      Just an FYI.
Bought air filter and oil filter for the 12k kms service. Oil filter price has gone up by around ₹130 and now costs ₹634. While air filter prices also has increased and now is ₹469.
Ride, ride and ride.. But always do it responsibly..

Just bought a Ninja 300 from KTM Faridkot. Have ridden it for 100km since yesterday. Loving the smoothness of the Engine. Purchased it without a test drive as no test ride bike here, after I did not like the KTM 390s power delivery and gruffness. Was anxious that it may not be the right decision but this thread helped and the first time I rode the machine I was all smiles.

          Hi Chinmay!

Have you depicted the differences between both anywhere? I am interested in knowing as to how & where the differences are between both.

          Any links to share?

          Thanks

Hi Sheel, I am not sure I quite understand your question. Do you mean difference between R3 and Ninja 300? I did not ride my friends R3 enough to form an opinion as it is still in running in period.

From what ever time I got on R3, I found it to be a competent package. The engine is smooth, vibe free as you would expect from a Japanese twin. The bike is narrow when you sit on it, and has easy sports tourer riding position with controls falling easy.

NInja 300 feels wider and has big bike feel to it. The overall quality on the Ninja felt couple of notches above the R3 and had a more premium feel to it.

Having said that, R3 too has good overall quality.

The handling is great and its easy to lean her in a corner without any fuss. The gearbox is slick and smooth shifting. However, I found a slight hesitation when you start from rest. I felt it required more clutch slippage than I would on my Ninja. But while on the move, its pretty fun.

As the bike is still under running in I didnt push the bike, hence the grip from MRF was adequate. True potential of the MRFs will appear may be when we complete the running in and try to push her. My friend though feels that rear lacks traction.

I hope this answers your question. Sorry for not including RC390, as me and my friend were never really interested in it and never really bothered how it performed viz-a-viz R3 or Ninja 300.

This is about my purchase experience with KTM Faridkot. .. Long post split in two parts
I had to travel for 80km to get there from my town.
The showroom had a trio of KTMs and one Ninja 300 on display. I was interested in the KTM 390s and had called up before going there so a test ride vehicle was arranged for me. I took the ride and it did not suit my riding style at all.. I prefer to shift early in traffic and only on empty stretches of road i like to rev. The test route planned was a couple of km of bumper to bumper traffic. Found that i had to be in 2nd gear all the time.
Told them of my dislike so they suggested the ktm 200. Unfortunately the 390 was a bit of a stretch for me at 5ft 4in and the 200 was just too tall.
Dropped the plan of getting a bike almost but they suggested to just check the Ninja 300 for fit.

The Ninja looked scary with a very high looking pillion seat. Asked my better half if she was fine with it.. After an affirmative reply sat on the bike and it seemed to be made for my small height. I took it off the side stand with very little effort and that handlebar that looked so far off was in perfect reach.
Now the issue... The vehicle was for sale so no test drives on it. They assured me that it was never given out for rides. The month of manufacture was May 2015 according to their papers. They assured me that even though it was an even higher revving engine than the ktm it was friendly lower down and flexible. The salesman was very honest and told me what i already knew... That the ninja 300 is cheaper than ktms in us and the ktms were faster, lighter and better handlers. He promised me a good deal if i confirmed.
The next day he had a personal problem and was off for a couple of days.
Thought a real lot and decided on a bike that fit me and as it was well within my budget felt that i would go ahead.
The next day i confirmed and added the dealership as a beneficiary of NEFT. Told him before hand but could reach the showroom only at 5pm.

The battery was installed and the odo showed 2km. He fired up the bike after putting in 3lts of petrol. All the plastic coverings were removed and the engine was fired up. It was a wonderful bassy sound. My wife made the NEFT transfer and instantly i was the proud owner of what is the biggest bike for me so far. I did not ask for it but the salesman had arranged for a zero dep insurance and also a temporary registration valid for a month so that i could drive the bike back to Bathinda.
Had read all through the the thread and knew about the 4k rev limit before 1st service but riding it for the first time i found it very difficult to stick to. It was 8.00pm and I had 80 odd km to ride with my wife on a national highway so safety and suitable speed so that I would not get knocked from behind were priorities.
Was riding a bike after 5 years but felt very comfortable. The brakes were wonderful but the exhaust note was a bit underwhelming. (my first bike was a Shogun... That 2 stroke high revving bike had a soundtrack to die for). Below 4000rpm it is pretty much as comfortable as the discover 125 i owned 5yrs back but just a few rpm more and the bike surges forward. The top speed achieved on my first ride... Also my test ride of the Ninja... Was 80kmph and i rode it nonstop for 80km with no discomfort other than teary eyes.... My helmet visor would get fogged as soon as i would pull it down so I had to ride with it up. So i found on the very first day that this was a comfortable tourer though on first appearance it looked otherwise. For shortys i feel this is by far the most comfortable and nonintimidating of bikes.

I have been following this thread for a very long time. (as a non xbhp-ian).

Congratulations buying the N300. I'm sure you are having a great time with her. I always wanted to ask the below questions out of curiosity.

                          1. What is the service interval ?
                          2. How much does it cost for each service ?

WOW. Thanks for the super fast reply and for the breakdown.

Thats much cheaper compared to the TNT 300. For the TNT 300, the service interval is 4k or 4 months which ever comes early. And the price is between 4-4.5k

Contrary to what ppl think Ninja 300 isnt that heavy on pocket to maintain. Simply because of below points:
                                1. Service interval of 6000 kms.
                                2. Oil change and filter replacement interval at 12000 kms
                                3. A normal service includes just washing of bike, replacement of oil and oil filter, checking battery health.
                                4. Longevity of parts
                                5. Chain sprockets easily last more than 25000 kms.
                                6. No parts fail prematurely
                                7. No niggles hence you dont have to spend your time and money running to and fro to service centers.
                                8. I visited the service center 3 months back for the last oil change
                                9. Its a quality japanese product and that is visible in your day to day experience with the bike.

Thing to remember when you buy a bike upwards of a lac is to get 0 dep insurance. With 0 dep cost of fixing the bike in case of an accident is hardly 1000 bucks. Yes, certain spares take time, but that is when you crash the bike.
For regular service spares, its never been an issue.

Having said that I dont expect non-owners to change their opinion as it is good in making an already exclusive bike more exclusive.
