If it's the rear, then you might additionally also ask the mechanic to grease the caliper pin.

Clean the disc rotor/caliper with a pressure wash and some soapy water then remove the pads and rub them down on sandpaper and put them back. {if they are worn out, replace them}Originally posted by naughtynaseer View Post

I had them replaced last month at second free service. Same was the case before the service. The mechanic at the service centre said the break pads were worn out.Originally posted by s1d View PostClean the disc rotor/caliper with a pressure wash and some soapy water then remove the pads and rub them down on sandpaper and put them back. {if they are worn out, replace them}

Re: KTM 200 Duke
It can be as simple as brake pad dust to glazing. First off give it a nice compressed air clean through the calipers and pads, remove the brake pads, use a grit paper to lightly buff the pads, use compressed and clean the caliper and install the pads.Originally posted by naughtynaseer View PostThere is some sound coming from the brakes. I apply brakes progressively and when I almost completely pull the break lever there is some sound from the break pad.
There are "BUTS" though, if you again encounter the same squeaking noise after a couple of weeks or immediately after a few hundred kms thereafter, try changing the pads.
Cheers!

Is the squeaking sound bad?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostThere are "BUTS" though, if you again encounter the same squeaking noise after a couple of weeks or immediately after a few hundred kms thereafter, try changing the pads.
I get that sound (front brake) sometimes when I tilt the bike to rest on side stand or when I move the handle left or right.
Sound doesn't some if I do the above with the brake lever pressed. And sound is not audible when the engine is on.
While riding I can't really hear anything with the helmet on, can't even hear the chain sound.
The pads were cleaned and sanded around 500kms back, the squeaking was happening previously too.
Edit: @s1d had advised to clean the rotor and pads but sound persisted, but I couldn't think of any harm from that sound so ignoring it presently.
I'll set it to around 10mm. Got small palms so don't like the humongous clutch lever travel. :POriginally posted by s1d View Post2
A little more freeplay is ok, too little to no freeplay will cause problems such as unnecessary wear and clutch bearing issues. Keep it at 5mm max and it should be fine.Last edited by philip.gunner; 09-01-2016, 03:30 PM.

replaced at second free service !?! pads don't wear out that early unless:Originally posted by naughtynaseer View PostI had them replaced last month at second free service. Same was the case before the service. The mechanic at the service centre said the break pads were worn out.
1. the mechanic ripped you off - happens all the time.
2. the pads are binding too much to the rotor and hence wearing out faster
3. you ride the bike with the brake slightly pressed (involuntarily resting the foot/hand on brake lever.. the rear is more susceptible to this) , causing faster wear. In such cases the rotor also gets glazed a bit.
i suggest you get the rotor cleaned and so very gently scrubbed (on both sides) with a fine grip sand paper. A bit of squeak now and then is ok, happens a bit more when the pads/rotor is wet.
Is it the front or the rear brakes?

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Squeaking isn't bad, it's just an irritating factor, and everyone has a different threshold, while universally everyone hates squeaking. Some times, the tires themselves make a squeaking sound when parked and the handlebar turned left and right with the center stand, that's normal and that's due to the tire contact with the ground.Originally posted by philip.gunner View PostIs the squeaking sound bad?
For some it's braking feedback, for some it's nightmare: You choose which one you want.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi all. I cleaned the bike well some days ago and i was trying to spot the little leak (coolant) i have.
If you zoom in the center of the pic you will see the coolant between this platic thing (its like a cap) . If i am not mistaken its the thermostat.
It looks like its unscrewed? broken? I can't really tell. Anyone familiar with this part? Can be fixed or replaced under warranty? Also whats the cause for this to fail?

Re: KTM 200 Duke
What I would be interested to know is any problems you've faced with the bike so far, any accidental damage, just overall how the bike has behaved when it was with you, would be great. Just personally would like to know how the bike fared, if you don't mind.Originally posted by Ri$hi View PostI am letting go my Duke 200, gonna really miss her.
Yes, Ivan, that is the coolant near the thermostat. If you observe any leakage from that spot, it's advised to replace either the hoses or the thermostat. Usually thermostats are good, it's the hoses that go bad. Some people really don't bother unless there is a real leak, as it is very minuscule. In fact, we had a another member post the same a couple of pages back.Originally posted by ivan1985 View PostHi all. Re: KTM 200 Duke
I was waiting for the Bajaj CS400 to launch, but it seems that the launch has been delayed by few months. How is Duke 200?
I am looking for inputs for the following points. My daily run would be close to 70 Kms ( Mix of expressway and City). Once a month, will be for long rides on Yamuna Expressway- Maintenance costs?
- Service interval?
- Are the Duke dealers/Service Center in Noida good?
- Mileage?
- Cost of spares?
- Is NS200 a good alternative for Duke 200?
- On Road Price in NCR
- Heating issues?

Is the oil level ok?Originally posted by Ganaraj Bhat View PostGetting dash board error as "Low oil Pressure" after 3-4 km ride(once engine becomes hot). Took bike to service center but sv guy told no issues with the bike and gave back. Did anyone else faced same issue?
If oil level is low, then top it up. Usually the oil consumption is very low to negligible on the d200. If the level is low you need to investigate as to why it went low. Normal oil consumption will be less than 150ml every 7500km and even this drop will not trigger the 'low oil pressure' warning.
It could also be a problem with the oil pressure switch/sensor or with the oil filter.
If the oil level is ok, i suggest you get atleast the oil filter changed (or oil+filter change) and observe. If it still throws that warning, you might need to replace the oil pressure sensor.
The svc saying 'no issues' is definitely not a good thing ((their diagnostic tool will also pick up an error code, i assume they just clear it without fixing the issue) I suggest you take a picture when this warning comes up and shoot an email to bajaj customer care if the svc isn't helping. Neglecting this issue might get you in for expensive engine overhaul.
