I dont have much experience with REs, but i have ridden cl350, and my hands were literally numb after riding it at 80kmph for 10 mins. Does T500 behave the same? I am getting mixed comments about this query. I want to know how it behaves between say, 80-120, which is not possible in a test ride.

Nope. I have ridden my Thunderbird 500 on many long rides, each of ~1,000 km without any issue. The details are here.

I always cruise around 90 kmph during my long rides on the highways, occasionally exceeding 100 kmph speed. My Thunderbird 500 is stable and steady without any vibrations in those speeds.

        Hi all!

I just wanted to know the life of the engines 350/500.
I mean, for ex: a 150 cc engines even if maintained well, can run for about 40k KMS and then there may be a need to change the piston rings and bore , valves etc.

Can anyone here let me know how many KMs can a RE engine run? Is there any difference in 350cc and 500cc lifespan? Or, if someone has faced such an issue, can you let me know the approx ODO reading when these works was done(if any)?

Also, is there any problems like engine oil level coming down for every 1000kms?

Please reply, I am planning to buy a TB 500, but I heard that the Engine Oil should be topped up every 2500 kms, so I doubt what could be the problem for this. Please help, should I go to 350 or 500?

Your advise means a lot to me.

        Thank you!

If you want better life and niggle free ride experience then you should go with 350cc version because of following reasons:
          1. Easier to repair.
          2. Easier to find its spares.
          3. 500cc is a bored out version of original 350cc engine.
          4. Better economy and low maintainence
          5. RE fuel injection is still not perfect.

            Hey Guys,
Visited the showroom for final payment of my TB.Saw the limited edition RE.Looks stunning.Pics dont really do justice.Looks really amazing -The strips are not very prominent as in pic and the black exhaust ,brown seats and all is great. Thought I should share the pic.

also i have some questions -Sales rep said they have some fluid for tyres to help prevent punctures quoted it as 1800/-.Looked up the net and saw various prices for it from 300 to up.So please suggest if anyone has done it.

And crash guard quoted as 2200/-.ofcouse showroom prices will be higher but i tried shops in Pune-nana peth. Couldnt find any. Anyone from Pune knows any specific shop let me know or else will have to get it from showroom.

              Hi Friends,

I purchased TB500 last month and have completed 1000 KMs till now.
This is my first RE & I was using a 2004 Pulsar 150 before this.

Wanted to share my 1 month owner ship experience.

              I live in bangalore.
I have been using the bike daily for office commute and the journey to and fro to office is 60 kms.

Owning an RE was a long time wish and I am happy to own one. I initially booked a red classic chrome 500 however later changed to TB500 for the update to date features

and most importantly the riding position which was very different from Pulsar which I have driving from many years. After all I was changing bike after many years and

wanted something radically different. Though I agree that Classic has a retro charm which I miss. Ideally i would like to own both

Coming to the likes & dislikes. Please feel free to comment on the same. I would be happy to be contradicted.

              Likes:

              1) The looks. its gorgeous . Its a head turner especially if you look it from the front.

              2) The thump (I have a stock exhaust) & the buzz that engine passes on to the whole bike.

              3) The build quality - I love the solid build quality. The chrome, the black matt finish engine, the RE name at multiple places including the foot pegs.
I found paint work also very good. The metallic paint is very shiny.

              4) The seating position. Very comfortable. Makes you feel you are king of the road and can travel miles & miles without any pain

              5) Bike is at complete ease at 80-90 km/hr speed (Haven't got a chance to do above it)

              6) The acceleration at 4th & 5th gear is very powerful. You can feel the thrust.

              7) The 3rd gear doesnt give you much acceleration however the bike roars when u push it in 3rd gear. I use the Roar for traffic to make way before I unleash 4th & 5th
gear and leave the traffic behind

              8) Headlights - especially the high beam is awesome

              9) Sturdy & stable - I have driven it in heavy bangalore rains along with high winds and its rock solid.

              Bits that I don't like:

              1) Frequent downshifts to 1st or 2nd gear to keep the bike in power band. I find it puzzling as before purchase I had read that the 500 CC engine has a usable low end
torque which means less shifting gears.

              2) Ride quality is very bumpy. I initially thought it was to do with tire pressure which I found to be high from the prescribed (22/32). However the ride quality did
not change even after fixing that. I even got the rear shockers adjusted for more spring play (loose) in the first service however no difference.

              3) Brakes - even though we rear & front have disk brakes however they dont inspire confidence that the bike will stop when u want it to. I guess its also because of the
              weight of bike.

So that is it. Please give your suggestions if I can do anything to improve braking/ride quality.

Attaching a few pics of the bike

                • Engine tends to stop in low rpm/low gear(1st & 2nd)

Hello everyone. Need a little help from the learned ones. I have a RE Thunderbird 2014. Recently from the past few weeks I am noticing a problem. When I start the bike with kick start(usually 4/5 kicks required) the rpm is so feeble that bike stops. Then again after when I ride in 2nd or 1st gear(usually after negotiating with bumpers/in a uphill slope) sometimes the throttle tends to die down so I need to rev a lot for preventing the bike from stopping. Sometimes it stops. Why is this happening? Since it never happened before.

                  Thanks

                  • RE Thunderbird 500 - Guidance needed on few issues

                    Hi all,

Being a new bee, please excuse me if these questions are already asked or discussed. Please guide me to those discussion by replying with links.

I got the delivery of my Marin Blue Thunderbird 500 and in 19days have rode ~400km never crossing 2000rpm. Have observed following issues, would like to know if
                    1. They are really an issue
                    2. Can I fix them myself
                    3. Shall I contact the mechanic/RE workshop as first service is due in a week's time

                    Issues:
                    1. Right hand mirror is vibrating and moving (Rotating thus not providing me proper view)
                    2. There is some noise coming out of front tyre/brake if brake is applied (irrespective of amount of application)
                    3. Front of bike really becomes heave after application of brake when speed reduces substantially (may be below 15kmph) and pulls towards left
                    4. Light in low beam is not sufficient, is there any upgrade without voiding warranty.
                    5. Last weekend peak mileage was displayed 50kmpl (It started climbing after resetting from 0 to 50 and then settled at 48) during my trip to Titwala (total 120km) and avg trip mileage was 48kmpl, it is on expected line if I travel at 2000rpm or I need to get my display checked

                    Best regards,

                    RR

Thanks J.Ravi . You are an inspiration for many of us and your motorcycle diaries in another site was very helpful during my decision making.

I will tighten the screws tomorrow. And I did notice after reading your reply that (50) it is KPH and not KML. Can you also help with other queries.

How is the head light beam throw adjusted on the Thunderbird.?
Is there a screw that we need to adjust like most other bikes.??

                                Hi all,

I have a RE TBTS 500 (2013 Dec 27 purchased). I want to sell it now, what is the right price i can quote.
I am seeing ads in OLX for similar bikes but priced way higher, so im confused.
It would be great to see some comments in this regard, what is the right price for this bike.

                                5800 kms done.
Single handed use, Red rooster performance exhaust installed,
Everything else is stock, tyres are good and no dents or any kind of damage.

                                Thanks in advance
