  • Re: KTM 200 Duke

Hello everyone. New to xbhp and this is my first post.
Recently bought my Duke 200. I had no idea that DLRs were introduced in the 2016 edition. Maybe my research wasn't much and neither the Ktm sales guy mentioned it to me.

My question is will the battery drain too much? It's a silly question I agree but it worries me. Also 2 days after delivery I casually checked the coolant level and to my surprise it was just above the minimum line. How often do you guys think I should check the level?

Also, are there any other things to keep in mind during the run-in period?

    Thank you!

      Congrats on your new acquisition.
Don't worry about the DRL's.. use the bike like any normal bike.
The coolant level from the factory is only slightly above the minimum mark. Again nothing to worry. For your peace of mind just ask them to top it up close to the max. Normally there will be very minimum fluctuation in the coolant level (due to how the cooling system works). Keep an eye on the coolant every other day and if it drops to the min (assuming you have it topped to the max) quickly (say one day you see its at max and then after a couple of days its at min) , then you need get it checked. Two of the causes for low coolant levels are external leaks (which are easier to fix) and a more pain in the as* head gasket leak (which rarely happens on a 200, 390's were notorious for this).
At almost two years and 24k km now, my bike still is on the stock coolant and the level is still between min-max (considering i had it topped to max just after delivery). If you frequently park it under the hot sun, there might be some minor loss over time due to evaporation (because the plastic coolant container is not sealed and it has an over flow tube).

If you want more sound go for a aftermarket exhaust slip-on.

Goto the service centre and you will find that every Duke has a particular tone of exhaust... Upon asking the mechanic... I came to know that...it's bcz of various levels of carbon deposits in different areas in ur bike's engine. Don't really know if it's true. Can someone confirm this.

That was the reason i was asking a couple of days before regarding the engine decarbonizing.

Hey Sid, i didn't get adon p... But got system g for my bike.. I did feel improvement in throttle response.
        Thank u bro.

It is actually true. When bikes are new, you have this sweet, tinny treble sound that's unique to all motorcycles. But as time goes on, carbon builds up, carbon are both good and bad. The only good is it alters the sounds of bikes to a more bassy one, basically some like it and some don't. Usually it's the intake valves that get most carbon deposit and goop due to blow by re-induction.

Injector cleaners prevent further carbon buildup, but don't really clean goop that's already in there, if the goop is lightyears behind.

As long as there is good fuel, any engine can prevent excessive carbon build up, simple as that.

        Cheers!

You can get AdonP at any Indian oil petrol bunk.

I didn't get it here in the pumps i visited so I got System G from a BP petrol bunk. There is a small indicator in the bottle.... Using that u can put 1ml per litre of petrol.

Use it before fueling the bike and then fill petrol so that the additive mixes properly.

One more thing about these additives is, they aren't meant to be overused. Too much additive and too little fuel can cause stuttering/misfiring. All injector cleaner bottles read the ratio to be mixed with the fuel. In the case of System G it's 1 ML per liter, using 2 to 3 ML per liter or on an adjusted basis too is a good way either, personally.

Guys... im having issue with the throttle response of my bike...its having really poor pickup... since i havent ride any others d200 i wasnt aware of this issue till the first service... only when i came to ride some other d200s i noted the pickup n power difference of my bike...literally i felt like dragging me at second n third gears on other d200s....
In my ride, lower gears are like dead....have to shift atleast four gears to overtake other vehicles from red signals! I feel like the power just dissolves to nowhere at the first 3gears... i usually shift gears at 6000rpms...
when i tld svc guys about this.. they just tightened the chain n adjusted accelerator play to nil n all.... just to convince!!
                  Relief for a while!!

Now my bike clocked about 6.2k kms n 6month old..

Throttle response is worse.... again consulted svc and the senior mechanic testdrove it...he told like he too felt some power variation n wanna open the clutch assembly n check it!!

Any body have an idea what would be the issue? ??

Really a pain in ass purchase!

                      1 to 1.10L is a good price.

Power delivery problems can be caused by a lot of different elements, it's really hard to analyze the issue. Considering your bike has only done 6k I highly suspect clutch issues here, but you never know. Secondly check your fuel pump, a failing fuel pump delivers low pressure which in turn reduces the way the bike performs. Secondly check for any any blockages under the seat near air intake like paper or some RC documents, if clogged, they restrict air cause acceleration problems.

Start off with fuel pump, and then check the clutch

                      Cheers!

My clutch lever freeplay has increased to 20mm @ 2000kms. It was around 5mm initially.

Manual says 1-3mm freeplay, is that the min max freeplay or the min freeplay only?

Any cons of having a freeplay of 20mm?

It depends on what you've accustomed to. Some riders, like more freeplay some don't have a freeplay at all. Having freeplay is a good idea, so that we don't keep grabbing the clutch lever all too frequently. Check the freeplay, readjust to what suits and, if not, keep the manufacturer recommended mm as minimum.

A little more freeplay is ok, too little to no freeplay will cause problems such as unnecessary wear and clutch bearing issues. Keep it at 5mm max and it should be fine. The adjustment can be done at the lever end and takes 2 min. Sometimes you may run out of adjustment at lever end and might need to do it at the clutch case end.
