• Re: KTM 200 Duke

Yesterday I had gone for a ride, a fairly long one with nice straight roads so tested the top speed. And I now know what the speed limiter is and how does it work. And I thought of a way to remove it.
The speed limiter is very real for the Duke 200s, this is for the people who think how could this be true. It is.
How it works is, as you reach 136 kmph the ECU then switches the ignition off. Then once you climb down to 135, it switches it on again. Due to this, your speed CAN increase to 137 and then drop down to 133-134. Then as the throttle is fully open, you again gain speed to 136 and it happens again. Due to the ignition kill, people have felt the sudden braking, which is engine braking.
Now, how to remove it? Easy I guess. As the older lot D200s don't have them, just find a friend who has the older model one and get his map flashed onto your ECU, it might take sometime for you to get use to that map but its ok. BUT I suggest this to someone who is looking for speed and doesn't mind a Kiirus remap or RD Piggy Back ECU. It would make more sense in getting the older map and asking Kiirus to change the fueling on that map.

I will be going in for service soon, will talk to the SVC guys maybe I can make some jugaad there for the map change.

Bro wish this is only within the ECU, because people here are telling that there is another chip that needs to be separately tuned??

I found this on fb. Now how in the hell are they able to clock 150 + that too on a stretch of 1.6 km??. That's quite a success there, will getting in touch with these guys be of any help?

Well, if I go for servicing on this weekend, would it be still be covered under 3rd free service, or will I be charged?
You will probably have to take a paid service. you can miss the target kms but not the date. I missed my third service by about 3-4 days and had only 8700 Kms on the odo. I still got a call from the SVC and they were kind enough to give me a free service but I was told that they can allow +/- 200 odd kms but can't adjust beyond 10-15 days tops.

+1 to this. your bike's sound will change as you put more kms on the odo. All sports bikes do that....in fact, all bikes do that to some extent.

Sorry, but this is incorrect.
I had the same speed limit a year ago with the OLD MAP. So the old map won't help you.
And then I got a new KTM map, and then changed it again to Kiirus. Nothing changed in regard to that top speed limiter, which kicks in at 137 kmh, or probably even 136 kmh as you said. I was still accelerating fast, so that's why the speed probably went to 137 kmh.

Yes, as you describe, that speed limiter is nasty. When it cuts it really cuts. Most people will be accelerating very slowly at this speed, but if you happen to accelerate little faster at this speed then it'll throw you back some 5 kmh instantly. Not a pleasant feeling.

Just look at the instructions and photos Chethan posted recently about removing the speed limiter.
You can try to unplug the entire black connector from within the big blue connector, which will disconnect the speed limiter but also the headlight and blinkers; OR remove just a blue-white wire out of that black connector, which will remove only the limiter and will leave the headlight and blinkers working.

I said I'll do my top speed run but I got piled up with work at the moment and have some deadline I have to sort out first.
As soon as I can I'll do it and report how it goes... I won't bother doing a test with the limiter since I already tried that, so I'll just disconnect that blue-white wire, which I then plan leaving it disconnected permanently...

True in general.
But if you're on good terms with a SC and have a good reason to be late then they'll tolerate you being late for even (quite) longer period of time.
Just talk nicely to them and explain everything. They are usually a very good guys.

hello everyone, my friend has duke, recently he went for first paid service!

he was charged 800 rs for paid labour. So he wanted to confirm if he charged correctly.

Is cost of just servicing so high?

Does the bike show the service due information even if it's based on the number of days instead of kms? I have my 2nd service up. Any important things to take care of?

I knew it was 600/- but that was around April-May. Maybe they upped the price.

Aren't the first 3 services free?
With free labour?

I can't remember if I paid anything or not, I didn't even look at the details, was more into what has been done with the bike...

First 3 services are indeed free (except you need to pay for components being replaced like air filter etc. and oter consumables like coolants and change of Engine oil, engine oil flushing charges etc.). But smrutisourav wants to know the charges for non free service.

Ah sorry, my bad, I overlooked the paid word.
In that case I think the price will vary depending on what has been done to the bike.
Some bikes might need more work and some less for the same service.

Chethan Shivakumar buddy I tired to remove the black connector, is it bolted to that blue thing where it sits, because I tried with some decent force to pull it, forget coming out it didn't even move an inch. The duke 125 guy removes it with such an ease, my duke is 2013 model and did ktm went a step ahead by gluing it up :P. Guys I may sound paranoid but we already have torque limiter, speed limiter and rev limiter. What's next glue up the connectors ):
