Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Considering the climate we have in most parts of India, the fact that this short stroke engine reaches high temperatures easily, if and only if I don't have the manufacturer recommended grade of engine oil available, then I'd rather go for 20W50.Originally posted by peaesus View Post

None modded the horn (1) or paddock (4)...Originally posted by nelson_sanjoy View PostNeeded inputs on these from Duke 200/390 owners :
1) Which after market horn are you using if any ? The stock horn is just too meek . How about the Pulsar horn which has the right balance but how to create a mechanism to unmount it every time I take it to the SVC.
2) Did anyone try to cover the whole rear tire ala R15 by using the stock mudguard. If yes - how?
3) Did anyone put additiponal mounts to the Fazer windscreen in Dukes
4) Any cost-effective paddock stands available in Bangalore...
Additional fasteners should fix the vibration .BTW did you try going at high speeds 140kmph+, does it flutter?Originally posted by suhasn46 View Post2. You can add one more stock mudguard and bolt it to the existing one.
3. IMO no additional mounts are necessary. I have noticed that the Fazer Windscreen on my bike vibrates negligibly on idle and ONLY when you go through potholes. It does not flutter at high speeds.
Very well explained ...Originally posted by Team Torque View PostJFYI- The first number before the "w" stands for the minimum operation temperature. Normally where temperatures can sometimes drop to below 10 degrees and therefore they have different grades for different seasons. For example: 10w40 lubricant is more suitable at 10 degree Celsius and above temperatures. The 2nd number is more important. it stands for the viscosity of the lubricant, meaning how thick it is. Again giving you an instance: A 10w20 Engine oil is thin and runny and very smooth but engine will overheat very easily, lubricant breaks down faster losing its vital additives and your Engine will wear soon. Coming to your query, since Ktm recommends 10W50, STICK TO IT.

will try me best to find 10W50.. if not found anywhere then will go for 20W50...

How did the Duke behave (ride quality, handling, compusure on pot-holes,etc) in the Sampaje-Puttur stretch and the glorious Shiradi? What gear did you tackle the downhill ghat section in and did you notice any heating issues?Originally posted by THE46FAN View PostHi guys..went for a trip to B'lore from Mangalore and back. Went through coorg, mysore and while comin back took the hassan sakleshpur road. As we all know riding on good roads is an absolute bliss on this bike. Touched 165km/h twice on the way back. Bangalore Hassan of 150kms can be covered in one and half hours. It just decimates 2 lane highways. Even after the wind blast i was not too tired, and the best part is the seat. I find it much more comfortable than the P220 seat. My Butt was in good condition after i reached. Always wanted to see how comfortably this bike keeps up with four wheelers and it was superb. The four wheelers cant keep up with this one.
Fuel tank is not a concern, after a thrilling ride stopping for fuel for 5 minutes is no big deal. Over all beautiful.
I takes courage to do these routes on a new bike :-)A lone amateur built the ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic...

I got around 25km...no windscreen mods, i personally feel it doesnt require one, just a matter of gettin used to wind blast.Originally posted by senotrius View Postwhat's the best mileage you could get? also any windscreen mods?

On the way back i took Shiradi ghats and the road conditions for pathetic for 15 to 20kms...but rest of the roads are awesome..Originally posted by suhasn46 View PostA couple of quick OT questions buddy.
1. Which route did you take from Mangalore to Bangalore? Charmadi or Shiradi?
2. How are the road conditions?
I'm riding soon in the same direction so your inputs would help. Thanks!

On the way out i was very patient in sampaje puttur strech and rode in the first 3 gears. Some of the stretch were so bad i was goin on 1st gear, worried abt the tyres. Bad roads are just not meant for this bike, but it can manage. I hope you know the road after we pass sampaje, never in my life i did such lean angles.Originally posted by NitinGirish View PostHow did the Duke behave (ride quality, handling, compusure on pot-holes,etc) in the Sampaje-Puttur stretch and the glorious Shiradi? when i reached madikeri my head was buzzing as if i had taken drugs.
madikeri to mysore, again beautiful roads, then mysore to b'lore, and i saw many harleys, bullets, R-15s, NS200s and CBR 250's with full riding gear...India is truely gettin into the biking culture.
BTW i was in 2nd and 3rd most of the time in down hill ghat section...no heating issues at all, except when u r in 1st gear in really bad potholes...

i gave my bike to a friend for a small test ride. As he is used to bullets, the duke handle does not turn as much as bulls, which caused him perception issues, and and the bike while taking a turn, slowly leaned and fell on the Right side. the knuckle guard cracked and broke. Please let me know if anyone is not using his knuckle guard, and is willing to sell it.
mine fell on the left hand side from stand still. bought the new ones for 700 for pair.
m in pune.. you can borrow the right hand one from me for free (condition attached - returnable in case mine right one brakes

Hi guys,
Is anyone using the original windscreen for your bike? Is it of any use for the wind blast or is it just for the looks ?Young riders pick a destination and go, Old riders pick a direction and go !

I am using it till now but would change it quite soon. I am in dire need of a driller.Originally posted by shelton_jh View PostHi guys,

The white ones which comes stock with our bikes are local made hence cheap whereas the orange ones are a KTM power-part .They have a better finish and since its imported entails tax and so costs around 6-7k. So the choice is yours - i have seen some D200s with orange ones.Originally posted by Xzibit Roll View PostIs the handgaurd this cheap? I thought it costed a lot more.

Sounds great. I'll get a white one and get black vinyl put on it to match my black bike.Originally posted by nelson_sanjoy View Post

Ahh I got carried away when you said "Original". Anyways I am still stock but the ones who have got the one in your link say its useless and its for 2.5k (FYI).Originally posted by shelton_jh View PostI'm talking about this: KTM Windshield - Windshields - Travel - PowerParts

I have bought a Fazer windscreen and am planning to fit it this weekend.
The white one gets scratched easily and gives a good platform for stickering. The orange ones have a better build too.Originally posted by Xzibit Roll View PostSounds great. I'll get a white one and get black vinyl put on it to match my black bike.
