The Duke has a gear sensor/indicator. If you check the video you can see the gear position at top left, just below the rev indicator, of the MFD.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostNeat programming on the LED display. Does the Duke already have the gear sensor in place? Normal bikes just have a neutral wire from the gearbox. How is it in the Duke?
I have done about 10k+ on my duke. This includes a 1500 km Bangalore-Goa-Bangalore trip and a 650km Bangalore-Ooty-Bangalore trip.Originally posted by Hota View PostHi all,
I am looking forward to ownership opinion from guys who have rode the bike more than 10-12k now. before making a decision, I wish if some of the experienced owners will help me out.
Thanks,

The bike is great value for money, no doubt about it. The bike is a non stop entertainer, weather you want to carve corners or slip in between traffic, there is nothing better than duke 200 in India currently.
The bike will lean as far as you are willing to take it, even with the medium quality MRF tyres, scraping your foot pegs are not a problem provided if you are willing to do it and you find a place to do it.
In traffic, this bike is the king, you can change directions easily, and slip through small gaps.
It is not a perfect bike, but for 140,000 Rs You cannot make it any more perfect.
I have had a fork seal failure within first 1000km, and then an oil leak from engine head.
Both were fixed immediately by the SVC. The oil leak was due to bad gasket and not sure why the fork seal was leaking.
The only other notable problem that I have had till now is that water gets inside indicators and the MFD, and non essential spare parts like stickers and grab rails are not available readily.
Also the rear Tyre though adequate for dry weather, is a let down when wet.
So IMHO it is a near perfect bike and the best you can get in India currently. Definitely go for it if you are not a fairing lover, or if you have patience and money wait for the 390.
With ABS and 44HP that one is going to be even better.

Yes the bike has a gear sensor, There is a neutral wire as well. All fuel injected bikes have a gear sensor as far as I know. This is to optimize and activate the correct fuel maps for every gear.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostNeat programming on the LED display. Yeah, FI bikes have them. All bikes equipped with an ECU system should have them too ot be technically sound. Basic stuff to eliminate the most of the adverse effects in just having the mech parts to guide it.Originally posted by spiralbrain View PostYes the bike has a gear sensor, There is a neutral wire as well. I am curious. How is the gear sensor like? Is this a single wire from the ECU and follows some serial protocol? Or is it 6 wires from the ECU/gearbox one each to indicate each gear?Originally posted by spiralbrain View PostYes the bike has a gear sensor, There is a neutral wire as well. I can confirm that the R15/P220 has only a single neutral wire. Engine load is sensed based on MAF only.
We can carry this on via PM if you wish, since it may be OT here.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Well, these days, they do use many integrated sensors. The presence of an ECU is a huge + to the bikes too... Everything is fed, analysed, mapped & concluded in the ECU. Each gear should have a sensor here, also there are many other sensors all around integrated to the ECU. The console parameter & Integration, The ECU, are pretty similar to the Ducati's, of coarse Ducati has way more tech & stuff :P, But it's an awesome Bike with really beautiful tech stuffed in it. I'll try to put more details on this if'd like soon though.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostI am curious. How is the gear sensor like? I guess it would be a single wire transmitting different voltages according to the gear.Originally posted by abhijeet080808 View PostI am curious. How is the gear sensor like? So it would be 0V on neutral, +2V on first gear and so on.
I am just guessing here, not 100% sure as I have not opened up the ecu and I am not about to. (My last phone bit the dust because I was too curious, not going to do the same with the bike)

Hi guys this is in reply to all post regarding that annoying "chaak- chaak" chain sound which comes at certain RPMs, well i feel its coming from the infamous ktm timing chain, please help me by contributing your inputs for the same , I got the chain tightened, swing arm length corrected by the SVC guys but the sound still persists.
Also what i have noticed is a slight oil leak on the left hand side of the engine just above the engine number plate and there is brown colour oil dripping from an inch above the engine number, what a horrible experience.
None of my other 30yr sports bikes even have given me this problem, and the other thing is that i feel the guys at the service station are not qualified enough to take care of advanced problems like this.
The riding experience so far has been pretty disappointing ..... please help

Mileage is 30-33 for me in city and 36-38 on highway. Done many tank full to tank full calculations.Originally posted by Hota View PostThanks...can you help me with long term mileage you are having. what about exhaust note after 10k. any suggestions for tyres.
Other owners have reported better mileage, but this is what I get.
I generally shift gears after 6000 rpm, and try to keep the bike in the power band most of the time and also I drive in mostly crowded roads during peak times.
So I think I am happy with the mileage.
I am looking for a new set of tires have not found any reasonably priced ones.
The stock tires are around 4000Rs, only decent tire in that range is the pirelli SD, but those are not radial.
Recently I got a puncture on the rear tire, my first on the duke, and it took 3 plugs to fix the hole so I am looking for a new set of tires.
If anyone can provide suggestions for tires, it would be helpful. I am looking at max 5000Rs per tire.
