Yes Duke is surely a best machine for daily riders! And nice to have it in city. The only mod that I feel is get some additional foam added to the saddle, as you will be using it daily. It has some hard saddle, which butts don't like it for 10kms + rides.Originally posted by praveen4890I am not a tourer.. Just city rides... so i din think of CBR ... is duke good for daily commute ?

Thanks for that great info Mountain. That explains why the adjustment interval for the KTM 200 dukes valves are so long! I've already spoken to the SVC center ans they've made an appointment for me to have it adjusted next week.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostShim-under-bucket has been common on motorcycles for a couple of decades now. It's not really any more complex than screw-adjuster valves; there are no "precise calculations" that are different from those needed to properly adjust other types of valves. It's a somewhat longer process, since you have to at least estimate any shim thickness that needs to be added or subtracted to get the valves into proper adjustment before you start the process, but that's not really any more complex than using a blade-type feeler gauge to get screw adjusters set and locked properly. The nice thing about shim-under-bucket is that the valve adjustment interval is much much longer, and very often there is no actual adjustment needed even at the interval.Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

Hello guys,
I'm a French owner of a Duke 125.
I'm looking for some spare parts that are not available in Europe : rear mud guard and the crash cage to protect the radiator

If someone have one, or could give me some local website that could sell spare-parts, it will be nice.

Hello chaps, I've been reading this thread for the last week and a half and had gone all the way to page 325 but then I realized is not possible for me to read it all and still have a life, a job and time to sleep so I decided to ask you directly hoping to get honest to heart answers from you Dukers:
The thing is, I really love the Duke and wanna get it. By fortune it comes with 2 years of warranty with no limit on kms done in my Country so that should be a relief if I happen to face any of the plethora of issues I've been reading here at least till around page 3XX.
So, KTM being KTM I would hope the new lots have rectified such issues like the fork leaking oil, as well as the radiator and engine doing the same, or the chain slapping the swingarm and the FI problems at low RPMs causing stalling and or jerky acceleration.
I would really, really appreciate it if you can confirm those issues along with the ones I don't know of have been rectified in current lots.
Thanks a lot and hails from Colombia.

como esta senor leodj29,
I have had the Duke since Oct 2012 (manufacturing date is also Oct 2012), done a little over a 1000 kms so far.
I haven't encountered any of the problems you have mentioned. May be I haven't driven it long enough.
Anyway my experience with the bike has been apleasant one thus far. The bike is a lot of fun to ride if you ask me.
So there, that is my 2 cents.Last edited by mohan-san; 12-29-2012, 10:30 AM.sigpic

I hope Google translator hasn't mess it up
and further feedback from other Dukers is also welcome.

A major one this time guys. Was speeding on the palm beach road yesterday night at around 11 pm. ON one of the crossings(with no signal mind you) I saw a sedan waiting to cross. I slowed down a bit, but seeing that it's still stationary I twisted the throttle at which point the driver decided to cross anyway. I barely had time to shave enough speed off and hit the rear end of the car head on. I don't recall enough details but I escaped with minor bruises on my left arm. I was only wearing a helmet, which had it's left side near the chin and visor scraped. I'd admit that It might not have all been the fault of the cager but won't mention why. Let the insurance get approved first
The bike is gone. Initially it seemed OK, but later at close inspection , it was found that the trellis frame near the radiator is bent, the radiator assembly has been shifted to the right, the forks are misaligned and bent, the left footpeg assembly is bent inwards, the headlamp is scraped and the console holder over the headlamp is broken completely(not the console itself) The bike had started at first crank and I could limp back home easily.
So a complete new frame would be required which means RTO hassles and since the costs would be substantial(I'll push for a fork replacement too and I hear that the forks are 21 K a) I will claim insurance. So would have to part with the bike for a good 20-25 days may be. I am gutted. It was only a week since the chain replacement I had started to enjoy my ride again.
I'd post about it more laterThe hero always RIDES into the sunset!

Hello Leo, nice to see somebody from another country on this forum !I have done just over 15K km on the Duke and to put it all in a single word, its an awesome bike ! I have had almost all of the issues pepole have reported so far but I dont regret about choosing the Duke one bit. There where instances when things where so annoying, especially when the spare parts where not available or when the chain started creating some noise. But from my experience anybody who wants to buy the Duke should consider the following
- How far is the service center from your house ?
The bike requires regular maintenance and care. The chain needs to be lubed and the chain tension needs to be set right. All issues that creep up should be fixed immediately. And for this to be possible it would be best if your house is less than 30 minuites drive from your home otherwise you are most likely going to postponed things.
-How much will you be able to invest on regular maintenance ?
The cost of service and maintenance here in India is reasonable compared to the other bikes. The tyre has a max life of 20 K km, the sprocket and chain has a max life of 15 K km ,the brake pads have a max life of 10k km, the spark plug has to be changed every 15 K km, the clutch plate has a max life of 30 k km.Will you be able to afford it and will these spare parts be available whenever you walk into the service center ? .In short you need to take the bike to the service center every 5k KM for servicing.
* All the max life I have mentioned above is based entirely on my observation but will vary depending upon how you ride the bike.
No coming to the issues
-Fork oil leak - I have not faced this issue at all.
-Radiator coolant leak is caused only if it filled at or beyond the Maximum level. In a scenario I saw it was due to the clamp that holds the tube connecting the coolant reservoir being loose.
-Engine oil leak from what I know is caused because of a faulty O ring or the magneto gasket.Replace it and it will be ok.It costed me only 50rs to fix it.
-Chain noise - is caused because the chain has not been cleaned and lubed every 500 Km or whenever required ( like after a rain), the chain tension is not right, the chain link is damaged or the chain has just worn out due to use.
-Engine stalling - this was permanently fixed after running through the diagnostic test and flashing the ECU.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for all the detailed info man, I'm happy to see almost everything has now been corrected by KTM and to answer your questions, yes I live fairly close to the SC, about 12 kilometers away and even though the maintenance cost is considerably higher than that of my current bike, I can afford it.Originally posted by Bplus View PostHello Leo, nice to see somebody from another country on this forum !I have done just over 15K km on the Duke and to put it all in a single word, its an awesome bike ! About the availability of spares I'm not worried since KTM has a service quality second only to BMW so I guess that wouldn't be a problem, but if it is, nothing I can't find on ebay, amazon, etc.
Cheers from the other side of the world and keep rolling you guys.

I have experienced the same. After being involved in a small crash it was later discovered that my bikes's (cbr250) chassis had been bent near the headlight. I was shocked to hear about the bent chassis. Each and every part of the bike is removed and again assembled on the new chassisOriginally posted by Doga View PostA major one this time guys....................... and trust me a mechanic can never do the assembly as done in the factory itself. There will be few minor niggles here and there but since your's is a duke I don't think there would be any issues. RTO is the worst, its a headache. I got my registration done from thane. Thank the lord of saving you in such a crash with only minor injuries and hope you gain more knowledge from this experience. Take Care

Yeah I did thank heavens for letting me escape with minor bruises. First ting you learn from this is ATGAT. If I were wearing a jacket and gloves I would have escaped the bruises too.Originally posted by harsh_66328 View PostI have experienced the same. I have promised myself of getting myself good gear asap. I was saving up for the A* jacket glove combo on dsg available for 11K something but enough. Will surely pick up a decent 6K jacket from cramster/Spartan now. May be even DSG. And gloves too.
Besides be very careful with the throttle and not to speed on city roads(the palm beach road is essentially a city road with highway like specs). I shudder at the thought of what would have happened if it were a person in place of the car I hit.
Btw what do you mean by registration? Do I have to obtain a brand new registration for the bike with a new chassis or just getting a new RC card with the new chassis number is enough? The hero always RIDES into the sunset!
