      I was thinking the same...
But then I've been enjoying my Duke even on long highway rides so much recently, not to mention curvy roads in Goa, that I'm almost afraid now that no other bike can be so much fun! Even Duke 390...

I remember some months ago when I tried Kawasaki 650 and was going around some hilly roads with just 1/4 of throttle opened simply because the bike would go too fast for the road if I opened it more. And was thinking how I can't really enjoy the bike fully riding it at quarter of throttle opened. And in that moment one smaller bike passed me from opposite direction, the guy was going almost full throttle and really enjoying himself.
And I just know that in that moment I envied him, he was having much more fun than me...

I don't know, maybe I still end up getting the Duke 390, but for now I can say that Duke 200 is an absolute FUN MACHINE!
It's just such a good bike, so we'll done in every way, that it'll be very difficult for me to part with it... I'm not sure I'll want to, even if I could get any other bike.

      • same issue I am facing with my duke

        [QUOTE=kevin4nivek;828064]Hi Guys,

I also had few issues that sadly still persists. Wonder if someone else is facing similar issue and is aware of any solution

        1) I had earlier posted that I am able to hear a krrrrrrrr kind of sound which feels like coming from the front chain sproket which engine on or off. It comes only when the bike is moving at a spped of 15-20kmph or more. I had taken my bike to the service center and the technician there rode it and told me it was normal.

if any one has found some solution to it please post. let me clarify i have already resolved the khat khat issue, so please dont confuse it with that.

          • Air Filter Issue

Hello everyone, on the eve of Orange day in Delhi I cleaned my Duke's Air filter and found a flaw. The issue is when the air filter is removed and put back in place the cover does not lock into place and leaves a gap 8 out of 10 times. It is very tricky to put it back into place properly. After putting it back into place properly the sound note of the bike has changed. This is perhaps the reason a lot of us mentioned a change in the exhaust note of the bike after the first service.

If this slot is not put into place properly it results into the air filter breathing from the gap and not the snorkel. It can be noticed if the bike makes a frrrtttt... sound as it is revved.

An image of the cover is attached. As you can see it was not locked into place correctly and was perhaps the work of a hasty mechanic. I wonder if the leakage is petrol fumes. Hope this helps.

I've got a similar problem while shifting from 5th to 6th. The bike makes that vrooom growl and the gear indicator goes blank.I quickly tap the gear and shift up. Gets a bit scary at time. I'm going to look into it soon. Lately felt alot of vibrations in the bike mostly from the consle.

The Right side of My Bikes's Tank Is Scraped ,On the Orange Fibre An Inch Size Scratch .The Paint is out.
If I Give My Bike to Service Station,Are they gonna paint it immediately or How are they gonna fix it,
And Plus my right hand side rubber grips are torn and scrapped off too..Along with the brake lever scrapped .
Please tell me what can I do.

                Please Help.
hey! i had the exactly same type of damages after my fall. SVC guys cannot paint the tank as it is fibre. but not to worry as the orange part of the tank costs 1086/-. isnt such a bomb afterall. the front brake lever around 180/- add or subtract 20. the rubber grips are around 70 bucks.
handlebar 890/-. i dont remember how much was charged for fork alignment and even for the rear LH grab rail. (i fell on the left side). indicator set (LH front and back) about 500/-.
I would advise you to change everything that is damaged so that you can get the back like a new DUKE and also old mended parts will always remind you that you had a fall...

                    ust

i don't think its an issue, 100KM is not a big deal , take short breaks in between and it should be fine.

Don't rev it up too much or strain the engine, dont try to break speeding records on the bike. take a chillaxed ride!

I too am getting same problem between 5th and 6th gear. And this is happening since long time now. The mechanic told me its the problem of loose chain. I dont believe him. The problem has gotten worse now as the second gear too slips to nuetral when I accelerate hard in second gear. I feel there is something seriously wrong the gear box.

I have completed 11,600 kms now. The problem of "Low Oil Pressure" has resurfaced now. Earlier after second service at 4500kms the problem came at around 7000kms. I did third service at 7800kms and that problem has come again now at 11500kms. My engine is eating the Engine Oil. I am using Motul 7100 FS oil since 5000 kms. This time SVC will be having a hard time.

                      • Got the 1st service done on Saturday @ 890kms. Bill was 1795 Motul 7100 2ltrs, consumables 100rs and 83rs for oil filter.

Did about 100 plus kms after that. Chain is making quite a noise! Wonder when will PBK ever learn to adjust the chain properly.

Front left indicator has fogged up and the rear left indicator make a rattling noise as if a screw is loose somewhere!

Is fogging up a general issue or should be looking at a warranty claim?

Every road bike I've owned could go too fast for a curvy road in the right gear. However, each of those bikes could also handle that road at a far higher speed than most would be capable of riding. A bike that can be ridden at or near full throttle on almost any road is a bike that *will* run out of throttle when the conditions open up. My brother's FZ tops out at just over 100 in 5th gear at full throttle. My last bike before coming to India could do 100 in first gear and still have throttle left over. Needless to say, I get frustrated really quickly with his bike, because I run out of engine just as things start to get interesting. If you're bored with the road at 1/4 throttle on a 650, downshift a gear or two. The 390, even though it's in the upper levels of displacement for "ordinary" India-market bikes, is still "little" by most standards. Ride it for six months or a year, and you'll find the limits pretty quickly.

                          It's all perspective.

I agree. I feel the duke is jolly fun but one would soon outgrow the bike. Also not everyone has the luxury to take the duke to the twisties on every other weekend to enjoy the sweet handling in the corners.
Speaking of corners, I ahve been feeling that the biek si a bit edgy during cornering of late. The rear does not grip as well as it used to and I can feel the rear slipping ever so slightly every time I lean into making things very jittery. The tyres 'look' Ok but these being soft compounds, should they be changed now hat the odo reads 11K + ? the area engineer at thes vc once told me the tyres would need replacement at around 12 K.

Btw what of your imminent duke purchase Mountain?

As long as the tires have tread and are not starting to crack, they should be providing good grip. What you may be experiencing is that, now that the weather is quite dry and has been for some time, the dust/grime on the road is looser, and thus traction is degraded somewhat.

I'm still waiting on a bike; we've had to focus on allocating money to property first, though I'm hoping that will change soon. However, I am having second thoughts about the Duke, for the very reason I mentioned: given my experience with much larger and more potent bikes, I feel the Duke is likely to become disappointing to me fairly quickly, even at the lower traffic speeds available here in India. In that case, spending even 1lakh on a bike would seem to be a waste, as I am not likely to get my money back on the investment. I may jump right to my "big" bike, which is also a list that is getting shorter as I get older.

Testified. I'm not even experienced on big bikes and i find duke to be a bit boring at times now. Besides, it might have been designed hand-in-hand with KTM but the build quality is still very much "Bajaj".

On another note, has anyone else been experiencing DRAMATIC drop in fuel efficiency since the 5% ethanol rule came into effect. I thought it won't make a noticable difference. But the fuel economy of my bike in the past fuel cycle was very close to 20 kpl. I usually get fuel economy in low 30s in my daily riding conditions but it just chomped through fuel this time round. Not sure if something is wrong with the bike or it's a fuel issue.
