You know what, you're right. Torque doesn't mean, the engine is stress free when revving hard. If you've driven an R15 and P220 you will know both how relaxed the R15s engine is, as fate has it it is a high revvy engine. But coming to 220, it's torque behemoth from the word go. Yes it can even smoke an R15 at top speed, but the engine needs to be revved hard as you know torquey machines when revved, hit the rev limiter soon, plus if you intend to push it even more, you have the tell tale vibrations etc. That was the main reason I bought a 220. But just for that handling prowess etc, nothing, I mean nothing out there compares to R15 in my personal opinion.

It will be a 150cc masterpiece from Yamaha.

P.S. An R15 will be soon be parked in my garage, in three months time

There are numerous bikes out there, just ask your local reseller for the sprocket teeth, he will give you an idea as to what, so you get an idea as to what might be required, it's pretty simple.

And also, regarding sprockets, even though I can suggest a few sprockets, by visiting a local spare parts shop and asking him for the sprocket sizes, he'll let you know what sizes and what is avlbl, so you can get an even more clear idea as to what to fit and where. I always do that.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Unicorn is already coming with 15/42 setup which is fine, and that is the max u can have. If your front sprocket is really 14t, then go to your ASC and ask for only front sprocket and that will be 15t. You can also get from any spare shop. And yes if u are currently running 14t then switching to 15t will reduce pickup a bit, but will increase top end by about 5 kph, and hence mileage too. This is standard gearing and there will be no problem, go for it!

      • Hi guys..Has anyone tried undergearing their p220 dtsi???

        Comment

        • Why would you undegear a 220!!! You already have enough juice at low end, why would you undergear one. I'd never recommend undergearing a 220 personally.

Apart from overgearing, undergearing no gearing. Why can't people just love the bikes for what they are. The manufacturers themselves have set the perfect ratio, and that ratio isn't just based on gears.

Moreover, you're gonna get just a slight bump in performance say 5 or 6 KMPH in top end or slightly improved low end.

If someone is really in the field of drag or racing or motorcross, this might be useful, but for normal street riding, and highway cruising, the stock setup is more than enough to do its job.

I'd suggest one not to screw up the sprocket setup unless one really knows what he/she's doing.

This is just a friendly advice to every folks out here.

          Cheers!

          • hehe i wouldnt dream of changing the gearing dude...just wanted to know the experiences of the people using a different sprocket......as u said the 220 has good low end too...just for information's sake what would the gain be in acceleration if it is undergeared??..

Go back a few pages, there is something called Gearing Commander which I've pasted the link with, enter your dream setup, and you can get all the details you want.

Appreciate the mood, but why not experiment on something inferior, in my opinion, that'd be even more kick ass, compared to an already powerful engine. That way you get to know what it really takes.

Sorry I checked it yesterday, Unicorn is having 15teeth front sprocket, I searched high and low but could not find a 16 teeth sprocket, got FZ's but was a bit bigger, and then switched it to a 14teeth front sprocket of that of old CBZ classic, the pick up was superb but the bike started to get hesitant after 80-90kmph and by the time it comes near 80, it started vibrating too much, so just removed it and placed the old 15 teeth sprocket back in its place. . . Can you please refer to a place or person from wherein I can get a 15 teeth front sprocket for Unicorn or a lesser teeth rear sprocket. . . N one more problem I am experiencing, it's not still two months since I changed a new sprocket set for Unicorn but the back sprocket has came to the end of the line, (it has come to the maximum) what should I do for this. . ? I can't keep spending for new chain sprockets every two months. . . Please help. . .

You can't get only rear sprocket because chain and rear sprocket wear in their own sequence, if u install new sprocket with old chain it will not last nor new chain with old sprocket. Only changing fornt sprocket works.
You can't do anything with your current sprocket. Better u buy new DIAMOND chain kit for your unicorn. I will last a lot. Also Diamond CSB kit is also available cost a bit more but it last even more than normal Diamond and required less frequent adjustment because of hard bushes.
You should wash chain at every 5k kms to double its life.
One owner Sibun have used his Diamond kit for 93000 kms and still going. Here is his DIY to clean http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/do-yours...orn-chain.html

So you should go for new Diamond kit for a complete piece of mind.
Here is Diamond product catalog http://www.tidcindia.in/pdf/PocketCatalogueNEW.pdf

If u install 16t in front the gear will become too taller, don't go for this because 1 increase teeth in front = 3 less teeth in rear.

Though Paul answered your queries apt. Consider this, whenever you change either one of the three, you're gonna reduce the life of the one you've just replaced, which wouldn't even last to the least level one can expect.

If you happen to change your sprocket set, upgrade the set uniformly to its entirety. If you love to keep your back sprocket stock and intend to change the front cog and chain, you must change your rear sprocket too, irrespective of the KMS its clocked.

                          Three reasons

                          1. It provides whiplash
                          2. Provides uniform wearing
                          3. The bike feels more responsive, no sluggish performance.

                          Cheers!

Go for the one you like. Never used them personally, but have heard very good reviews about them, one of my friend using them personally on his bike. Why don't you try Diamond for now and check out how it unfolds. Though users are always gaga about it, if you can share your views here after using them that'd be real great, so that it can help fellow bikers too.

I've always wanted to get Diamond, but just -- lazy. Perhaps next time, it definitely will be a Diamond
