Issues? Short answer - NOOriginally posted by mrrafi4 View PostAny of you guys ever done a long trip more than 1000 faced any issues? . I'm planning on a trip to Goa from trivandrum and back [emoji41]
The Duke is as reliable as most other bikes.. and yes things can go wrong and it all depends on how well prepared you are and how you handle it, irrespective of the bike in question.
I've done a couple of 1000km trips over 2 days and a 2400 km trip over 6 days (max km covered in a day being 650km). The only 'issue' I had was a puncture just at the start of a trip and we had the tubeless tire repair kit + foot pump (and was able to get it fixed at a nearby puncture wala.)
Carry spare cables and levers (brake, clutch, throttle), a liter of engine oil, chain spray and the basic tool kit + punture kit (if possible, otherwise inspect the tires closely before leaving for the trip for any existing punctures/embedded objects)
On the highway you will hardly notice the heat and the fan doesn't come on. Only when you slow down and crawl will the fan come on.. and that's not a 'issue' its just the bikes' way of cooling down and is normal.
If you see a warning on the display, stop and proceed based on what the warning is (read owners manual, download workshop manual and keep a copy on your phone)

Re: KTM 200 Duke
I did a 1200+ km ride without any major issues. You can cruise on 90-100 range or red line till 135km on highways. You're gonna love it. Unfortunately one of my friend's bike made a contact with mine and my front foot peg broke even though it a slight touch by the way. Replaced it with the rear one and continued. All the parts are brittle on a Duke. So please carry at least a spare gear lever. You can live without rear brake, but not with the gear shift. Also please check for loose fasteners every where on the bike at all the major stops in the ride. The vibes of duke will loosen the nuts and you don't want your bike's parts fall apart while riding.Originally posted by mrrafi4 View PostAny of you guys ever done a long trip more than 1000 faced any issues? . clumsy rider or problem with bike
hi i bought my duke 200 in october 2014 and have ridden around 2500 kms. in this short span i have fallen four time from my bike and sustained some major injuries(think fractures). all of them have been due to sudden braking and wheels getting locked resulting in skidding. i have changed all the parts damaged whenever i fell. last time the mechanic told me the handle bar connecting to the suspension ( i forgot the correct name) has also been bent and should be changed. i did feel a difference with the left side being more tilted then right. is it possible for something like this to happen or is it because he did not fit the new handle bar correctly. the problem got corrected when the mechanic held the tire between his legs and twisted the handlebar. i am thinking of downgrading should i do that or continue with the duke? if possible give some modification like abs for safe riding pls

i also did a trip of 200 kms and back and had no problems but that was not the problem. the problems i faced were in the city limits skidding whenver i applied brakes. abdulsheik007 i forgot the correct name but the quoted price was 5k for spares+extra for fitting

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi friends,
I bought a Duke 200 during the end of May and just earlier this week gave it for first servicing at around 850kms. There was no issue with the bike as such except for the loose chain and a slight squeaky noise from the front discs when the bike is pushed slowly front or back. Although the chain issue was sorted, I today heard the squeaking noise from the front disc again. Is there something that can be done for this as this is not consistent? I hear it sometimes, sometimes I don't. Also, after the first service, there is a slightly more buzzing kind of a sound coming from where the gear lever is and the gear lever seemed to vibrate a bit, especially when slotted in first. Can the experts tell me what happened here and if this is normal after first service and it will go away after a bit of riding?
Otherwise the bike is beautiful and accelerates like crazy. I have been careful enough to take it only till 7k rpm till now and will not exceed this till I complete 1000 kms, although they removed the 5k rpm shift indicator during the first service.
Kindly let me know about the buzzing sound and the squeaky sound issues.
Cheers,
Saleem

Re: KTM 200 Duke
These are just normal duke chara's squeaking noise is just dust accumulated in the brake pads just don't bother about that. [emoji6]Originally posted by saleem_k View PostHi friends,

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hi All - Apologies if I am asking a redundant question.
I have come across a used duke 200. Its 15 months old and has almost clocked 14000kms.
The seller is asking for Rs. 1,10,000. I plan to do a detailed check on the condition of the bike and its service history. I hope its advisable to go for a used Duke 200 at this price tag, I fear he wont negotiate much.
Needed some advice from you proud owners of the orange hooligan:
I am buying this for daily commute to office (35 KM per day - to and fro). 18 kms highway 17 kms city riding. Are there any significant issues with the machine for this kind of use? Frequent skidding or any other stuff?
Is the bike too high on maintenance: I do not mean high on financial front, like does it need frequent visits to the service centre?
How frequently do we service the machine? Average cost of servicing?
Low-priced question
: what is the fuel consumption of the bike? I am expecting a machine to give me anything more than 27kmpl. I do not do sudden accelerations or braking. No race, no stunts. Gradual increase in speed, highways I keep 85-100 kmph and city depends on traffic.
Please advise!

This is an honest asking price, if the bike is in good condition with the service record clear.

not many issues, you need to learn to brake if you aren't used to using a rear disc setup.

the service interval is 5000km. and the parts are pretty cheap. The oil will cost you the most.. motul 7100 costs rs.1200 for 1.4 litres.
oil filter = 100rs compulsory every service.
air filter = 260rs. (normally recommended to replace every 5000km, but if you could clean it and reuse and replace it every other service.)
spark plug = 200rs (can be replaced every other service , i.e. every 10000km)
paid service charges = approx 650rs.
regular chain lubing can be done at home using ep90 gear oil and diesel to clean the chain. the svc may charge 100rs for this. I get this done for free at the svc because i carry my own lube and they dont charge for labor... it depends on your rapport with the svc.

with this style of riding you will be able to extract 32kmpl. Going beyond 90kmph upto 100kmph consistently will guzzle fuel and return around 29kmpl.

they tend to overtighten the chain, and for a few 100km you will feel the buzz on the footpegs.Originally posted by saleem_k View PostHi friends,

as for the front brakes, if its a constant squealing noise (a little squeak when moving the bike around in parking is ok.. i notice it sometimes too ever since they replaced my disc rotor) that doesn't go away after a couple of km, then i suggest you ask them to remove the brake pads and rub them on sand paper.. and also clean the disc with soap water or brake cleaner spray.
I had to replace the front disc rotor under warranty because the squealing sound got worse..and the bike was just at 2400km on the odo, it has since covered almost 10000km and the noise hasn't been back (just the occasional squeal in the morning or in wet).. and i have the pads rubbed down at every service.
since you are in hyderabad, i suggest you visit the ktm banjara service and ask srikanth or sampath to clean the pads with sand paper. sit on their heads till its done.
