Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
The bike is still on side stand and Car jack will be used to lift the other side of the swing arm. We can use car jack to lift the bike completely on by itself as there is no place under the bike to do so.Originally posted by Legend Racer View Post@truelypulsarian
need more details of rolon lube.make? where to get? price?
@riazmomin
Thanks. So first the bike is in side stand, then you get a car jack to bottom and raise it up. hence the bike should be resting on jack fully. isnt? cleaning done by high pressure water.
I think it wont suffice and looking at cheaper options like kerosene and diesel. how about using grease? i think grease got more life than anything else, but it gets dirty faster too.
I trying to keep the cost / km as low as possible.
Pressure water has been doing the job well for me. Kerosene can be used when it gets very greasy.
Touch wood, my 390 has been niggle free except the slight leakage near oil filter area which was solved by replacing the cap. No problem with engine, no heating issues, no starting issues or what so ever. They way the roads are in hyderabad, i wud have expected lots of punctures but none so far and alloys have stayed strong even after hitting the pot holes at considerable speeds.Originally posted by Legend Racer View Postbeing frank over here. the niggles, however, small it may or may not be, a slight fear is already in me.
Duke 390... im not using it vastly, and im pressurised to clock kms for service too. i dont have time to attend to niggles if anything happens.

I never buy a vehicle from first batch, especially after launching. But this time i had to, as a ride was needed.
TO THOSE WHO ARE GONNA BUY OR HAVE BOOKED. PLEASE WAIT FOR SOME MORE TIME TILL THE CURRENT BIKES ARE CERTIFIED OKAY BY USERS...
I hope it stays like that

While taking the decision of buying solely rests on your satisfaction of the product, I have to say, for every 1 duke that has a problem reported, there are another 10 out there running just fine. From most of the bikes that have been reported to have problems, my observation is, again solely my observation is some of them have been ridden hard during run-in period which has led to a host of issues. Some of the others genuinely have had a problem. Also, more importantly, there are a lot of folks who lost their common sense and took delivery of bikes that had either been used as a test ride mule or for some mysterious reason had several kilometers on it already.
But 2 Months of ownership so far and learning how to take care of this beauty, I have had zilch mechanical complaints. Only issue I had was really the mudflap falling off due to the screws loosening. I just got a new one fit yesterday. I plan on removing the nut-bolt and riveting it for a permenant fit
And to finally add that not every car/bike manufactured is perfect. Every car/bike company has a lot of their products with several different problems. So to think that problems are only related to KTM would be a bit naive as almost every other manufacturer on the face of the earth does not have a 100% fault tolerant output.
Again, this is just my understanding of things, and it is best to take understanding from a wide range of people before coming to any conclusions.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
problem has never been with ktm..for me its down to the irresponsible folk at sales/asc.its why ktm does quality check at Austria.these are niggles/issues overlooked by the dealers.i have been to asc every week i have had the bike.loose nuts, loose fairing, loose connection of horn, headlight level not corrected, accelerator and clutch play, low coolant level and finally engine oil-coolant mixing!the mixing was visible the first time they took an entire day to check overheating issue.they didn't know apparently.even now, third time they don't know where the leakage is.Last edited by senotrius; 12-08-2013, 04:57 PM.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

New Service Center! Where exactly ?Originally posted by The Duke View PostWakewadi... I got mine on 9th Oct... no issues with the delivery
They have also opened a service center exclusively for KTM and Kawasaki down the same road...
Got my first service done and the mechs seem to know what they were doing.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
well, i just meant... you see, mostly the first batch vehicles carry niggles and its mostly experimental for the company. i have seen this in many first batch vehicles. here i didnt intend to point to KTM in any manner. its just in general aspect.
we had figo from first batch. then my friend had 1 from second batch.
now we own 1 from third batch. i could see stark differences in these 3 cars.
so i meant, those who cant manage these first batch troubles, better to wait for some more time and get a better bike later... @Cyrus_the_virusI'm a responsible rider. It doesn't matter what you ride, but what matters is how you ride.

Thanks budOriginally posted by Riken View Post@Team Torque I noticed the melt when it had a slight contact with the cover, it melted only the edge of the cover, so i did not claim for a replacement part. they did fix in the new fastners. Make sure to use loctite if possible. Few weeks back I had a serious issue with my cam head exhaust valve getting bent because of a loose lock nut which had fallen out when I was riding to rameswaram during diwali. Got the bike repaired in about 15 days but some other issue came up with the fuel injector and cam head assembly. Had lodged an complaint to the ktm india team. They were pretty responsive and they had changed the whole Cam head assembly to make sure that the problem does not repeat again.
Gaining my faith back with KTM. Right now only issue is of the High Lubrication Temp popping up in heavy bumper to bumper traffic. The coolant level is just above the minimum level, didn't get time to go the service centre. Will check up if it is because of my riding style.
Hope you get your cover replaced soon.
. Just want to know more on your prob mate. Where did you take your bike delivery?. How many Kms had you clocked on odo when you encountered cam prob???. Loose fastners on parts visible to us is OK to some extent but loose bolt on cam?!?!
. Was there any significant change in your ride's vocal chords?. I don't want to bug you more now
.
Bhp is how fast you hit a wall, Torque is how much of that wall you can take with you.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Got my Baby yesterday:
Did some PDI - the below list really helped. Thanks to viper3683 again
Got the keys from my wife (its actually her gift to me )
Happy ... Glee...
Now the biker couple starts...
Have completed around 100 kms till now and everything looks fine except the chain hitting the swingarm (I guess since I am getting the khat-khat sound) while hitting uneven surfaces.Originally posted by viper3683 View PostCheck the following for PDI :-
Body :-
1. Check the swing arm for any cracks and scratches
2. Check the paint job, make sure there are no chipped off areas
3. Make sure the Mud Flap is fitted
4. Check for presence of Knuckle Protectors (They generally remove them will transporting the bike)
5. Make sure Fork Boots are present
6. Check the Tyre Rims for any dents, cracks or chipped off paint
7. Make sure the chain is properly lubed and is not slack (Buy a Motul Chain Lube for future use)
Consumables :-
1. Coolant level - Should be between min and max
2. Check Engine Oil level (Turn on the engine for 2 minutes, switch off and then check)
3. Check Brake Fluid level for both brakes (The level for front one is difficult to see as they normally fill it up completely)
Other Checks:-
1. Check whether the lamps, indicators and other electrical are working
2. Odometer reading should be less than 5 or 10 Kms
3. Check whether the radiator fan connector is connected
4. Make sure that they give you the Toolkit and tuck it under the pillion seat with 2 rubber bands
5. Check the handlerbar alignment
Once you are out of the showroom:-
Straight away head to the nearest petrol pump.
Do a tank full.
Check the tyre pressure (The default one is too high), Correct tyre pressure is indicated on the swing arm (Front - 25 and Rear - 32 (With Pillion))
I maintain it as Front - 29 and Rear - 32.
Till yesterday the chain was tight during PDI and16 kms after that till I reached home but this started today.I have bought the OKS and 3M chain lube but didn't apply it yet.
Does the KTM chain really become loose so soon or is it the first time-effect. Owners and experts please help...

nelson_sanjoy: Congrats
Please let me know how much did you pay for 3M chain lube and where did you buy it from?
I am wondering what is the 'reserve' capacity of this bike? This morning on my way to office I got 'Low Fuel Level' message. Rode for ~5kms and filled in at Shell. I asked the pump attendant to fill for Rs.700 but by the time she filled 8.16L fuel spilled out
Thought I wiped it gently with the cotton rag, hope it doesn't damage the paint/clear coat.
Total tank capacity is 11L and it takes about 8L after hitting reserve, so I am thinking 2.5-3L reserve capacity? Holding the bike upright could have helped to fill some more

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
After the bike hits reserve, max 8 liters of fuel goes in. Taking the rated capacity of 10.5 liter into account, reserve seems to be 2.5 liters at least. This is also borne out by the DTE which reads 60 kms from the time the bike hits reserve. Taking a mean fuel efficiency of 25 kmpl, 60 kms translates into 2.4 liter.
Based on the above, I have decided that I can safely use 2 liters of fuel after the bike hits reserve. That translates into a safety margin of around 50 kms.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

I think this is going to be the biggest issue with the bike. The fuel tank is just too small even for city ridingOriginally posted by NitinGirish View PostForget highways, its going to be a pain refueling the bike in cities too!
.
I found a way to reduce the thud when up shifting gears. (I read is someplace on the net but don't remember exactly where).
The trick is to pre-load the gear before upshifting. Essentially apply a bit of up force to the gear lever without actually shifting till you get some resistance, next clutch and the gear shift.
The clunky thud does not go away completely but it is much more smoother now.KTM Duke 390 | RE Interceptor 650
