Two shims were worn in my bikes case and when they opened the head and took the measurements they realised that only one shim was available with them. The second correct size was not in stock.Originally posted by srivaatsav View Post
Dukedey...you get this noise only when the engine heats up ? Have you replaced the shims ? If so do you hear any noise now?
After the replacement of one faulty shim the sound has considerably reduced.
Tomorrow I'll be going to get the second shim changed too.
No extra money is required for any temporary registration anywhere in india. Not even a single penny. If they ask for it contact the manufacturer.Originally posted by shootingstar View PostCongrats for your new bike. But I think number which showroom guys write on bike is not actually temporary registration(for temp. reg. you have to pay separatly) these numbers are linked with showroom and you will find multiple bike with same number in a showroom. So be careful while riding, police might give you trobule for driving without registration.
Enjoy your ride.

Even if there is no cost assciated with temp. registration why would showroom first do temp. reg. and then permanent reg. if person has to get his vehicle registered in same rto.Originally posted by DukeDey View PostTwo shims were worn in my bikes case and when they opened the head and took the measurements they realised that only one shim was available with them. There is definetly a cost for temp. registration. Number which you see in picture of tusharsmoily is not temporary number for sure. Next time you go to showroom please make sure to notice numbers on different bike (specially ktm) most of the bike will have same number. If you getr caught with this number then you will be treated as driving without registration which attracts some serious penalty.
@tusharsmoily : Did you get any temp. registration paper ? I'm sure you would not have got as its not temp. reg.

Okay. I took the bike to the showroom today morning. The showroom manager said that it's normal. If everyone is experiencing this then I can have a sigh of relief.Originally posted by srivaatsav View PostI think most of us are facing this . I am not sure either its normal or not . Even my friends duke 390 has same noise . Would appreciate if others could chip in with their view .
I'm actually using a mix method if run-in. I occasionally take it to triple digits by rolling on from low speeds and high gears. No WOT.Originally posted by viper3683 View PostCongrats !!!
Dont worry about those tik's, they are there in all of them...
Please dont do a motoman run in...
The tyres would achieve full grip once the initial shiny rubber is scraped off, after 250 kms the tires would be at their best, use all the tyre until 250 kms so that the shiny rubber is scraped off..
Dont take the FE showed by the console seriously... it is calculated based on interval of several hundred metres.. Reserve to Reserve will give you the correct FE figure...
Enjoy the beast and respect the power
And yes, she really deserves to be respected.
I didn't pay any extra money for temporary registration. Didn't get caught by a cop, yet.Originally posted by shootingstar View PostCongrats for your new bike. Yes. The sound is present only between idling rpm and 2500rpm. After that, it disappears.Originally posted by AmitRavi07 View PostIs the sound still present when the bike is in standstill with engine running?

my bike's rev limiter kicks in at 9500rpm, tried to rev in every gear & its not crossing 9.5k mark, as in image while startup rpm indicator lines are faint after 9.5k. Top speed reached on my bike is 155km/h. As mentioned on internet rev limiter is at 10500rpm & top speed achieved 172km/h. i have completed my first servicing & 1600kms done on bike. svc mechanic told me that its locked at 9.5k & you cant unlock it in svc
. can anybody confirm rev limiter.(i am not mentioning shift indicator flasher. i have set both rpm 1 & 2 at 10500 but bike not crossing 9.5k mark)

Showrooms try to take ill informed customers for a ride by charging extra for temp registration. As per rto rules till the time permanent registration is done a temp registration has to be issued by the authority. Its all covered in one time registration charges.Originally posted by shootingstar View PostEven if there is no cost assciated with temp. registration why would showroom first do temp. reg. and then permanent reg. if person has to get his vehicle registered in same rto.

Is the customer mad to pay twice for temp and then permanent? Everyone would then try to skip temporary regn.
I have done my homework and always paid an amount(I calculate the registration charges based on govt policy) which did not include any extra charges for my bikes and cars, ever. You want to pay extra, you are most welcome.
But kindly don't make others pay extra. Such misleading post confuse people and they end up believing what the dealer says.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
From the past few days, I was experiencing the problem of my bike getting switched-off when engaging clutch. Visited Kirti Nagar svc today, but, the engineers there were not able to diagnose the problem. They have kept the bike overnight to do a thorough check of the bike electronics. Hoping that its a very minor issue with ecu.
@k1ptatik you should get your bike checked at svc. This is not common and an ecu remap should fix the problem.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
In Andhra Pradesh there is separate fee for temporary and permanent registration. They do not cross RS 300 each. While getting permanent registration done we need to show the temporary registration receipt.Originally posted by DukeDey View PostShowrooms try to take ill informed customers for a ride by charging extra for temp registration. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
I used to have the same issue of reaching max speed of 155 kmph and thought that I got a faulty/ test bike. I have my rev limiter set at 10500 but never reached it while going for the top speed run. From my experience speeds till 155 kmph, it's pretty easy to reach but for speeds above that you have to hold the throttle for very long time and need to make sure that the roads are in your favour. According to what I have observed is based on the slope of the road at full throttle your speed increases and decreases.Originally posted by k1ptatik View Post

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
Customer don't have to pay twice as normally only permanent registration is done and not temp. reg., that is why vehicle is delivered only when showrrom apply for permanent reg. and get a receipt with vehicle number after 2-3 days after applying for reg. This receipt has permanent reg. number and which act as reg. till you receive a reg. card. Till now I have done temp. reg. only when I bought my car from home town and got it registered from another rto in anoter state. Also cost for temp. reg. is not much. Also cost of permanent reg. is not much its the one time tax which you pay is more, reg. cost is only around Rs. 60 for bike.Originally posted by DukeDey View PostShowrooms try to take ill informed customers for a ride by charging extra for temp registration. Re: KTM Duke 390 - Owners Reviews and Experiences
its 2100 kms now. gear shifts set at 7000 and 7500. oil level can be seen when bike is warm, its till half. dont know if its low. some of my observations...
straps or brackets that are supposed to hold the wires intact are gone. i tried to put them back but it has lost elasticity.
the strap on the handle bar is also gone. left 1 is there, but right side gone.
have you seen the petrol overflow pipe? last time when i filled up, petrol was overflown, but it didnt come on to the tank top, as it went down the tank through the pipe to ground.
see the pic, just where the duke sticker starts and corner of radiator.
i cleaned chain as told before using diesel. lubed with gear oil 90 grade ( Rs 230/ lt). my review about this oil, use it if you can lube it everyday. yes, i mean it. after a day's ride of 70 kms, chain was dry and i had to lube it again. but this oil is very easy to clean up from rims. used a bit of armour al heavy duty shampoo and oil and dirt was gone from rims...
tried to remove the chain cover but the one in pic wont come out. the space is inadequate for it to come out. the ring spanner needs to be used from down, but after unscrewing it wont come out as it hits the alloy straight. how many noted this? or is it only my bike's misalignment?
bike is tough to clean up. i was totally surprised when i applied some sealant and wax. the white cloth was slightly orange after applying on rims. it does not take intelligence to say, paint quality is below average. after a year im thinking of getting it a good paint job, something like car's metallic paint.
see the mess in this area below front sprocket. i think only thing that will do the job is some hard wheel cleaners / tar remover which will clean after spraying followed by water .
i was not happy with thud sounds from gear shifts. so thought of working on it. someone had already done it by adjusting clutch play and chain. adjusting chain took some time for me as the adjustment bar needs to be same on either sides. checked it after some wheel rotations, and yes, it was between 5-7mm as recommended.
next, adjusted clutch play using screw near clutch lever. 3-5mm. but thud was there, though reduced. my doubt began with gear lever.
read manual and tried to adjust it. its stated both ends need to be same, i think they mean both ends should have same threads visible. after 3-4 trials the best i got is 6 threads and 5 threads. measured from lock nut to lock nut and it was between their standards. see pic. thud sounds is almost gone but a new problem has come up, i understood, i had messed it up.
the 2nd gear wont slot in. i had to try very hard or come to 1st and then again bang it upwards. after 2nd all was smooth, but in traffic its horrible. i tried correcting it using same method but still nothing.
anyone got the correct setting? please check the number of threads visible on both ends after lock nut and post me.
