... the 390 shares the platform with the 125/200 dukes and it can really be summed up as a 200 duke with 70% more power, more grip and better brakes. That would have been a nice upgrade. Surely nothing unpredictable/uncertain there. And to repeat myself... CONTEXT.

Hi Guys. I got my Duke last Thursday. I feel hot air on my legs after riding for sometime in traffic. The temperature graph on the console, remians shy of hot mark by just 2 points. Is that normal for a new bike. Also, is the ProBiking Service Centre open on Sundays. Where is the Centre in Seawood? Is it on Palm Beach ROad?
