      hey evander
      even i face this issue

sometimes it goes away by itself
and sometimes it still lags in 1st and 2nd gears

i filled the petrol till date only in one single bunk right from starting

the SVC people changed my fuel tank and fuel filter too
      but no use
i even changed the air filter
      still it exists

      so im living with it

i guess its something to do with the 1st lot bikes mapping
but my friend who owns the bike with newer map also faces the same isssue

When KTM changed my ECU map from the old map to the new one the bike became much smoother at low rpms. I'd suggest it to everyone who has the old map and has this issue.
You'll lose 3-4 km in top speed (from 10,500 to 10,000 rpm max only in 5th and 6th gears), but you gain on smoothness in low rpms. It still isn't super smooth but is much better.

However, my bike is noticeably smoother in low rpms with premium fuel comparing to normal one. With normal petrol it gets little jerky, not as much as old map but still...

Try switching to a different or better petrol when you reach reserve. Fill the tank fully with the new petrol so there's much more new petrol in the tank than the remaining old one.

You have to pay.Only thing free in free service is service charge, which is around 600 which you have to pay 4th service on-wards.

              • KTM 200 Duke clanking sound

                Hello Everyone,

First post here so go easy on me.

I have a KTM Duke 200 and I am perplexed with a clanking sound that seems to come from somewhere around the clutch housing or the engine-side chain sprocket.

                Symptoms:
                1. Riding on a very rocky road in 2nd gear around 2000-2500 rpm, I can hear this sound as if some spinning component is slipping
                2. Throttling up the bike on 6th and going past 100 km/h the sounds there again.

                General info:
                1. I have no problem racing the bike to 134 km/h (with protective gear and all traffic rules observed) albeit the sound is present intermittently
                2. The engine temps are all fine
                3. I do get false neutrals between 5th and 6th and mostly between 1st and 2nd but this has reduced after getting the claw shift readjusted and changing my bad habit of lazily changing the gears
                4. Engine is surely not the problem because in neutral, it revs smoothly without any unusual sound.
                5. 3 Months old bike, 4500 Kms and 1st service done.

                What I've done so far:
                1. Assuming that this is chain slapping, I've got the chain tensioned and it did seem to reduce a bit but it's not gone completely and actually does not seem related.

well the above's near about all I can think of as relevant info and I hope it suffices.

Can anyone suggest if this is something others are experiencing too or should I really worry about this? Any Idea what could be the reason behind this sound.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

                -Satyam

I checked with my mech. He says it's the intake valve that needs adjustment in your case. Clearance is 0.08 to 0.12 mm (it is important engine is cold). Ktm guys are required to first check and then adjust clearance. Take back your bike and hit your manual over their heads n tell em to fix. All Ktm tech are trained in this. I will also post a DIY for the same if that is your style.

How often do i get the clearance checked on Duke?? The service guys dont check it at regular service intervals. Asking upon the service manager he says they adjust it when we start hearing sound from the head. Nothing is done before that.

They are just lazy as it requires opening block head. They are suppose to check it with a feeler gauge at every service. Also if u wanna look out for the noise it's a tick tick tick sound comming from the top of the block when the engine runs. Search Ktm vaulve clearance you would get an idea how it's done.
Hit your mech over the head with your service book and say its written here.
