DukeDey,what about the brake bite loss issue? I'm facing similar loss in braking power now.brakes have completed 1.3k (mostly by the service staff owing to engine replacement issue).have got my new engine replacement since a week btw.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

Try using sand/emery paper to remove anti rust coating but don't grind too much...just enough to remove coating or try applying a little brake and ride for some distanceOriginally posted by deathb4disco View PostNeed help guys, I foolishly sprayed anti rust on the disc and the pads. Now brakes won't work and disc is heating up...u think it will work once I run it in....I am going on a loooong ride tomorrow. Workshop closed today shud I change the pads and leave?
Cleaned with mr muscle, now it's a little better....suggestions please.

Would be going to the svc this Saturday, they did not have the required shims in stock last Sat. They said they'll figure out what can be done when I go.Originally posted by senotrius View PostDukeDey,what about the brake bite loss issue? Most probably I would push them for replacing the master cylinder if the brake fluid level is alright because the free play cannot be so much without either the pads wearing out or less fluid.

exactly the same feeling i had.i asked whether it was free play but it was not the issue.brake fluid level is max too.i have to use all fingers to elicit a good braking(not like in panic mode). the brake lever gets comparatively close to the accelerator/handlebar for this.Originally posted by DukeDey View PostWould be going to the svc this Saturday, they did not have the required shims in stock last Sat. two finger technique not possible now.basically it does not feel like a disc brake setup.please keep me posted about the svc solution.fed up of fighting with these people.
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
engine oil plus coolant mixing occurred which was missed during asc pdi.fluorescent green mixture could be seen through the engine oil view port.engine overheats and stops in the middle of commute.resulting in use of the bike for 1.2k kms by the svc trying to fix the obvious damaging the engine further.they did not figure out the issue till the third time visit.lots of arguing and fighting later a new engine was transplanted.plus shabby workmanship by the svc has resulted in scratches on the trellis and elsewhere which normally would not be present with regular riding and maintenance.also saw this morning damage to a single(i think) radiator fin.always take before and after pics when handing over the bike to the svc!Originally posted by N-o-v-i-c-e View PostEngine replacement. I am sorry to hear that. But what was the reason for it, I glanced this thread and saw your post.
Could you tell me what happened or at least point out to the post when this all started?
cheers...Last edited by senotrius; 01-16-2014, 11:12 AM.๔ยкє ҭђгєє ภเภєҭұ เภ ๓ұ שєเภร

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Just spray lots of water and use the brakes as it is for around 100 kms. The spray should burn off from the heat generated. If not, replace the pads.Originally posted by deathb4disco View PostNeed help guys, I foolishly sprayed anti rust on the disc and the pads. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi All,
There was one unfortunate accident happened with me while I was riding my bike. I just started from a signal, and within 200 meters, there was one girl riding scooter came in wrong way. I was trailing an auto and trying to overtake, and suddenly this girl was right in front of me. Accident was inevitable, even when I applied brakes. There was not enough distance and she was coming towards me too. So bike slowed down considerably, but still crashed.
Now the unfortunate thing happened. All my front rim spokes cracked. I was thrown off my bike and sustained minor bruises and scratches. Was wearing helmet and it did saved face injury. I am also writing to KTM and Rajiv Bajaj about this issue too. I was not expecting this quality on such high priced bike. Its a gamble they have played probably by using low cost material to get the pricing right, but gamble not paying for customers. I read about the rim getting cracks from deep pot holes. I hope KTM comes up with better quality alloy wheels.
Girl on scooter, me and my pilion all are doing fine now. As this was not a high speed crash, we are fortunate to have survived it with minor injuries. Attaching some pictures of bike and wheel for your reference on the quality.

I had crashed a cb twister at 50+kmph and the alloys bent (but not to this extent )
Even though I am not an expert I think that the broken alloys did absorb all the impact and saved you ( not sure about it as cars have crumple zones which are designed to deform and take the impact ).
If it cracks over running over a speed breaker then its surely a defect .
Update further information and costs involved .
Looking at the picture suggest only spokes are broken and if you find its manufacturing defect please sue them.

OMG
....now I will be scared to ride it at high speed, what would have happend if you would have jumped over a pothole at high speed and spoke break like this.
I have had several accident on kb125, fiero, pulsar 180 and karizma on speed upward of 70 kmph also (on karizma once I hit scorpio from behind at about 40kmph after breaking) but there was no damage to alloy rim whatsoever.
Hope this was one off case and not same quality in all the bike.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I remember similar posts while R15/FZ16 were launched. Same pics with all spokes broken. Consensus back then was that, the alloy wheel acts as a crumple zone and breaks off. This prevents severe injuries to the rider/bike frame. One incident was a rider dashing into the divider at 60kmph. The results were similar.
If this case is similar to the above, we can conclude that the alloy wheel is working as designed. If the impact was at low speed, say below 30kmph, it is indeed a concern.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Now I will be hell scared to take my bike at high speeds. If this happens in normal city traffic God knows what will happen if it hits a bad pothole/hump at high speeds.
Please take up this matter seriously with Bajaj/KTM, we as XBhp are with you...
Did anyone hear of similar issue in Duke 200 . Are the alloys any different apart from the paint?
Incidents like these just iterate the dangers we encounter everyday while riding any fast bike.
Hope you recuperate quickly...
