A friend of mine has brought a D200. It has covered 250kms. the speedometer is not showing 2 gear from the very first day while it is engaged only "GEAR" sign is blinking while all the others are showing on speedo. While taking delivery she didnt noticed this problem. can this be rectified with our own or she needs to get the bike checked at SVC???

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Going for rear sprocket , from 43 teeth to 40 of Karizma is equivalent to increasing front sprocket by one tooth...... KTM 200 ,Pulsar, and Karizma have same 520 pitch chain so is interchangeable...ZMA is without "O" ring chain...Pulsar has same chain pitch with "O" ring...so one can go for either the ZMA or the Pulsar one....40 teeth rear is good for having both acceptable acceleration and good Highway cruising...but Duke "Characteristic" pull will be subdued....Originally posted by abhayshanu View PostIF you just ride in City more than 75%, then don't go for the 40T. BUT, if your rides are even 50-50 with City and Highway, then go for the 40T. Also if you go for the 40T, you will NEED the karizma chain, the stock one wont fit.
Karizma rear sprocket and pulsar and the duke's are interchangeable. I have tried all 3. Also the 220 has a rear sprocket of 36T. That would be too much of a small sprocket. The 200 has 38T which would be best with atleast 30 bhp in a duke. The 180 UG4 has 39T and that too is a tad too long, thus the karizma's 40T would be much better. When Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
An update from my side after riding Kiirus remap and stock sprocket. The climate here has been good for last couple of days giving ample oppurtunity to ride my heart out.
Acceleration is blazing fast. 100 appears in a very short time on the speedo, and today at a very short stretch could hit 135. The pull is so strong, I find it a bit difficult to pull the clutch lever when I try to shift at higher rpm.
I sometimes feel scared, everything happens so quick. I am still learning with this bike. Never before have I felt scared riding a bike. I wouldn't touch sprockets on this bike. Just love the experience in city and on highways.
With the remap, while riding in city, it has become possible now to hold on to any gear for a bit longer as against the stock setup where you need to get on to 6th ASAP. Remap has made it smooth without sacrificing the fun factor.
Completely gone bonkers with this bike. Also, spoke to KTM Seawoods and they were more than happy to help me replace existing coolant with Engine Ice. Hope Engine Ice helps in keeping temperatures down, that would be a boon.Last edited by chinmayakar; 08-22-2013, 02:46 PM.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
First off, it feels something like riding a duke indeed, without the exhaust note of course. 0-60 and 0-100 acceleration are much better and the fun in the city is excellent. On the highway, overtaking vehicles in 6th is a bliss.Originally posted by splus View PostHm, I wouldn't know...
Duke also has a speedo error, some 2-3%.
Maybe there's some more factors that we're not aware of in the entire drivetrain that affect the speed?
Rear tire profile is almost identical - Duke is 150/60 and 200NS is 130/70.
BTW, how do you find the difference between your old setup and the new one?
Is the difference in acceleration small or quite noticeable?
I know it's a different bike but it's a similar sprocket change I'm thinking of, and would be interesting to hear your opinion coming from a taller to a shorter sprocket...
I'm not sure whether to put 40T at the back instead of my current 43T. That's 7.5% taller, which should be almost the same difference as in your new and old setups (but the other way around).
But I'm not sure I want to lose the acceleration...
But, I'm not too sure if I undergeared it a bit too much or if it's perfect. I was actually looking for a 41/14 setup in the beginning. Riding on a 6-lane road isn't as fun or relaxed as the old 39/14 setup. After an hour of riding on roads like those, one would wish for a slightly taller gearing. I dunno how the bike would fare considering engine strain and mileage on 600+ or 1000 km days.
I'm more of a tourer but currently my rides will be in the city. My 16k kms old rear sprocket has already come of age and needs a change. I'll use this setup for a few more days and if I lose interest in it, I'll revert back to a new stock set or at the most 40/14.
I'm also planning a 140/70 rear tyre. Hopefully, that will improve the speeds in particular rpms. It's been tried and tested on another bike.
And if you ask me, try the 42/14 ratio. Duke wouldn't be duke with tall gearing. With 40/14, you'll lose quite a bit of acceleration, although highway rides will be blissful and fuel-efficient. But you yourself mentioned you mostly ride in the city. Knowing this, make your pick.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
The last time I checked the karizma ran on a 428 pitch chain. If you can confirm the same.Originally posted by psr View PostGoing for rear sprocket , from 43 teeth to 40 of Karizma is equivalent to increasing front sprocket by one tooth...... You may know better. Just shared what I remember.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
hey guys anyone here has a PUC(pollution certificate) for your duke...??
The SVC guy once said that the duke has got some sort of oxygen sensor in the exhaust..so it doesnt need any PUC..
but for the sake of in case the traffic hawaldars catch us...it might be necessary as they wud take ages to understand what an oxygen sensor is..

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Dukers,
This Saturday, I am having my 2nd free service. As per my Friends suggestion, I am taking my bike to Mekhri Circle Svc center, Bangalore. Any suggestions on what should be keep in mind during this time?
I asked him(Manju, the svc guy) about compression check & check for the status of Clutch plates. He(same person) took a test ride(revved the Hell out of it) and said "the bike is really in good condition". I think he is not aware of what compression check is (neither do I). Explain me what it is, so that I can explain him the same.
Appreciate with any other bullet points to remember.
Thanks in Advance.KTM Lover,
Zak

Good to hear a positive review of the remap, more updates about top end will be a welcome. But make sure you do it only if the road permits.IF YOU RIDE LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW, THERE WON'T BE

Re: KTM 200 Duke
If you are not facing any issues with performance then there is no need for a compression check. It is basically to check whether the compression in the cylinder is fine and the valves are not leaking. Valve leakage results in poor power.Originally posted by Syed Zakir Ahamed View PostDukers,

Iridium plugs have really long life. Don't expect any power bump but your cold starts would be way better, the strain on the battery would be less, throttle response would be better and a marginal increase in fuel economy can be expected.Originally posted by Edge View PostHi dukes, I want to know if anyone tried iridium plugs? I posted the exact part number for the Ngk iridium that is suitable for the duke in mods thread. It is LKAR8AI-9

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Here are a few new pics of my D200. Also, I am in talks with one of the best performance exhaust makers in mumbai, anyone who's in the racing scene must be knowing them. Lets see what pans out. I am personally looking for an increased top end and a very short can. Will update by tomorrow.
