  • Re: Pulsar 200 NS Owners Review and Experiences

    Guys , I bought NS200 , a month back , till now everything is normal , i am happy with bike .

I have a doubt , when does radiator fan starts? i see its not turning on even after 15-16km continuous highway ride at below 75kmph ride.
is it an issue ? or it is normal?

Yep absolutely normal, NS isn't like KTM bikes where you often see or hear the fan turning on... The radiator sometimes works silently that you don't even notice while you ride and also it works only when you ride in bumper to bumper traffic at 2-8kmph for about 25-30mins

Everything is normal and you will not listen the fan going on everytime unlike other bikes

        Pros

        1. In engine, vibrations are there, a lot. But that's its characteristic as its a rev happy engine and i have ran it at 120kmph on Agra Yamuna expressway for 2hrs continuosly. No signs of engine overheating ever.
        2. Best in segment Engine Power
        2. Build quality of 200ns is way better than rtr2004v. I don't know what's wrong with the reviews on youtube, which says rtr200 better than 200ns. Pulsar 200ns is more robust, for example, its tyre hugger is build over a solid metal bracket, which, in my case, sustained impact of two cars in a single accident from the rear. Bike didn't suffered any damage at all.
        3. Very beautiful instrument cluster backlit illumination
        4. Long life - myself covered 95,000 km without piston-ring change, without clutch plate change, just 1 chainset change (@55k km), 1 time CDI change, without magnet change , just 1 radiator fan change. Even the clutch and brake levers didn't loose paint in 4years and 95k kms.
        5. Completed a leh-ladakh trip, ofcourse after a specialized service in leh itself.
        6. Due to plain design, the bike is easy to clean everyday.
        7. On curves, 200NS is very planted due to stiffer suspension

        Cons

        1. Not for DIY people. Service and repairing is very complicated. Road-side mechanics can not repair it. e.g. Air filter and main spark plug are placed below fuel tank, which is absolutly idiotic. You need to unmount the whole fuel tank to access the spark plug or air filter or to set tappet. That's the sole reason i didn't bought Dominar, after selling the 200NS.
        2. CDI is not reliable, in my case. On the highway, when radiator fan went kaput, my bike lost ignition current on the highway due to fault in CDI caused by the fan. It may be a one-off case but still worth mentioning.
        3. High seat height. Not for short riders. I am 5'9"
        4. Absolutely no place to add accessories like extra horn, aux lights, mobile charger, switches. I somehow managed to add all these but that was a very tight fit.
        5. Weak headlight
        6. Gear lever needs to be changed every 10k-15K kms, in my case. This is a design defect which gradually reduces the grip to move the gear shaft and it is a serious issue.
        7. Hard seat cushioning. I had to add a 2inch foam sheet to the rider seat.
        8. Rattles for the first 20k kms and rear brake sqeaky sound after every rear brake-pad change

How's it compared to Apache rtr2004v: Overall, i strongly feel that after selecting rtr2004v over 200NS, i've actually downgraded. The rtr200 is not durable as its flimsy parts suggests. The slipper clutch lever is light by 15%-20%, if compared to 200NS. Yes, rtr200 dual channel ABS comes as a saviour and Soft suspension in rtr200 gives better side quality by about 5%-10%. Fuel economy is also similar.

If you are over 5.6, and intends to ride it in a city (due to avaliability of good mechanics) then choose 200NS otherwise look at other options. Happy Riding.
Yes mate @[emoji106], NS200 is robust & has good built quality - just experienced from a recent accident few days ago.

Just keep the engine idle for few mts in a hot sunny climate preferably in a traffic - you would feel the heat from the radiator when it kicks in!

You OK? And were you being cynical about the build quality?

Infact i was not directly involved in the accident. The fellow who was doing harsh driving in front me on honda activa did hit behind a car rapidly & i was doing 45kmh around 20 feet away behind him. He fell aside & his vehicle was just laid on my way. I did breaking but not harshly to avoid skidding as i knew I had very min stop distance to make. So i just thought of just trying to slow down as much as possible & was ready to brace myself for a fall as i was sure am going to run over his vehicle anyway.

But my bike just went through his vehicle after making a crash with my front tyre & i was still in the shape, no rattles or imbalancing & i just stopped as usual. Guys standing beside the road said they expected i would fall down.

I inspected my bike after the crash & i couldnt even find a crash mark anywhere, even in the tyre.

CYNICAL part - i wouldnt say i was cynical as i chose this bike for its robust look & finish. But knowing something & experiencing something is totally different right; you know what i mean...

              Happy riding!

I bought it in december last year and had the same doubt. It almost never turns on until you rev the sh*t out of the engine. This is a good thing as the radiator switching all the time like the KTMs is very annoying. To check if your radiator is in working condition, go for a 2/3 kms ride in the city where you rev the bike all the time. As in accelerate like you are valentino rossi and come to stop, put on the center stand, bike in neutral and then rev the engine for about 10 to 15 seconds. The radiator will kick in. But it will not make as much sound as the KTMs ( thank god )
This is just to check the radiator fan is working or not. Do not needlessly rev the engine as this may harm the engine as your bike is still new.
                I love my NS

Good to know you are ok. Bike is indeed very robust, i've experienced it at several occasions. Balance is right, braking is good.

Roadside mechanic fixed it with a jugad though, total cost 40rs INR

one question:- shall i go for carb cleaning? Bike has no issues but i have a carb cleaner bottle lying unsed so
i am also thinking to get the air filter cleaned as the Shimla road is so dusty and i was covered in dust by the time i returned. it is royal pain to get the Air filter cleaned though. Showroom people never do it.
                          Hi,
Did you get the clutch wire changed now? Did you do any maintanance like lubrication of the clutch and accelerator wire till the time it broke.
Even i bought a 3M carb cleaner but heard that you shouldnt mess with the carb unless you have to, so have it lying unused too.
Showroom people areent ready to clean the air filter. Even when i asked them to replace it, they said the filter is alright and replacement is not needed.
How do you get it cleaned then?

Hi Kany, I fixed fx1 for front & searched for masseter X and I think it would be a bit lot for me, given that I am more of a commuter than a tourer. Alternatively, I thought of going for zapper Q which is more commonly recommended maybe because of the affordable range. But they are out of stock on the same and are offering me Zapper S1.

Could you let me know whether you have any idea about difference between Q and S1 and whether or not I should go for the same?

                            Thanks in advance.

The massetter isn't exactly non-commuterish. Try the online mrf store. If there is a physical store in your city you can book a slot online and get it installed. Avoid the zappers if you can. Too hard a compound and meant for a long life.
