@B7ACKTHORN : Any reason why the sprockets teeth are shaped differently on either sides? One side has a slope & other is flat. But chain links are exactly same both sides.
The concept is pretty simple. Take a nail and start rubbing against tarmac, it glazes at one side, repeat it on other side and the same process repeats until the thing becomes glazed and blunt, same concept with chain sprocket.

It can be done, but it depends on the sprocket wear itself and how. Usually most sprockets nowadays hold pretty well and can handle stress real well and taken care of can last a long time.

Now depending on the care given to a given sprocket, the wear can be either significant or insignificant but some wear differently than others for lots of reasons no care, too tight, too loose etc etc and the wear pattern themselves differ.

    Cheers!

Hi!! I am new to xbhp.....i am ktm duke 200. i was looking for ways to overgear my bike. The sprocket from pulsar 180 UG4 does look like a viable option. Do you have any further information as to the feasibility of carrying out the rear sprocket change. If so pls let me know as it will give me valuable input on doing the modification. Also, do I have to adjust the chain and which chain should i use? duke 200 or pulsar 180UG4

There is this thing called Gearing Commander. Google it, and you have an online calculator, which will give you the top speed, low end etc depending on the sprocket you use.

You can indeed use the P180s sprocket to over gear it, just make sure the fitment holes are of the same.

Regarding chain change, you can use the current duke's chain itself, but make sure the number of links of that of Duke to that of the P180s has some space to adjust, nor too tight nor too loose. But Duke's stock chain should do the trick.

        Cheers!

thanks for the info....but I am unable to understand what do you mean by fitment holes to be the same? As far as I know duke 200 and P180 UG4 both have four point mountings for the rear sprockets and are therefore identical...Hence, P180UG4 rear sprocket should be a direct fit on the duke 200....about the chain...I guess will have to adjust the Ktm duke 200 chain..maybe shorten it by a few links....what do you say?

Yes that's the four fitment holes, if it's a direct fit, then why not go ahead, and do post your reviews here. But your low end will take a hit, but that's a given.

hi!! but can anybody confirm whether its a direct fit or not?? That is what I am confused about? Also would like to know the same for karizma 40T rear sprocket. I am planning to install one of them but not sure which will be a direct fit with minimal modification to the chain.

Yes if it's a four hole fitment then definitely yes, it is direct fit. And that is what the Duke and P180 sprocket change a few pages back was mentioned.

                Cheers!

Rolon is cheap and lasts well, Diamond is a tad costlier and lasts a little longer, no big difference whatsoever.

On the stock chain and rear sprocket, it will NOT fit. Confirmed.
That is because stock p220's chain pitch is 5/8th of an inch, while older 180's (which came with 15T) have 4/8th of an inch.

If you have to fit in the 15 teeth, you can, but then you'll also have to replace the rear sprocket and the chain. All of them.
And going by my rough calculations, if you downgrade to .428 pitch (4/8th of an inch) then you'll need a chain of atleast 130-132 links, (assuming the rear sprocket to be 43T from Pulsar 180 UG3).

I suppose you want to overgear your P220 for better top end. As of right now, yes, downgrading to .428 pitch is the only way in India, to overgear a P220, with stock parts. Even then, there's no proven way to do it. Mostly Trial and Error.

Roy, I hereby confirm that the 40 teeth rear sprocket of Karizma will fit your bike, the KTM Duke 200.
Pulsar 180 UG4's rear sprocket should also fit, but you might not enjoy the feel of a 39 teeth sprocket in terms of acceleration. I think 40T is just right.

No need for cutting the chain. You can just get your chain adjusted by your mechanic.

                            Super spot on.

And guys, Karizma's sprocket fits mos of the bikes, undergear, overgear it just does the job. And I don't think there is cutting required, as rightly stated by Samarth, unless the tightened chain velocity is so loose that it can't get any better.

You can go even smaller front sprocket for the Duke, if you want to overgear. But it's always a DIY.
